@texasgoldrush: The barest minimum. It was fairly widely agreed upon that the characters and story weren't the strong point of the story. It certainly wasn't motivating enough for me to continue playing.
I'm lukewarm on this right now. Gameplay seems fine, but I'm kind of tired of all these games with great gameplay coming up short story and character-wise. Knowing myself, however great the game might be to play, I'll get bored as the gameplay cycle gets repetitive and I lose interest. That is exactly what happened with Stellar Blade. The lack of interesting story and character development gave me zero motivation to keep playing halfway through the game. I suspect this will be much the same.
So far, the movie is earning praise by most critics, so I'll take this review with a grain of salt. DP2's plot mattered very little as well, so I'm not sure anyone seeing this actually cares about plot all that much and this review sounds more like a 6 than 4, as it says a bunch of stuff works well. I'm just there to have a good time watching Reynolds and Jackman do their thing. After the string of bland or bad stuff we've gotten from Marvel since Endgame, as long as this is fun, idc about much else.
Ok, and how many have seen these films? I will agree that a lot of the year's best films go largely unseen, but this is the kind of cluster that leads people to roll their eyes at pretentious critique. There's been quite a few good movies people have actually seen and it'd be nice to see what that list looks like, instead of this one filled with movies only a handful of critics have seen.
@RELeon: They've already had positive response to updates they've made based on things players were unhappy with. I don't think we need to worry about them being receptive to players wishes.
Played it for something like 60 hours currently and have had a blast with it the entire way through. The grind doesn't even feel that bad and I absolutely hate grindy games. The shooting is solid and impactful and it's precisely the kind of gameplay that I want from a game. Sorry the reviewer didn't like it. In fact, critics have been overly harsh to this. It's a F2P game you don't need to spend a dime in and it's got excellent, fun gameplay. The review doesn't even mention the Void Intercept bosses, which is one of the most fun and challenging parts of the game. I feel like gamers have become spoiled, expecting AAA quality, even in something that is F2P that you don't need to spend any money in. For a F2P game, this is a game that I've probably had more fun playing than anything else I am playing at the moment.
Being OP is not the problem. In fact, I feel like the industry as a whole has shifted away from the idea of being OP and turned towards the idea that everything has to be an overwhelming challenge. There's plenty of room for games where you have the power to destroy everything, so that's fine. The problem is, as described here, that this game isn't unique in any way. It is a cut and paste formula for Ubi with a Star Wars skin. That makes it uninteresting. I will admit that I am not the biggest Star Wars fan, but even in that sense, everything about it these days seems to be stale. I think this game will suffer due to that.
I have a couple of these, but the one I played most is Metal Slug Tactics and it's a lot more challenging than I thought it'd be. Fits well with the challenge of the original games. I'd add Once Human as well, as that is much better than I expected it to be.
