[QUOTE="SW__Troll"]People paying for XBL doesn't bother me. I see it for what it is. It's a very simplistic, and easy way to get services into your living room just like a smart phone is a very simplistic, and easy way to get services on the go.

Let's say developers start locking out content from a game you bought such as the final cutscene, additional players, or sidequest and charges you $5 to access these parts of the games would you be cool with them doing that especially with the game still costing you $60?

Because with PS3, 3DS, DS, PSP, Steam, etc when you buy a game, you get the full game.

On 360 when you buy a game you get the singleplayer experience.

Once you pay Microsoft money you get the multiplayer part.

Once again Other Services: Price of game

360: Price of game plus Live.

I'm sorry, but just because a PC game has online connectivity doesn't mean you'll get it.

PC online is paid for by the community of gamers who donate to keep servers up. If they stop paying the servers go down.

I donate $60 a year for a Minecraft server myself.

I also just bought a game called Commandos 2 off Steam. I can't play it online though it does have online multiplayer functionality.

Cool how that works right?

The Last of Us......not after what Uncharted 3 was granted I didn't buy that either.

I also probably won't buy Diablo 3, but I don't think that comes out this year.

I really dont want anything "doomed." Aside from maybe CoD, simply because of what it has done.

What has it done?

Sure. They're hugely popular, often completely dwarfing online populations of any console game

Yah, I've heard of some MMOs with upwards of 50 million registered accounts.

And LoL I think is around 20 million players isn't it?

I learned the hard way supporting the original PSP at launch. After a year or so support for it dropped immensely in favor of the DS, and I had very few reason to ever pick it up again.

The PS Vita has almost no games I'm interested in atm. I'd like Dragon's Crown, and any other RPG/beat'em up style games, but I'm not going to risk spending $250 on a Playstation handheld again. Not for just a small handful of games.

Psp got plenty of support it has most of the sony series minus a few. That said it doesn't mean the games appeal to you.

The DS library kicked the PSP's ass hardcore.

I got a few good games out of the PSP, but the DS was practically every week or two a good game came out.

Sound logic. The only reason steam doesn't have as many features is because it doesn't need to provide them. The PC plus steam has more features than the 360 plus xbl, but I see your point. I admit on its own xlb has more features, but that's becase it's the only thing on the hardware so it has to provide everything they need because nothing else can.

It just bothers me when everyone seems to think the only feature of XBL is online gaming.

XBL is a service that encompasses a lot of features, and puts them all on a nice, convenient box under your tele, and they're all fully integrated.

I've always seen paying for XBL as I see people paying for data plans on their cell phones. I mean my laptop does everything a cell phone can for free, yet people still pay upwards of $100 a month for their smart phones don't they?

Can an HTPC do it too? Yah, but for $200 nah. Not only that, but it's more complicated to get everything set up on a PC than it is on an Xbox or Playstation, and so people find value in it. I don't personally use it myself as I'm pretty savvy with my PC, but not everyone is.

So your argument is that because Microsoft chooses to reinvent the wheel and Valve didn't, the service is worth charging for?

Valve isn't even a part of my argument, so no that's not what it is.

Wii Understand what you want

That's what the console itself told me.

Steam has same thousands of games, isfree, has deticated servers, has complete mod support(including mods you can get through steam workshop), is compatible with windows and OS X(both of which can be used to watch youtube, netflix, hulu, and just about every other internet related feature on xbox live), and has amazing sales. XBL has... 3d avatars. I would love to hear what you have to say about how xbl is better than steam. Bring it on.

Flavorysoup

All Steam is is a distribution platform for games. That's it. That's where the features stop.

It's a store, it self-updates Steam games, and you get VAC to protect some games online.

Steam is NOT the reason games have mod support or dedicated servers. That's up to the developers of the game itself.

Being compatible with Windows and OSX isn't really a feature. XBL is compatible with Xbox, but that's not a highlight of the service.

And things like youtube, netflix, hulu and every other internet related feature aren't part of Steam, so how is that a plus for Steam?

I agree that the features of the entirety of PC stomp Xbox Live. Believe me, I've been a PC gamer for 15 years. I know these things.

But I've also been using Steam since beta, and feature-wise it's beaten by Xbox Live.

PS3 and PC is free. Play Steam sometime which does more than XBL for free.

That's the second time that's been said in this thread

Even if it's said a hundred more times it still won't come true.
