Welcome to my Second Revolution Ramblings Blog, where I ramble about anything concerning the Nintendo Revolution. In this "issue" I'll ramble about Revolution Wi-fi, its launch date, and its price point, not to mention throw out a new Revolution game idea!
First, we have the Revo's wireless connection, formerly know as the Nintendo wi-fi Connection (WFC).How will the WFC affect us gamers you might ask? Hopefully in many new ways, this is the first time Nintendo has explored online, and it might not be perfect right off so give them time. The WFC will surely be used for online gaming, and to download retro games. Yet, what if nintendo took a leaf out of Xbox 360's book (As Microsoft and Sony have done to Nintendo countless times) and followed suit with a marketplace full of downloadable content (Some free, others not). For me it would greatly enhance replay value and just give me more to do. But what about those without a home wi-fi connection? I believe kiosks should be set up where users can just bring their memory unit (Card? Stick?) and plug it in to download extra content and games. Maybe even a chain of "Revo Centers", small stores where you can purchase games, download material, and more! (Too much to ask for?)
There have been many rumors surfacing lately about a November, 2006 launch date for the Revolution. While possible, it definately isn't probably for two main reasons. First the PS3 is awaiting a Spring, 2006 launch and if they fall through with that then that already puts Microsoft and Sony's feet in the door. With them sucking up all the gamers who do not want to wait any longer (Many Nintendo fans may bew converted) only us die-hard fans will be left for the Revo. And casual gamers will see a PS3 or 360 at their friends house and run out and buy them, which takes away Iwata need of casual gamers on this system. The second reason actually relies on another rumor... The rumor that LOZ:TP will have unlockable features when played on Revolution. TP is scheduled for release in April meaning the Revolution will be released soon therafter (Or the same day?) and Nintendo dares not reschedule Zelda again...
Our Last topic is the Revolution Price point. We'll start with the $99 rumor, which is very improbable (It could happen, but I doubt it...) because not only would it raise Revolution sales, but it would lower DS and GBA sales. Imagine a home console with built in wi-fi, AAA games, downloadable retro games and content, and more for $99 sitting beside a $100-$120 portable with not many AAA games, and limited or no wi-f, which would you choose. The next Price Point is the $149. It could happen seeing that the ALPHA kits are 2x a Gamecubes power (But the Graphics will ROCK, read in Revolution Ramblings 3, coming soon.) Yet it still may seem to low... To me I think the $199 Price Point suits the system well (Even though if it is lower I would be happier). Still $100 less then 360's "crap pack" and no telling how much less then the PS3, $199 provides you with the system, controller, add-on, and maybe demo-disc, or Retro game download.. After getting a Game or two and maybe another controller, you pay as much as JUSt and Xbox 360 is... Sounds Awesome!
New Revolution Game Idea:
Cabella's Revolution Outdoorsman
This hunting amf fishing game would breathe a new life into the genre. It would use a more GTA "Go anywhere, do anything" approach and allow you to hunt and fish over 60 different animals. In career mode you start as a lone 18 year old hunter, trying to fufill your Grandpa's dream of capturing one of every Game in the land. You begin at your Grandpa's farm, fishing in his 3 ponds (To fish you hold the controller in your hand, and turn the Nunchaku attatchment sideways like a rell, so you can pull in different directions and reel as well. The story goes on as you traverse over 70 new areas on foot, or by ATV, Trunk, or more. You could fill your inventory buy selling your game, or mount them (For a price) and keep them in your personal hunting lodge (Yes, you could even make your own hunting grounds). Another Prime of the game is the Wi-fi mode. By starting Wi-fi you are transported to any of the many "Nintendo Grounds" where you are placed in a hunting area with 15 others. Some of the Nintendo areas would include Tundra, Plains, Dessert, Jungle, and more! Then you can compet to get the best game, team up and hunt with some buddies, or even just chat the day away in each areas exclusive hunting lodge. Oh yeah, beating the Career mode also unlocks Duck Hunt to add to your Retro Game list (If already downloaded it gives you a free download).
