I think it mostly has to do with Nintendo getting their handhelds out the door as quickly as possible to ensure that they are relevant when they hit the market (especially with competition on the way). And obviously Nintendo sees the advantage in this, as they continue to work on the device and release new editions as soon as they're able.

You're forgetting this one, too:

1. Original Gameboy
2. Gameboy Pocket (smaller size, better screen)
3. Gameboy Lite (Japan only - backlit Gameboy Pocket)
4. Gameboy Color

Honestly, I see the Gameboy vs. Game Gear debate the exact same way I see the DS vs. PSP.

Just because a system is more technologically impressive than the competition does not make it a better system. The Game Gear had ZERO identifying games - all it had were portsof existing Genesis and Master System titles. It was literally being marketed as a "handheld console," whereas the Gameboy was treated as a standalone system. There were just as many (if not more) original titles for the Gameboy as there were multiplats.

Thinking that the original Gameboy was overrated is overrated.

Considering the fact that before the Gameboy came out, we had what? Those hokey little Tiger LCD games? Sega, Atari, and NEC all tried to outperform the Gameboy, and from a graphical standpoint they succeeded. But the Gameboy outlasted all of them because it was ultimately a better machine. It had more memorable games AND it ran for days off four AA batteries.

Yeah, it's too easy to find The Phantom Hourglass at GameStop/Game Crazy - don't bother with Ebay . . . especially those damn Hong Kong sellers.

I'd really like it if they released a Metroid DS game alongside with The Other M, like how they released Metroid Prime and Fusion together.

And when all else fails, just wander around doing sidequest and killing random monsters. That'll level you up and give you new items/weapons

Is it "kiddy?" Yeah, kinda-sorta. But not in an embarrassing, patronizing sort of way. I'm 30 and I enjoyed the hell out of it.
