I would say, clarification on whether or not you can set up replays in training would be needed. It helps for when you want to know how to get past certain things, like lariat, electricity, air fireballs, and so on. Once I realized I'd done that, I was sorta like, "oh snap... did I cheat?" Other than that, I thought it played out well. Take what's given to you and stick it out. What else do you need?Btw, I realize I was not part of the ground up project, but I was wondering out of curiousity, what would you change in the way the project played out if you end up doing it again? was there any kind of rule that limited any sort of potential learning opportunity that should be revised for next time? Any possible enhancements?

So, I had to get a couple tires replaced today, and there happens to be a GameStop near the service center, so I went in. Check out this, eh?
GRID. $26.99 used, $19.99 brand spankin' new. 'Nuff said.
After I found this gem, I went against my own convictions and decided to buy Knights in the Nightmare new. Wouldn't you know it, the young guy you see there in the background brought me the only "new" copy they had in the store... and it had been opened. Wow.
I admit it. I am part of the problem. That doesn't mean GameStop doesn't suck.
[QUOTE="ShenlongBo"]GameStop is also annoying because of how they constantly badger customers for pre-orders and subscriptions.muthsera666Both of the times I've been asked, I just said no. It was never a big deal at any of the dozen or so GameStops I've been to.Right on. I have no problem with that at all. It's not always the case for me around, here, mind you, but all the same. If your store is cooler about it, then yeah, that's that.
PSP Go is 250 at launch and the wii was 250 at launch, so the equation stands. Some may argue the PSP is a portable system and the wii is a home console, but I still think the wii is last gen tech sold at full price. Reggie should ask himself why they did that, before mumbling about sony.I feel you in principle, but the people have spoken: the Wii, in spite of its limitations, sold by the truckload. If Reggie needs to reflect on anything, it needs to be, "holy ****, how can we do this again?!"[QUOTE="Skylock00"]Firstly, the Wii is 200 bucks now if we want to be specific...and secondly, the biggest problem with the Go is that it heavily restricts which games you can play on it, due to the fact that if a game isn't available in a digital format, you cannot play it at all on the system, despite you paying more for it than you would a regular PSP. Realistically, from looking at things, the PSPGo is more aimed at going after the iPod Touch crowd than the Nintendo DS crowd, going as an iPod Touch that can play real games...at the very least, that's the impression I'm getting from some of the comments I've heard around regarding consumer response to the product.Black_Knight_00
If I buy a game from GameStop, open it right there at the counter, suddenly decide I don't want it, and ask for my money back, the best I can get is a trade-in (unless I'm cool with the managers... which I am... but that's not the point).
By comparison, a GameStop employee can take a brand-new game home, open it there, play it for three days, and then bring it back to the store where it will be sold as "new."
If that's not an example of hosing the customer, I don't know what is.
GameStop is also annoying because of how they constantly badger customers for pre-orders and subscriptions. Newsflash: we don't need to "reserve" a copy of ****ing Madden. There is going to be no shortage of Madden this year. Savvy people like me realize that when we pre-order games, more often than not all we're doing is contributing $5 to a giant ball of money that the corporation gets to stow away in a bank and build interest on. I believe in giving value for value, and I'm sorry, but I see none there for me.
Think GameStop's not interested in fleecing customers? How about the latest trend of having to pre-order games in order to play demos? When it comes to the prices for used vs. new games, trade-ins, and so on, all I can do is shrug. The right price for any product is whatever the customer is willing to pay. As long as people keep going for it - as long as they refuse to look to the competition - I won't hold the price situation against GameStop. In fact, I won't hold any of it against them. There are people out there who don't mind getting shafted and used, so I say they should do what they can with those people. Just know that, except in extraordinary circumstances, I'm not one of'em.
[QUOTE="freekninjinc"]Is there a way we can report this guy or something? If all he does is troll, then he shouldn't belong in here. Consider it handled, man. No biggie.whee!

