[QUOTE="Raiko101"]Dark Brotherhood could be good in it's own right, especially with the change in developer, but it's just not a sonic game as such. Rather it's just a game with Sonic in.clicketyclick
That's an interesting point. I wonder, what defines a game franchise? Is it the character? The developer? The genre it's in? The camera angle and game mechanics? Or is it something more ineffable, like the tone or atmosphere?
I'm just wondering, because is FFCC: MLaaK not really a FF game? Is Four Swords Adventures not really a Zelda game? Or what about Link's Awakening? I could give more examples, but I think people understand what I'm getting at.
These days I think it's the character that is the franchise. I mean Mario is the franchise as such. He's the one that sells Galaxy, Mario & Sonic at the Olympics, Mario Kart Wii etc... But if you take Mario from those 3 games they have nothing in common. None of those games need Mario to benefit gameplay or quality, but slapping his face into the game definately helps sell it. I think that may be where Sega went wrong for Sonic. Perhaps the 2D Sonic concept was too specifc to expand upon. The character can't sell anything other than it's 'speed', and thats too specific a characteristic that can differ too greatly from a more human like figure. Wheras Mario being a more basic character can be applied to multiple genres without looking out of place. Although he's a plumber, he never does any plumbing. In fact he does everything but. All Sonic can really do is run fast, and you can't apply that to many games. Kind of explains why Sonic is failing to make any kind of impact anymore.
You just take me back to an earlier point I tried making to some one else. If you want online FPS action and such, then look for games dedicated to that area as they will be better at that sort of thing and you'll be happier. The games based around single player experiences are exactly that and do not need multiplayer content, so if left alone yet more people will be happy. Both camps win.apparently me and the other guys share two different views on this whole metroid thing. he thinks i wanna can the entire single player experience as a whole and just make a metroid wifi experience. not what im getting @. what im trying to promote is the utilization of the technology thats availiable...the internet.
the comparison between the 2d and 3d was significant in the fact of nintendo staying true to current technology. im sure when 3d was announced it wasnt collected wholly by the ongoing 2d population. but current technology turned all that speculation into praise b/c it was executed beautifully. im sure when a 'shake' motion was announced to manipulate attacks for mario it wasnt fully accepted and felt outta place. but when it happened it gave you a better experience as a whole. new, different, and completely refreshing. now wfc and metroid sounds just as out of sync w/ shaking and super mario (IN A TECHNOLOGICAL SENSE). but thats the technology being implemented now. now understand me guy, im not trying to remove campaign mode at all. i want the same direction but different destinations (if i want to do some exploration, ok. if i wanna go tdm, thats ok also). give me that core metroid but a chance to enjoy it more as a gamer w/ a few online friends. dude speed runs or whatever it is cant be as entertaining as human feedback. and im not talking this just b/c the wii has online, but b/c this is a long running series and it can always stand to do something different and more interactive. come on- wii controls+samus+wfc= takes this game an entirely new frontier. this wouldnt be accepted initially b/c it feels foreign to the metroid franchise, but it also shouldnt be so readily averted b/c of those exact same reason. how is more game (w/ a friend) bad for metroid??
and with that, im done. i was somewhat pissed when i saw the disdain for mp and metroid. but ive heard you dude and this is the most civility your gonna get outta me. so speed runs and cpu for you, and wfc w/ a friend for me...have fun!

[QUOTE="VGobbsesser"][QUOTE="red_sovereign"]dude...leave single player intact (like they did in mph). and for multiplayer, theres no need for a grapple beam, i agree. scrap it and use a base character for samus. better yet, if you wanna add some 'zest' to your online persona, intergrate your campaign samus, one w/ better upgrades per say. this option would actually inspire you to play the campaign so you could be a bigger threat, w/ a bigger gun online. how does that not work? everyone saying that tradition works better w/ metroid is just too nostalgic. tradition works w/ thanksgiving, and i see no turkeys in prime games. video games are moving forward, and the best way to propel is to interact with multiple players. a more rewarding experience, more replay value, and wii needs more online traffic regardless. why are you guys so afraid of change, HELL THEY PUT MARIO IN SPACE!!!red_sovereign
Okay,so make the game not like Metroid, and more like every other first-person shooter out there.Got it.
you just wont give up huh?
but ok, metroid mp would be so refreshing to a series that has started has 2d, saw the world was into 3d, moved there, and the next great frontier is world wide connection. dont you see that forward momentum guy? or are you so stuck in paying and playing the same game over and over w/ absolutely no replay value?
im so sure that nintendo is gonna use the hunter idea b/c hello you had hunter-styled npc in mp3. they saw that formula was accepted in hunters and they put a few new faces in corruption. you do remember those faces right? even if you cant accept a CHANGE, you cant ignore that change is gonna happen. just like how you went from gamecube to wii. get with this century dinosaur!
Super Metroid and Metroid Prime have more replay value than Hunters. I still play Super Metroid till this day. That's 15 years of entertainment i've got out that game purely because of the rewarding experience. No multiplayer needed.
