I also have a question to ask regarding Akuma.

I was checking out Justin Wong's site and he said, in one of the questions about what his personal tier is, and he said that it was Sagat, Ryu, and Akuma. And yet, Akuma isn't that high on the tier list, last I checked. I think he was in the A or B, but to be on the top three? While he has great tools that make him effective, it's his stamina that doesn't get him that high.

So why would be #3 on his list?

Metamania

He's #5 or 6 in the consensus lists, so Justin putting him up a couple spots isn't that far fetched.

Those are big spots, though. How do you make the case for Akuma over characters like Rufus or Balrog?

Rufus I can understand, but Balrog? His mixup game is pretty hard to go against, especially in the hands of an expert Balrog player.

I think you might have misunderstood, bro.

I think, to put it very simply, the unpredictability of Akuma is what puts him on the level with powerhouses like Rufus and Rog. In fact, you could say he's got a particularly strong advantage over Rog in that he's got a normal overhead and mad crossup ability, both of which Rog lacks entirely. This isn't to say Akuma belongs higher up on the list, but I'd imagine these factors could come into play for people who, like Justin, put him pretty high up.

Spoiler Alert: Don't read another letter of this if you don't want to know how Season's Beatings went down.

All I'm gonna say is, I was all for Justin winning until he acted like a donkeyhole in the semis. For those who missed it, he took Fei Long against Daigo's Ryu and was doing great. After one of his victories, I heard Seth Killian saying, "someone get Justin out of Daigo's face."

Daigo, on top of all his fighting game accomplishments, is a consummate gentleman at events. I'm ready to see someone else win, but after what Justin did, I was thrilled to see Daigo figure out the Fei Long tricks and dust Justin off. Justin should recognize and honor Daigo as his #1 rival, not to mention superior. Maybe these guys have a friendly relationship that I don't know about, and I'm reading too much into this. Who knows? Either way, I was happy to watch Daigo adjust and smack Justin back down.

I thought so..... I don't see why that would put you off legitimate online retailers like amazon.

Don't tell him that, he'll probably just tell you to shut the hell up.

Guys, I know he's being a troll, but ignore it. The mods will handle it. Stay on topic, or this thread goes bye-bye.

[QUOTE="Metamania"] Yeah, it's going to be one of the first few games of 2010 that I will be pre-ordering. DarkCatalyst

Pre-ordering is for suckers, man, even if they give you some "extra bonus" for doing it. Pre-order things like arcade sticks, because they won't arrive at the store otherwise. But games? Dude... pre-ordering is giving away money.

/rant

Depends on the town you live in. Some places, you have to do that just to make sure the game will get shipped to the store in question.

I pre-ordered SFIV to make sure I'd get it on 17 Feb., and it didn't arrive in the store until the next day. I. Was. Livid.

And yeah, I know there's a difference between the release date and the street date, so I was sure to ask them. They assured me I'd have the game on the 17th. That day rolled around, and wouldn't you know it? Meanwhile, a buddy of mine had SFIV shipped to his house because he'd ordered it online. If you're going to do a pre-order, do that, you know?

[QUOTE="Iceman8012"] Gutted copies aren't used. I am just tired of hearing that stupid excuse. It is ok to sell an "opened game" new. NO ONE HAS USED IT! Yes I do know of the rule they have for checking out games and how they are technically used (I used to work at a Gamestop). If the game doesn't look like it is brand spanking new then the employee has the payment of the game docked off of his or her pay, or they pay up front for the game. It isn't like the game is covered in dirt and scratches. It is almost like it wasn't ever used in the first place. I don't know about you, but I don't need that fuzzy feeling that no one has touched my disc outside of the assembly line.Gamefan1986

Does any of this apply if I, as a customer, open a game in the store, and then decide I don't want it after all?

Didn't think so.

Why in the blue hell would you open a game in the store then say you don't want it before you even played it? That makes absolutely no sense.

You are missing the point, which is simply this: customers can't return open games as new (for any reason, ever), but employees can. Don't make this hard, because it's not.

I didn't play Viper as much as I would have liked, but I enjoyed what little time I spent with her. I could see her being a solid secondary. The only problem is execution, but that depends on me more than anything else.

King9999

On the topic of execution...

...any of you other Ground Uppers noticing any improvements? I sure as hell am. There are links with Sakura, Akuma, and Bison that I used to struggle with that now feel like they come out on their own. The game almost feels like it's moving in slow motion now that I don't have to think of so much all at once. Is this an after-effect of playing Gen for a month straight, or is simply having to play in unfamiliar territory for so long the cause?

Your end of the argument makes no sense. It is completely different than how you are wanting to make it sound. It isn't like a lot or random people are touching and using the game. The system is based on a liability system where the employee who checks out the game is responsible for the condition of the game. A system that has nothing to do with what you compared it to.

My position makes perfect sense, but I'll try to spell it out for you.

An open game is an open game, "liability system" or whatever else be damned. The simple fact is, a customer can't return an open game back to the store as new, but an employee can. That's a pretty clear disparity. I could elaborate further to make it more clear, but honestly, if you can't draw the obvious conclusion from there, I'm done talking to you.

[QUOTE="Legendaryscmt"]

I think their biggest problems are their trade in values and selling used games as new. I can understand a business wanting a profit, but there's a difference between earning a profit and ripping the customer off while earning a bigger profit. As for their games, if the game is opened, it's not new. Only reason why it's not really being changed is that people don't consider it a big enough problem.
