Nintendo is in a funny spot, being that since they might not get the explosive sales numbers of competition, they also are making profit off of nearly everything they sell, being the primary supporters of their own stuff, meaning that they are rolling in that dough and doing fine. The Call of Duties and Assassin's Creeds HAVE to make staggering numbers to support their bloated production costs, whereas Nintendo does it's thing on the cheap, cranks out amazing games, and enjoys stability from moderate numbers. Plus, ya know...Pokemon and their handheld numbers could likely keep them afloat for the next decade by themselves.
I may have a gaming PC and PS4 (excited for Fallout 4 and Dark Souls III!), but I'm also enjoying Mario Maker and love the hell out of my Wii U and 3DS. It's a good time to be a gamer! :D
I've often found Alexa's other reviews to be fair and pretty in sync with my own tastes (as opposed to the McShea's of yore) so even though I've been suffering from Assassin's Creed Milking Fatigue, I may have to give this a shot!
Or wait and save my time and money for Fallout 4...decisions, decisions....
Was looking forward to this, and might still give it a try down the road. In the mean time, I'm perfectly content with Monster Hunter, Mario Maker, Metal Gear Solid V and Pillars of Eternity still on my plate...while plugging away at Final Fantasy IX again on my Vita (a system which would love to have any games lately, a score of "5" or otherwise).
Also...Fallout 4 and Xenoblade X are almost here!
What? Gaming has to be restricted to one console? Ack...what a disappointment that would be...
Would have loved to have been able to follow this game, it looks like it had some potential. Ivalice is one of my favorite Final Fantasy worlds (I often wonder why the MMO didn't fall in this world, with Tactics, XII and Revenant Wings showcasing gargantuan amounts of characters, classes, locations and even a guild system), and contrary to some opinion, I actually really enjoyed Final Fantasy XII.
No seriously...not just in Smash, but in general...where is the poor guy? A major villain of a numbered Mario entry (I understand the history of Super Mario Bros. 2's development), and a king of nightmares, who was somehow passed over in Mario and Luigi: Dream Team, a perfect opportunity to resurrect a fallen villain...especially with the underlying tones of Luigi feeling useless and trying to be noticed for once. You'd think in a world where they still have rights to Birdo, Shyguy and many others, that they'd at least touch on the forgotten fella.
He might not make the best fighter (though he is a heavy with projectiles, maybe slumber attacks or even an odd character who summons other Mario 2 villains), but I voted for him out of principal.
@relgn Some (including myself) might argue that FF IX was the epitome of "true" Final Fantasy, with it's whimsical, fantasy setting and throwback to classic player classes.
Amazing return for The Point! Great subject, I actually think about picking up the new GTAV just to try the first person, to add that extra layer of emotion and connection to the game world, because like you said, for some reason (maybe because I grew up playing PC FPSs) the first person vibe immerses me in the world more than any other. I'm a little on the fence though, because, like you said, the guilt aspect. I'm thinking the discomfort would be worth it though, and part of the experience.
Either way, glad to see the show back, it's easily my favorite thing on Gamespot.
