I'm looking into the moderation issue folks, no need to get worked up about it at the moment, k? ;) EDIT/UPDATE: Should be reversed, don't worry about taking the post down that you've redone, Shen.

Skylock00

Much appreciated, man. Take this advice, guys, k? I wasn't letting you all in on the mod action to vent, I seriously just wanted to get the info out there about how finnicky the rules can sometimes be. So yeah, take in the info and just keep it moving. We've still got lots and lots of SFIV to talk about :)

My 360 RRoD'd so I wont be able to finish the Ground Up Project :(

Metamania

Damn! I'm sorry to hear about that man! That really sucks! :(

Hey, you're still a winner in my book, Martial. As far as I'm concerned, you were down as hell, so it's all good about the Ground Up Project. Only a few days left anyway. Maybe finish those off when you get your 360 back?

Hey guys, just wanted to share a little something with you. I got moderated for a comment I left in this thread, for supposed trolling. Yeah... I know, right? *shakes head* Anyway, whoever modded me is flat WRONG on this, lol, as what I said was far from trolling (posting solely to annoy, offend, etc.). If anything, I was responding respectfully and openly, if frankly, to someone who was trolling us. I don't think he was trolling, mind you, but if anyone was... it wasn't me. Anyway, here's the post that got moderated.

"The implication here is that you can play games for fun OR something else, but never a combination of things. It's called a false dichotomy, and it's generally the song of weak players who want to seem intellectually superior to stronger players, or who simply want to ease the sting of not being able to win."

Anyone remember this? It was in response to an "I play for fun" comment. Like I said, if anything, a guy barging in on a conversation where people are talking about how much they love serious/competitive play with that kind of remark could be seen as condescending, disruptive, or even trollilng. He was just stating his opinion, I'm sure, but there you go. I'm sharing this with you guys so you'll know that next time one of these guys come along (I'd be willing to be the dude reported me, but I don't know), you just sort of ignore them and keep it moving. I happen to know firsthand that the mods on this side range from totally chill/highly intelligent to... the opposite. Don't bother making a conversation of this, because it'll just lead to more moderations, whether they are warranted or not. Personally, I don't care at all about my GS mod history, but for those of you who do, I felt like this needed to be shared. I mean seriously, would any of you have pegged that comment as trolling? Me neither. Hopefully this gives a better inidication of where the line is.

Hey guys, the Ground Up Project wraps up very soon. For those of you involved, have we got some more updates, impressions? Any major news to share?

Metamania

Abel is one tough cookie to master, but I do enjoy playing as him a lot more than I did before. You're right about what you told me, SLB. His spacing, footwork, and timing will be impeccable when I play as Ryu again after this ground-up project is done. I haven't been on XBLive lately, but I have been training extensively with him and while I'm used to pulling off old combos that I know that work well, I am also trying to incorporate FADC into my game as well so that I can mix up my game even further. It's tough, but it is very challenging!

Very glad to hear it, man. I made a comment to DC that I was going to tear your head off with Gen next time we played, and I'm looking forward to the opportunity. Hopefully we get that chance soon.

Oh, and not that I think this needs clarification, but just in case... I wouldn't even bother to make a statement like that if I didn't respect your game, man. You were really impressive when we played, and you've got some hellacious instincts. Just saying... next time, I intend to wreck you. Ya know... as friends.

;)

Also I'm looking around for a solid fight stick for my 360, god knows I'm getting a good enough collection of games to use it for. Right now I have my eye on two at my local EB/Gamestop. They're the two made by Madcatz. One's the $99 and the other, the Tournament Edition, is $199. This is in Canadian dollars. I'd prefer to get the TE but was wondering if it's a solid enough product for it's price or if that amount of money could be used on a better product although those were the only two sticks I can find in my area.

Archangel3371

If the $99 stick you're referring to is the MadCatz SE stick (it's mostly white, with a bunch of SFIV characters on it), then stay away from it unless you intend to mod it. Out of the box, it is destined for failure. However, it is fairly easy to fix/mod if you're cool with that, and makes a nice stick once you do, I hear.

