It's simple.

- If you don't plan on overclocking go Ivy

- If you want to overclock go Sandy

Masenkoe

i would also add if you dont know then ask yourself how long do you want this mobo and cpu to last? if its over 2 years then I would say sandy so you can OC cuz if you dont want to now, the idea will creep into ur head by then. these cpus are super powerful so reasonably you will want it to last that long. ive had a i7 930 for over 2 years and I cant forsee replacing it in the near future its still a great chip even if newer ones are faster now.

[QUOTE="Kjranu"]I can near max Witcher 2 with my evga 570. I probably could max it out if I had a 590 or a 680. ydnarrewop

yeah i think a 670 or 680 could cuz I can with my single 7970 OCed to CCC max settings

With uber sampling? Edit: yep you just might be right about the 680gtx. There's a vid on YouTube.

yup I can max 1080p with ubersampling on my 7970

[QUOTE="Postmortem123"]

I'm fairly sure 5870 crossfire should run Witcher 2 really well on High settings. I ran it fine on High at launch on a single 5870.

MonsieurX

Witcher 2 doesn't like crossfire.

yeah is there a crossfire profile for it? cuz I run ubersampling fine with 1 card I think that 2 5870's should be perfectly playable.

A GTX 580 will fill the bill if your power supply can take it. Your present 285 wants 550W, and the 580 wants 600W, and the 580 will need an 8-pin power connector in addition to the 6-pin. The two cards are the same size. Your CPU and GPU are about at the same level right now. The GTX 580 will probably be held back sometimes by the CPU, but that won't hurt anything---you'll still see a performance increase. Grin and bear it until you can ditch the Dell.Blistrax

^This, obviousley u wanna get the best price per performance u can but the bottleneck wont be significant enough to not be worth it. IDK about prices but 580 is a good card and ur psu can pretty much support any single gpu card.

Is there thermal paste applied? Only thing I can reall think of, or maybe there isn't good contact with the CPU (i.e. one of the clips isn't in right).

I would install an aftermarket cooler and see if that helps, I have the 2600K and it idles around 28 degrees celsius and when I game it usually only goes into the mid 40's to low 50's, and I've overclocked mine to 4.3 ghz.

whitey_rolls

yeah if its a new build i would say the paste isnt on there properly

MSE, and its free.Silicel1

+1 also avast might offer good protection but i remember horrible UI and popups for adds that constantly ask you to pay.

I also use ad aware to do scans periodically to remove internet garbage it finds stuff nothing else will but i turn off all the passive stuff MSE is great for that

Why is this exactly? Is it just a coding issue? You'd think developers would want to utilize as much as possible. BUT performance wise per core. Would u say that the quad 2700k would be faster then the hexa core? The ghz differance does not seem significant. Simply put... what would YOU pick if u were looking for performance? ( future proofing is kinda nice too.. )

Motokid6

If i was making i would not waste on hex core they are really bad on price per performance just get a i72600k and a really nice cooling system to overclock down the road and spend ur money on a gtx 690 or 2 7970's that would be massive performance
