I want to buy a new console, but I can't decide between the new 250GB Xbox 360 or the PS3 Slim. They're both great consoles, but here's my problem:

The TV that I use to play on is a 20" Toshiba SDTV. I do realize that it's not the best TV to use and I plan to buy a larger, flat-screen in thr future. In the meantime, considering the situation, should I get an Xbox 360, a PS3 or it doesn't make a difference?

*Before you answer, you should also take into consideration that I enjoy Xbox's massive and reliable multiplayer and its large variety of games. For the PS3, I find that I get more features in the console and more for my money...

Stefpcxp

Halo Reach is gonna be huge. I'd get a 360 if I were you.

the point is that the companies are investing less money on exclusive high-budget games, resulting in a handful of big exclusives each year. but they are investing on "new ways to play", read - they're looking to expand into the casual market.

Now, gamers who are not interested in the peripherals and in either of the few exclusive titles don't really need a console, unless they prefer to game on it for whatever reason.

Pc games ( not only exclusives ) don't benefit from all the advertisement that happen on the consoles, but it's still strong, although people keep saying it's a dying platform. Steam is growing, that's gotta count for something.

obviously there's a huge future for consoles.

LegatoSkyheart
yes, but peripherals will be the new thing, not pure games' exclusives anymore.

Nintendo is going back to their roots which I really like. I was quite disappointed with them after the release of the Wii, although there were a few good games like LoZ: TP and Mario Galaxy it was quite clear that their main audience was casual gamers. But now they're bringing back old and loved franchises, which is great.

Falconthefirst
finally I'd say!

I agree, but not only the children. that game is a miserable imitation of a movie, while I think that games should just stay games. shaking the fruit juice with your joypad.. :S unexpressive people, the characters looked all retarded. but of course you CAN'T transform reality into a videogame, it's just NOT possible, it's data, not some sort of life that lives in a bluray disc.

I don't know you guys, but I have like zero interest in wannabe movies, I'd rather enjoy myself a real movie then. I don't understand this hysterical pursue to turn games into something that wants to replicate the reality, life, which is characterized by infinitesimal events and casualties that will never ever be imitated in a videogame, as it's simply impossible. No wonder that we see lots of flaws in games like Heavy Rain then, because we automatically compare reality with that part of the game that is trying to show us something "realistic", hence we see all the defects.

When people tell me that games should become like movies, I say NO, I can be an old-fashioned gamer, but I don't want games to lose their main role of videogames.

apropos of photorealism.. there's an interesting article that every gamer should read

I think the following is a good point:

"Imagine you were to look at a painting of a person. You know it's not real, hence there are various errors that might subconsciously bother you, even though you wouldn't have noticed them if those same apparent errors were edited into a photo. You might not be able to pinpoint what's wrong with it, but instinctively your mind noticed something wasn't right. Video game worlds are by their very nature artificial. There's all sorts of factors that we would normally not be bothered by that will simply feel wrong when seen in a video game. A very clean hallway will look unfinished and a perfectly straight edge will look like it lacks detail."

if that's real, it's the best visuals I have ever seen on a console. O_O

[QUOTE="Ravensmash"]Make a second disd, or allow the extra disc to be installed onto peoples hard drives and play from the 1st - it's not a difficult situation. It's hardly that big of an issue - look at the recent example of Red Dead Redemption, both versions virtually identical.

did you read the article? 360's without a HDD make it worse for a developer, as they also need to take into account those who have the arcade models.

[QUOTE="Metroid_Other_M"]

I never saw dvd9's to be a problem, until I read this article

I agree 100% with the rockstar guy when he "complains" about the xbox 360 arcades which are not equipped with a HDD. It's stupid imo, they should only sell 360's with a harddisk, but I think it's too late, since they should have done it already at the beginning of this gen. there are many people who only own an arcade and of course you can't force them to buy a hdd to play a certain game.

I don't think bluray is essential, but I think sony exclusives took advantage of it thanks to the much higher storage than a dvd9.

This sentence is the key imo "If we're filling up the disc right now, where are we going? It's not like our games are going to get any smaller. I think that issue's on the table with a bunch of games right now. I'm sure they'll come through with an intelligent solution."

What kind of "intelligent solution" do you think Microsoft you come through with? Flash drives??

ArcticWolf77

Multiple discs?

clearly they're excluding that solution... I think the only solutions can be flash drives or digital delivery, I can't see any other solutions.. although I'd exclude the digital deliver one somehow.

[QUOTE="pitty8982"][QUOTE="Easyle"][QUOTE="Metroid_Other_M"] that's what "shocks" me indeed. I'd rename this games as The Curious Case of Alan Wake :S I think I'm gonna trust the gamers this time, Metacritic is only confusing me and I don't know whether I should buy the game or not anymore.

How? It's 82 of 100, whats so confusing about that?

confusing is the awesomenly disparity of opinions on the different reviews. you pass from 60 to 100. a bit like Heavy Rain, but in that case I could understand that some reviewers aren't really into adventure games.

this and all those people who find this game fantastic!
