Great review, I think a 9 is completely fair. This game is damn near perfect, for the unique genre it is a part of, but not without the minor hiccup here and there, emphasis on minor. I'm not a fan of the Smash Tour as much, myself, as being a bit too chaotic and Mario Party-ish with random happenings defining your success, and the online is a little laggy for me, at the moment, BUT that's all I can complain about. Everything else is rocking perfection, and if you're a Smash Bros. fan, well...you already picked this up likely, and if not, it's worth every penny. Happy gaming!
...for those trying to find ways at picking it apart or comparing it's score to Far Cry or Assassin's Creed and such.
$5 for an interactive story that the reviewer thought was a great experience, an 8 out of 10.

"Oh hey, I could go for a great, interactive experience that's around an hour or so, I'd even be willing to spend $5 on it."
"Oh yeah? A Bird Story is a great choice, and for what you're you're looking for, I'd say it was an 8 out of 10!"
"Thanks! That's cheaper than a movie! ..but wait, if I'm not into the 16bit graphics or only want to mindlessly shoot brown and grey militants, I don't have to play it, right?"

Sonic games have clearly been struggling lately, so I'd HOPED this would be better, since I still love the lil' guy...but when I heard this was a tie-in with a TV show, I couldn't imagine how much actual effort would be put into the game, a series that needs 100% attention to make a passable game as of late, so most of my hopes were dashed...pun mildly intended.
Picked this up and have been having a blast with it. The graphics are phenomenal and vibrant, the action is wonderfully paced with great moments of intensity and adventure, and special mention should be made for the absolute masterpiece of a soundtrack in this game, from the same composer of the SNES games, it captures a sense of nostalgia while paving it's own way into musical greatness.
I'm not saying Mark doesn't justify or believe in his 6, I'm just saying that as a fan of platformers myself, I didn't think the game was anywhere near as bad as a 6, but more like an 8-8.5, and if you think you'd enjoy the game, it's worth the price of admission, because you probably will.
Thanks for the review, it looks like a good time. As a major fan of the Souls series, I love looking for gems that remind me of the feel, but love even more to find games that can still be their own game, which is how I happily stumbled upon Dragon's Dogma. Will definitely give this a try sometime!
@homelessgamer @Oloryn Great taste, those are among my favorite games of all time. I almost listed them, actually, ha, but I might put those into my personal "I can't describe this game without coming off as a fanboy" category. :D
@homelessgamer Great question...I don't know if I really think of too many games as cool, I think it's an odd descriptor, saved for a few games here and there that I think hit a great fun factor with that little bit of extra that makes you nod and go, "yep, that's pretty slick, I'll have to pass this one on to my friends."
Deus Ex, Bastion, Portal 2, and one of my favorite "cool" games of all time, actually a Nintendo game, Super Metroid.
