Way to be obvious, here I thought Sony would focus on the PS2 at Gamescom!

So the OS went from reserving 512MB when the PS4 had 4GB of RAM to upto 3.5GB with 8GB of RAM?

Oh, Richard Leadbetter wrote this, that explains it.

"Our vision is that every person can be a creator. That every Xbox One can be used for development," Xbox corporate vice president Marc Whitten said in a statement. "That every game and experience can take advantage of all of the features of Xbox One and Xbox Live. This means self-publishing. This means Kinect, the cloud, achievements. This means great discoverability on Xbox Live. We'll have more details on the program and the timeline at Gamescom in August."

Translation: We're doing it because Sony is doing it.

I'll be picking up the PC version some time after its release but these idiots are apparently are incapable of learning from history (at least since GTA III) when it comes to PC announcements for GTA games, all but one time (GTA:SA was announced a month and a half before the PS2 release but then didn't come out until around nine months later) Rockstar has worked on the console version(s) first and then announced the PC version months later. Maybe with GTA VI there won't be the huge gap anymore since all three platforms are going to be nearly identical from a architectural stand point and they won't have to put a massive amount of resources and effort in having two separate teams working on each version due to the hardware differences between them making it an absolute nightmare to port.

The annoying thing is these dorks are going to think they're responsible and take credit for Rockstar doing it when they announce the PC version a few months after the console release.

Yeah... After the disappointment that was ACIII I think I'll pass. Maybe I'll check it out in a year or two when I get a PS4 and it's a bargain bin game. Granted if it follows past AC games it'll be in the bargain bin in about six months after release.

@leandrro Actually, not sure what Sony is doing beyond Gaikai yet but even still, your example fails because Dell isn't a gateway (heh) to any sort of online access. But just as this story states, they're investing in improving their service.

If you want to blame anyone blame Microsoft, they're the ones that proved the model works and Sony's is still a lot less restrictive in terms of things stuck behind a paywall.

@leandrro

And? That was true this generation and the PS3/Vita side of PSN will remain free. Both MS and Sony are going to offer dedicated game servers this generation for XBox One and Playstation 4. What do you think all of MS's "cloud" talk is?

@Solidny

Because it's really time consuming for someone to take five seconds to check if adding "1-800" to the standard 555 phone number prefix used in TV/Film goes anywhere. It's a silly over sight by their art department that has nothing to do with what they're doing. That excuse that only applies to when developers get to crunch time at the end of development and even still it's weak.

Because no one during development decided to try giving it a call and seeing what happens over the years this game was in development?

Seriously?

@SinisterLemos @GrandMaster555 There's a big between this generation and the next. The XBO and PS4 this time around share the same architecture (along with PC) unlike this one. The PS3's issues came from exotic architecture that caused enormous problems for creating games on it, the biggest issue and why the majority of multi-platform games look and run better on the XB360 is the PS3's split RAM set up. The PS3 had an advantage but it wasn't that big at 51GFLOPS which amounted to about a 13% more performance on paper (thanks to Cell, the PS3's GPU kinda sucks compared to the XB360's) but again, the architecture of the hardware makes it very hard for developers to take advantage of and even if they can they still have to fight with a more rigid and limiting RAM set up. The smartest thing MS did with the XB360 was having a single shared pool of RAM.

Again, architecturally this time the PS4 and XBox One are architecturally the same with the PS4 having better RAM and more importantly a GPU that's also in the same family as the XBO's but with 50% more compute units giving the PS4 a much greater number of share cores to work with. That on paper 50% performance advantage comes from the GPU (thanks to those extra CUs/shader cores) being able to put out an extra 600GFLOPS of processing power. Percentagewise that might only be just under 4 times larger than the gap between the PS3 and XB360 but looking at the raw numbers it's nearly 12 times greater and multi-platform developers will take advantage of it. Top it off the PS4 this time around is even the easier platform to work on. So no, you're not going to see inferior versions of games on PS4 compared to the XBox One version.

Where the XB360 has the best performing versions of games around 9/10 times when there was differences to begin with, the PS4 will have that 10/10 times.