Alright, so. Ground Up Project. Gen. Me. Wow. *cough*
I made it through the entire month playing as only Gen. I didn't mess with any trials with other characters, didn't practice anything with other characters, nothing. I guess, strictly speaking, I cheated one way, though. First, in practice, I had my training dummy do a move that I was trying to figure out how to overcome. For example, Gief's lariat, or Blanka's electricity, or Akuma's air FBs. Of course, I was already well into my practice session before the thought of whether or not that constituted cheating hit me. Looking back, I would call that fair game, but then, the rules say... *shrug*
When the month kicked off, I hated having to flick down to the bottom-right corner and choose Gen. Every match I was in, I felt completely useless. I could barely even beat the AI. I kept getting confused on stances, I didn't know a single worthwhile combo or punish, and it just seemed like someone had blindfolded me, spun me on a merry-go-round, and then set me loose on a street riddled with potholes. I was stumbling around like a helpless baby, and I hated it.
I stuck with it, of course, and as time went on, I started to find that comfort zone where, even though I had way more questions than answers, I could at least make my way through a match competently. Before long I was getting the hang of Gen's low hop, his crossups, his wall jump kick shenanigans, his dual-Ultras, and so on. Switching back and forth between stances on the fly got a lot easier, in spite of having to second-guess myself at times.
By the third week, I had kicked virtually all of the "new character" jitters and had become, at least, a legitimate threat to other solid players. We enjoyed out first SFIV tournament in my area, here, and I won with the character I'd promised to stick with for an entire month. At the time, I feel like I was a competent Gen player on top of a more-or-less strong player in general, which usually isn't enough to win a tournament. I didn't even have a lot of Gen's BnB down at the time, and I made tons of epic mistakes. My opponents probably just didn't know how to react to such an ecclectic character, which gave me the edge. Considering I got fourth in the second tournament, losing to two of the players I'd beaten in the first one, I'd say yeah, that's the case.
Here we are at the end of the month, and I'm actually very, very happy I had this idea. I know it didn't resonate quite as well with you guys, but I hope you had fun anyway. This sort of thing is right up my alley, though - just do something that doesn't make sense, or that might make you uncomfortable, or whatever, because of those things. Weird, eh? *shrug*
Anyway, now that I can choose other characters, I have been. In fact, my first order of business on the 11th was to choose Sagat and Akuma and just revel in the feeling of having good moves again! I also had to get back in there and do some be-bopping with Sakura, because I didn't spend all that time practicing with her for nothing. And, of course, there was required time with Gouken, and yeah... didn't exactly lose my touch. But Gen isn't sitting the bench, and probably never will. I see him as a mainstay in my arsenal, now, and an excellent replacement for Vega's sorry ass.
It was fun, guys. Thanks for playing :)
Oh, how did I forget? The Ground Up Project is officially over. Who's happy? Who's relieved? Those of you who participated, tell us all about it. I'm seriously very curious to get impressions from you guys. I'll post mine up in a bit. For now, I'm buried in footage I have to put on YT, so I'll be doing that. Plus, I just want all of you to go first, heh. So go!
Oh, MM - we've still gotta do some Gen/Abel. No doubt.
Second tournament just went down last night, and it was another hit. Same amount of people showed, but it wasn't the same crowd.
Newcomer Reggie stepped in and swept the competition with a viscious Cammy. Bryan, a Ryu player, put me in loser's, and my other friend Delo took me out with Honda in an intense match. Delo ousted Bryan, giving Bryan 3rd place. Delo lost to Reggie in Grand Finals, taking second, and I got fourth. But really... who cares about fourth?
Next tournament is penciled in for November 21st, same place, and this time I'm not gonna be locked in with Gen. Next tournament is mine.
You getting on tonight, man? We've got some catching up to do. If you don't see me on live, hit me up on AIM (ShenlongBo). I'll also check the forum, here, to see if you're available.Something fun for you all.

GamesRadar was cool enough to make a map to show the origins of just about every SF character to date. :)
