Uhm, pretty sure you can't imitate. Most successful governments (if there's any) with libertarian socialist ideals are small and cannot be compared to the US. Especially in terms of demographic. Wasn't America built on free market?

Victorious_Fize

think your wrong, us libertarians know we are right and want to have a libertarian US government... we would not willy dilly inflict a completely unproven form of government on the most powerful country in the world... that would be completely illogical and make us mad men.

And yea we were sort of libertarian before pesky child labor laws and the abolishment of slavery.... you know, the good times when man was free to spend his money how he pleased with limited government! if i want my child to die in a coal mine, thats my right!

there are plenty of "socialist" countries out there that are all smart and happy according to measurable indices, but how bout those lesser known libertarians governements.

Like many of my US libertarian friends, ive seen those highly successful libertarian governments... and want to imitate them. But i cant seem to remember the name of those countries? Any hints?

Hey look, another article on the internet on how horrible it is to live in America.

You could always move to Haiti, or somewhere in Africa. Don't have to live here.

gamerguru100

You make an excellent point. Even though America may be at the bottom of the list in the developed world, it's still light-years better than third-world African and Asian countries.

its not at the bottom of the list in terms of the developed world... maybe in terms of spending vs results it is.

But we are still smarter than most european countries.... but me ron paul and wasdie have seen the super successful somalia model of government and are trying to replicate it!

Ugh, while all of this may be true it doesn't change the fact that

A) America is the great country in the world at the moment (used to be Great Britain for 100s of years and think most can agree that factually the british empire has had the most influence and overall 'greatness' of any nation of all time)

B) Americans can afford items easier than almost any country in the world, so that makes a lot of the negative points invalid.

Now why is US the greatest country on earth ? Do I need to defend this? Its not really debatable, just look at any international ranking, its more difficult finding a list where the US is not #1...

(UK, Japan and Germany following after the US in terms of power, wealth, cultural influence, education, entertainment, engineering, sports, GDP, cars, politics, movies, games, technology, programming, military power. economics, trade, art, and etc... an overall ranking including everything except history)

No I am not American.

mattisgod01

america is #1 in military power... and i also think #2 which just seems silly.

but we arent too hot in anything else i dont think. Maybe our per capita income but thats mostly scaled up by our top 1%.... bottom 99% probably isnt #1

But you are in the right mindset, we may not be leading education, life expectancy, infant mortality, happiness index.... But we are the world leader in blowing crap up. So its wise to hold your tongue :P

The US makes up about half the entire worlds Military expenditure. Thats not something i'd necessarily be proud of. How exactly does that benefit the average person? But i will concede that the US is the number 1 military power in the world.

i dunno im kinda proud, because while my country may be a craphole... my country can beatup your country :P

Its kinda like stephen hawking vs Brock lesnar... sure hawking is far more intelligent... and a ridiculously better human being all around that has contributed infinitely more to society.... but for some completely ridiculous reason i take pride in the fact that my dad can beatup your dad :P

EDIT: so basically its the only thing we got going.

[QUOTE="SoBaus"]

[QUOTE="kuraimen"] There are countries and places in this world where the gap between rich and poor is not getting wider. It actually keeps itself stable or even gets smaller with time. So a change is possible you just need the political will and the will of the people of course. But as long as americans defend their beloved version of "free market" I don't see that happening there.kuraimen

dudebro free market works, and works awesome. Just wish some of my fellow americans would realize that the free market doesnt work in 100% of scenarios.

then again i dont know where you are from, but if your british.... enjoying paying the $90,000 a night or whatever it is for your stupid useless monarchy honeymoon?

There are different levels of "free". Either way you can't let the whole market regulate itself, it just doesn't work. It becomes a competition on who gets to be more greedier and take away from more people. I support a freer market for small business and a more regulated market for big corporations but not like today. Besides corporations should be obliged to care for society they shouldn't exist just to make money however way they manage to. In that way they should have more social responsibilities. I also support higher taxes, the more you make, the more you give and they should be kept away or in the margin of social services like health, water, electricity, etc.

I'm not british but I still regard the monarchy there as an over-expensive version of a soap opera financed by the people.

I'm from Costa Rica and we have been trying to copy the free market version in the US so I think we are doomed. The gap between rich and poor is already becoming wider and bigger and more complex social problems come with it. But we are dumb like that, as long as we have the latest iPhone4 in hand we don't really care that society falls apart around us.

not different levels of free, just different scenarios where a free market makes sense.

Things like televisions or video game systems, where companies actually make competing products is all good for free market.... but financial services like insurance where all you do is shift money around.... free market does not make sense.... as a government can do the same thing with far less overhead.

its common sense, but common sense isnt always common.

free market = greed... so it basically comes down to which market sectors are benefitted by greed.

what you hear on the net is probably what the person looking at your resume will be thinking.

might be awesome for learning, but i wouldnt expect your degree to hold much weight. There is a reason harvard doesnt have tv commercials.
