Controls are controls. They're not "hardcore" or "casual." They're our link to the game world. Placing attention on the controls is like trying to judge scenery based on the window frame you're looking through. It's misplaced.

Actually I would argue that "hardcore" controller = ones that brings precision. You can't have a serious competition where the winner's determined by luck (i.e. motions not registering on Wii mote), if future motion controls can bring 1:1 precision, or close enough to it, I personally would consider it hardcore.

Hmm... good point. I think the Wiimote isn't too great with accuracy, but heard that adding MotionPlus does the job better. I never used MotionPlus before so I can't say for sure. But looking at Sony's E3 tech demo of Arc, it looks accurate enough to be competetive.

[QUOTE="PandaBear86"]Graphics DO affect enjoyability. Imagine if BioShock or Dead Space had PS1 graphics. The gameplay wouldn't change, but the atmosphere would suffer and the games would be given lower ratings because the atmosphere made the games so appealing. Atmosphere is judged by sound effects, artstyle, and GRAPHICS. Gameplay does NOT affect atmosphere.ThePlothole

The first Silent Hill managed to create a very creepy atmosphere with PS1 graphics. A lot of that had to do with the gameplay.

I disagree. Atmosphere is judged by your senses (what you see and what you hear). Movies have zero gameplay, yet some thriller/horror movies have better atmosphere than any game. Gameplay is basically moving analog sticks with your thumbs. I don't see know this affects atmosphere in any way. Atmosphere is judged by visual/hearing senses, not pressing buttons on a gamepad. If Silent Hill had PS3 graphics, it would GREATLY improve the atmosphere in ways that gameplay can't. Unless your defintion of "atmoshphere" is different to mine.

Same here. I just want to see peoples reactions when they see that some crazy people actually believe that graphics is more important than gameplay.Would these crazy people actually play Rogue Warrior over Zelda Ocarina of Time?:P

So in other words:

Nintendo announces motion controls = bad.

3 years later sony and MS announce motion controls = good.

Pretty much. Nintendo advertised it as both a hardcore and casual control method from the very beginning. But people seem to conveniently miss the hardcore part.

I understand what you mean, but some people don't want to play harcore games online with friend codes, 480p, no hard drive, etc. Especially when the superior version of that game is probably on 360 or PS3 anyways. There are some other factors to consider too.

Well until an actual 'hardcore' motion game comes out....it's casual. :D

Kiljoy66
Fair enough, I agree with you :) But have you seen the Resident Evil 5 demonstration video using the motion contols to play the game? That looked very good, and RE5 is a hardcore game so..... :D

Alot of people think that motion controllers are only good for casual games. Thats not true at all, because there no such thing as "casual hardware", since it is the SOFTWARE that determines whether a game is hardcore or not. Take a look at PC gamers... they use keyboard and mouse. Were keyboard/mouse ever designed for gaming at all? No, they were designed for general purpose things like word processing, editing pictures etc. But despite this, PC gaming is still hardcore because it is the SOFTWARE (not hardware) that determines whether a game is hardcore or not.

The reason why motion controllers are considered "casual-only" is because Nintendo markets them this way to appeal to non-gamers. But before you blame the Wiimote for making the Wii seem casual, ask yourself this: Was the GameCube a hardcore console? That system had no motion controllers at all, yet it was still treated as casual because the software (not the hardware) makes it so.

When Sony and MS join the motion control scene, they will have a different view from Nintendo. Sony has many first-party studios that WILL make some good hardcore games. Remember how Sony demonstrated on last year's E3 that the Arc Controller was good for RTS games? Well, RTS is an EXTREMELY hardcore genre, they can be far more intense and brain-straining than any shooting games. Try playing some hardcore RTS games like Company of Heroes or Empire: Total War and you'll see what I mean. RTS games are waaaaayyyy more hardcore than FPS games. If the PlayStation Arc can handle RTS games better than gamepads, then motion controllers are more hardcore than you think :)

Thoughts? :)

Both the iPad and the DSi XL are stupid. They're just oversized versions of the iPod Touch and the DSi.

I wouldn't be surprised though if Sony makes an oversized version of the PSP Go.

Why is it such a bad thing if one product is the same thing as another, but only bigger? Are you wearing the same shoe size as you were when you were 5 years old? No? Oh let me guess, your wearing an "oversized" shoe. Bigger products = appeal to a different section of the market. I have my eyes on the DSi XL.

CS to me is more like run and gun. First to pop the other in the head wins.

True. That game absolutely GLORIFIES one-hit-kills (instakills). You walk into an empty coridoor, and bam your dead, because you weren't fast enough to notice the camper around the corner.
