Overrated: the entire GTA series, hands down. There are others that do qualify, but GTA has top slot...

Underrated: Shadowrun, as long as I don't let it bother me that the game has an unfinshed feel to it and it did poorly with the Shadowrun name, it is still probably the most well balanced multiplayer game I have ever played (even with the larger learning curve) and is probably the most played game on my system.

If I had to choose between those two... CoD4 edges TF2 out, but gladly I do have a choice, and I play Shadowrun, as long as I don't let it bother me that the game has an unfinshed feel to it and it did poorly with the Shadowrun name, it is still probably the most well balanced multiplayer game I have ever played (even with the larger learning curve) and is probably the most played game on my system.

to be more specific, yes Games for Windows LIVE is fully functional on XP, just make sure that the game itself is XP compatible, if the game was made for Vista, it will not matter if it is GfWL compatible or not.

You need to install XP first, when installing Vista, it will recognize the "older windows installation" and install aside it and create the loader for you.

Though I have heard if you have Vista with the service pack 1 integrated, it may not allow a dual boot. I personally have not been able to verify this. As I have the pre sp1 version of Vista (and truthfully, I haven't even installed sp1 yet, as it works just fine for me, if it aint broke, don't fix it).

I have to say Western Digital or Hitachi myself. The WD's have always been the most dependable for me, while I have had issues with the Seagates I've owned and the Maxtor's.

But like anything, it can be the luck of the draw as well, it's like someone liking a Ford vs Chevy 'cuz one is way superior over the other, not true, you just have personally had better luck with one manufacturer over the other.

Have you updated to service pack 1 yet? and any other patches? Vista is notorious for hardware incompatibility, like belboz said, check the laptop mfg website for any possible drivers for Vista, if not there, determine your soundcard chipset and check the chipset manufacturers website for any possible patches/drivers, though as much as I hate to, the laptop manufacturers drivers are going to be more compatable with your computer. The chipset manufacturer has custom built the chipset for your laptop manufacturer (most likely).

NO soren91, I was NOT trying to be a smart a$$, I was serious, I have never heard of someone using a torrent client to open ports for a game before. A clever little pseudo-hack.

It should be really easy to do within your firewall program, all you need to know is which ports the game needs open, heck some of the firewall programs have a gui interface that allow you to set levels of security on a per program basis.

But it is interesting that the uTorrent trick actually will work, I always thought that the ports only remained open as long as the client was running, if you shut it down the ports close again. And IF you have the client running, and have an older machine, or an internet connection that isn't so good, well the torrent client will just make your system chug.

Seriously, I do appreciate the reply soren91 !!!

3 new entrys:

2 remakes of the old school game thrust!
(no arena shooters...but hey the games are great, especially gravitron...and i dont wanted to make an extra thread for this games)

->gravitron
->thrust extreme

i prefer gravitron!

and 1 geometry wars clone.
->grid assault

Gravitron
6 MB
http://xout.blackened-interactive.com/Gravitron.html

so whats going on here. ****c gameplay and good controls combined with nice graphics. i configured it that way:
movement with left and right arrows and thrust with up arrow.
shoot with A and shield with S. but its up to you what controls you prefer.
the first levels are easy...the later levels becomes harder and harder, but not unfair.

so your mission is:
1.)collect the little people by landing carefully on the ground
2.)shoot the enemies.
3.)if you want you can fill up your fuel by thrusting carefully beside the fuel tank and activate shield. so the fuel wll be transfered to your ship. dont touch the tank.
3.)destroy the base (countdown begins) and thrust into space

Thrust Extreme
3 MB
http://wiebo.wordpress.com/my-pc-games/

this game is in the same vein but its not similar.
so...basically same as above but you have also to collect a pod by activating your shield when you are close enough. with the pod on your rope its extreme hard to control cause it swings and when it hits anything it explodes...and so you.

1.)shoot enemies
2.)maybe fill up your tank by thrusting carefully beside the fuel tank while you activate your shield. dont touch the tank.
3.)collect the pod by actating shield.
4.)destroy base. (countdown begins)
5.)escape into space

 AuthenticKaizen

I would really like to try these two in particular, but I get a trojan warning with the Graviton game, and the Thrust Extreme just won't download.

I tried running the Gravitron one anyway on one of my spare machinces that I use for just such testing, and it would't run.

Has anyone had similar problems and/or fixes??

TIA!!

ok, let's pretend we are all complete 'tards here; could you please explain what a torrent client has to do with game servers?

I would really like to know.
