Interesting. From "there won't be any more Gears on PC because you're all pirates, so go **** yourselves" to "man, I love Steam and PC, you guys are the best!"

Maybe an apology for suggesting anyone who knows how to upgrade their video card is probably also a pirate? No?

@silv3rst0rm: Maybe you're thinking of the 5990? The 5970 was absolutely a beast of a card, so much so that bitcoin miners were paying more than they were new when they came out to get used ones just because of the obscene value for compute speed. I had 2 of the crossfire'd and they were fantastic.

@noah364: That's a bit of a red herring though. I could just as easily point to men being generally regarded as better with spatial reasoning as a point for why they are inherently more interested in not just playing, but creating games (development).

I do think culture plays a part, but I think the effects of such are far more pronounced coming from the parents during the developmental years than anything after that.

I'd be more inclined to question the types of popular games for why women are less interested.

I hope they do it in a manner similar to the mechanic from ME3. He was gay, you knew he was from dialog cues (and it fleshed out the character), but otherwise it was irrelevant... Which, unless you're focusing on the sexuality for a specific purpose, it should be in any case.

I just don't want it to be one of those cases where you spend every moment they appear in the movie thinking, "Okay, we get it, let's move along to other dimensions of the character now."

I watched that "highlight" reel, and I have to say... Man, what a sleeper. I generally go for crude / tasteless humor, so that's what I was hoping for. This was like watching paint dry.

There must be a prior highlight that is just amazing, because otherwise I really couldn't tell you why anyone would want this guy casting anything. Of course, by the same token, I couldn't find what Gaben actually cared about, unless being lame was the issue.

I'll pick this up at some point, though probably not quite at the $60 price point. The setting looks fun to me.

I have to laugh at some of the cut corners, like when he sneaks up on a person who is laying down sleeping, and they suddenly appear in the standing position so they can play the animation of them getting knocked over the head. I really hope that level of laziness doesn't permeate the whole experience.

@noah364: See, I would say there is as at least as much pretending that there are a bunch of barriers, with no real acknowledgement that there are ingrained sex differences that have nothing to do with culture as much as they do chemistry.

My son naturally turned virtually everything into a sword while he was still in diapers, without having been exposed to anything outside of Blues Clues. My daughter would reach for princess dresses before she could even speak. While we can't ignore existing workplace and hiring issues, it is damned foolish to ignore that men and women are fundamentally different.

The problem with using ballet as a parallel in the way you did is that ballet starts young, typically younger than cultural gender stereotypes have set in or even matter to children.

Yeah, women! Stop having dreams of your own, and get into computer science. We have a quota to fill!

Ballet has a female : male ratio of something like 20:1 (that's probably conservative, particularly in the US). I'd say, neat, I guess there aren't as many guys interested in ballet. These people would say we obviously need better education and awareness programs, an overhaul of recruitment and hiring practices, sensitivity and diversity training, and so on. Obviously, it's unlikely there are any other much simpler explanations for why they just aren't interested; it's really because they just didn't know they wanted to do it.

In a way, all of the career babysitting is mildly offensive and sexist toward women itself.

Well, the bear pretty much sold that one for me. I'm am still undecided if I would blow $60 on it, or wait for a sale.

As an aside, I hope they pick up that framerate for the console players, because that looked choppy as all hell. I do most of my playing on a 980ti via a Steam Link nowadays though, so maybe that's what makes it stand out so much.

Interesting... Ghost crawler's big contribution to Riot after leaving Blizzard is to have them carbon copy the Battle.net system.

Now that I think about it, this explains a lot about World of Warcraft in recent years.
