I truly, truly doubt it.

I doubt the game sells more than 50,000 copies on consoles.

I think it's mostly ok.

The justification for it is that developers are artificially decreasing the value of a used game which SHOULD be the case. There should be incentive for you to buy new whereas before online passes a used copy functioned 100% exactly like a new copy (assuming it wasn't damaged).

Seiki_sands

It's not an incentive to buy new, it's a disincentive to buy used.

I think many people would be very happy to accept incentives to buy new, which would be bonuses such as bundle coupons for other software, future early access to betas, certain kinds of packaging that likely won't be resold like cloth maps, etc.

As long as anything can be bought used it will. I don't care how much content is included in a game, or how high the metacritic score is, you will ALWAYS find used versions of those games, and developers realize this.

Oh sure if a developer only survived off day one sales then online passes would be a joke, but plenty of games go on to sell months, or years after release.

Adapt or die.

The most successful Japanese companies have always been developers that have catered to both Western, and Japanese tastes. Games like Mario, Metal Gear Solid, Castlevania, Megaman, Sonic, etc etc all helped their respective companies to become the biggest in Japan (and some are of the largest in the world).

There was a time when consoles weren't too expensive to put the super-Japanese games on, but not in today's market. Only handhelds can really support those games nowadays, but if the Japanese devs still don't want to adapt in 5-6 years time when handheld development prices increase to a point where they can't really sustain themselves then who knows what'll happen. Maybe they'll all crumble, or maybe they'll have begun exploring different options by that point like a smart developer should.

[QUOTE="Lethalhazard"][QUOTE="finalfantasy94"]

If the game was a broken mess you might have something there. The fact they take insperation from indiana jones doesint make them talentless.

finalfantasy94

UC1 and UC3 are a broken mess, ridden with bugs or poor controls. UC2 was a fluke in ND's development.

 yea didint run into these "poor controls" or "bugs" you speak of in UC1. If these were as serious as you say you would hear more about this in other opinoins.

UC3 actually had terrible input latency (might still unless they patched already)

But it launched like this

Years later I still find it funny to sneak actual movie titles into lists of upcoming PS3 games.

Another 8 hour long "cinematic experience" I imagine? I'll definitely pass. I'll buy it if it's an actual game though.

[QUOTE="Chris_Williams"] you wanna know why most of us are saying ITS A GOOD THING because everyone sees it being abuse, you see, i see it, sony has seen it, all this time but they just haven't done anything about it till now. There are even people on here who occasionally ask to trade psn games or DLC with people they don't even know, their are websites that were made just so people can trade passwords and information to game share. I know people are abusing it and you know it too Chris_Williams

Who cares if people are abusing it? ITS ONLY 5 SHARES. BIG F DEAL! Some people have several PS3s and want to have the content on all of theirs. Some people want to go to a friend's house to play mortal kombat online coop but now they cant. The online passes plus this crap is so terrible. Console gaming is becoming total crap.

wow, own a business then come back and say ITS ONLY 5, thats 5 sales lost, 5 sales that people got and also you can still gameshare just deactivate the ps3 and you can transfer it, you can even go online and do it, all you guys are doing are pointless bickering

It's not 5 lost sales. It's 5 potential customers. Sorry I can't link, but take a look at this video (or don't): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Qkyt1wXNlI This is a guy who does create work that gets freely shared on the internet. He was originally frightened by the fact that people could pirate his works all they wanted, but as time went on he, along with his publisher, began realizing that the places where his content was being pirated were also places in which the sales of his books were INCREASING. He even talks about an experiment he did where his publisher put out one of his works for free for a month, and the following month saw a 300% increase in sales. Having your stuff available does nothing, but increase awareness of your stuff. I guarantee everyone on this entire system wars message board has bought a game because they were lent a previous title in the series. I guarantee everyone on this board has paid for at least some music after hearing it on the radio, or in a movie. I guarantee everyone on this board has bought a a book after reading one that a friend lent them, or one they had checked out from a library, and the list goes on. Awareness INCREASES sales. Sony taking away games from people is only helping to keep those people away from buying future titles because they'll have never had experience with them.

[QUOTE="SW__Troll"]ITT: Console gamers who don't care at all that something is being taken from them Every single time a feature is taken, or a measure is put in place that harms console gamers they seem to rather enjoy it. I don't get it.Chris_Williams

For many, it doesn't necessarily do any harm, but I will concur on that last part. I really don't understand why people are looking at this as a positive implementation.

if you had your own company, would you be okay with people downloading something once and just handing it out to 4 other people? thats 4 sales you just lost, sony isn't taking away the feature their just limiting it to 2, the feature was suppose to be incase your ps3 died or something you can just re-download all your games, people abuse the crap out of the feature sony took measures on it, don't see how this isn't clear to people yet

Back in my day sharing games with my friends was not a problem. So many great nights on my SNES/Genesis playing games. I actually personally own three copies of NBA Jam because I loved playing it with friends so much as a kid. I have a Genesis version, SNES version, and the Tournament edition all because the game was brought to my attention through someone sharing it with me. Also when I was in high school my friends and I would do LAN parties near every weekend playing games such as Civilization, Age of Empires, Empire Earth, etc. I never bought the copies we LAN'd with becuase I didn't need to, but I did buy future installments of the game because as before the series were brought to my attention. Nowadays it's become alright to have your ability to share games taken from you? When did standards drop so low?

No, there's not a lot of juice left unless you want to keep making compromises. Games could have better AI, they could have better physics, they could have larger scale, they could have more interactive environments, etc etc. All of which can change a game significantly. Graphics have helped influence game design since games came out. Games today could have never existed in previous gens because of graphics whether or not people want to hear it or not. Shadow of the Colossus would not have worked on the NES, Gears of War would not have made a good SNES game, and Total War would have blown up any computer 20 years ago. People need to quit downplaying graphics as if they don't matter at all.
