Articulate first post, but the points made are still ridiculous Why is graphical fidelity the only are in which progression should be focused? We are getting to the stage where the graphical differences between each generation are becoming less and less pronounced (see Forza 1 +2 for proof). Why can’t a company attempt to make progression in other areas instead? And why must all consoles be the same? Isn’t there room for an alternative? The Wii is succeeding BECAUSE it’s different. It’s not just a last gen console with high def graphics, it’s a last gen console with a little more power and an entirely new way to play games. Fair enough developers are still finding their way around the hardware but eventually I expect amazing and fully realised video game experiences from some of the better developers out there. And casual gamers will not kill our hobby, they will save it. Originally it was just kids and families that played games. Sony brought in older guys (in their late teens early twenties) and now Nintendo is bringing in everyone else. The way for our hobby to become more accepted by the mainstream is not through 100 hour epics with obtuse controls that take four hours to learn. It is through accessible and mass market friendly fare like wii sports, Peggle etc. When the DS has sold over 150 million units and you see old people and girls playing it, that’s when gaming will have become accepted by the mainstream and taken more seriously. Not when some 30 year old manchild is creaming himself over 1080p graphics in his parents basement. Foaming Panda and insular insecure gamers like him are the stuck in the past, and they’re welcome to it. The future is far more interesting from where I’m looking