As for the TE, get 2. The thing is freakin' brilliant exactly the way it is, so you don't have to do anything at all to it. Check online auctions, though, because you might be able to cop one for a much better price there.

I can honestly say I only play for fun now, even though given the chance I would play absolutely anyone, pro or not,who would play me,and with no real care who wins,as long as they can play me for real and see first hand what I'm talking about.Alot easier than trying to explain it.So I suppose I could care less about the logic surrounding tournaments. And as I only recently came to the conclusion that japan is a poor sport and just wants to make itself look better than me,I ddid beleive tournaments were an awesome way to appreciate the games.Doesn't really fly with me now.freekninjinc
Really? That's nuts man, because I play for not fun. I'm hardcore. In fact, I'm so hardcore, that while I'm playing, if I start to detect even a hint of fun sneaking in, I immediately quit - even if I'm winning.

[QUOTE="freekninjinc"]Ripleys believe it or not,it's the case.I really dont get what You are scared of,it's just a game.Pretending these suckas are playing better than You is'nt gonna help You any.Whatever at least remember thats My position on it.When You figure that out for Yourself, dont say I didnt warn You.DarkCatalyst
That'd be the case if it wasn't all about getting the W. In a tournament, you can't appeal a loss just on the grounds that you didn't like how your opponent played. It only matters that you win, not how you win.

*shrug* Send him a game invite. You never know, he just might accept. If it works, do us a favor and record the matches, too. I'd love to see some "believe it or not" in action, not to mention some positive identification of... "suckas."

I know I'll get flamed but people regarded as pros by alot of players(most i suppose)are just spammers. Its people like You willing to play them, give them props, and lose to them, that actually have the experience and just plain dignity that I appreciate in opponents.Anyone can game the system, anybody can go rob somebody when theyre sleeping.Doesnt translate to skill and experience in my book.So dont short change Yourself, these 'pros' will never be able to say they had the sacks to admit theyre cheap.Maybe someday there will be a game worth putting the effort into that 'pro' players claim to have in the games we have now./rant *puts on firemans gear*

Not exactly sure what you're saying here, but let me respond to what I gathered.

1) I didn't let JR win.
2) JR has been beasting the scene for years.
3) Even the pros call each other pros, not just us "normal" guys.
4) Nothing at all in what JR did against me, nor what I've seen him do to countless opponents, is "spam," and I can't see how it could be seen as such.

You know, I have to admit that this whole Ground Up Project thing has been unbelievably positive for me. Who could have foreseen this? With the character that was chosen for me, I hosted, entered, and won a tournament, I got to play against one of the top names in Street Fighter, and I discovered a character who may very well become my new full-time main. I appreciate the compliment on my progress, btw.

As for playing D, I think it's good advice, but I also think that's exactly what JR has gotten godly at overcoming. The trouble with trying to FA his demon flips is that he can easily opt for the throw instead of the kick on reaction, and that just owns me outright. As for the double-roundhouse... go watch my matches with DC. I pretty much always get tagged on the second hit (which means both hits to damage), then wind up eating a combo. I actually felt like I needed to bring more offense to keep him from building momentum, but that offense needed to be far, far more precise. But then, when you get manhandled the way I did, it's hard to pin down any one thing that would have made a huge difference, heh.

LikeHaterade

I guess I know how to pick em. :P

I think that some of the best SF matches that I've seen are slower and a lot longer because they play 50-50 on offense and defense. I just think that attempting to keep your distance a little more and wait for your opponent to do something, and then react is one of the best ways to go against someone that you know is better than you. Also, try to play an unexpected game. Throw out an AA attack just for the hell of it. It could just so happen to connect, or it could bait your opponent.I do it with Fuerte and it works. Obviously, not all the time, but it will make it more difficult for your opponent to read your game.People that are pro have played many people and have been there, done that and got the t-shirt for the habitual play-style of most players and particular characters. Gen can be an exception to that. I do it with Fuerte and it works. So every once in awhile, do random; but not enough to expose yourself.

*bows* Right on. I definitely did NOT have the winning strat, so I'm in no position to defend it, lol. In any case, I appreciate the feedback and insight.
