Why on earth would MS want to buy EA?

Other than seizing control of Orgin.

What possible benefit would they get from that, other than shitty Star Wars games, shitty Battlefield games, and shitty madden games?

Should someone let the TC, and the author of that article know that consumer BDXL discs and players have been around for years? This isnt some new Sony invention. Theyve been around for almost a decade lol. And they predate the current gen consoles.

I was more surprised that PS4 and Xbox One werent using them when they were announced.

If MS is smart, theyd end this generation on a high note and build good will for their brand before Scarlet launches. If they are cheap opportunists, they will try to front load the Scarlet launch and leave us all scratching our heads as to whether they have bolstered quality control as a publisher until after the fact.

I've never been a fan of that kind of narrative that focusing on the new platform, instead of wasting your political capital keep the dying console thats on its way out on life support, or else the fans will abandon them. That goes for either side. I didnt believe it when people said it about the Wii U, and now the Nintendo Switch is poised to be the fastest selling platform of all time. I also didnt believe people who said that releasing mid-gen updates to the PS4/XBone would "piss off the fans" either.

I dont think the fans had any trouble understanding, and moving on quickly from the Wii U.

We live in a world of "what are you doing for me RIGHT NOW", and the only thing that matters is whether you are winning or losing RIGHT NOW.

KillZone needs the God of War treatment. Let it cool down a bit then reinvent it and do it big.

Killzone would have to have ever been "hot" for it to "cool down".

While I do think Microsoft should swing their dick around at least once or twice, and do something crazy, like CD Project Red, or Insomniac (for the lolz), I think first things first they should focus on talent retention, and focus on snapping up 2nd party developers that they already have a close rapport with.

For instance, I think that buying Playground Games, and investing in and bolstering that studio's posture the way they've done was a very good idea.

However, Letting talented studios like Remedy, for example, slip away from them, was a bad idea.

I dont think Microsoft investing in, say, Remedy, Crytek, or Studio MDHR, would be controversial acquisitions at all. I'll go a step further (and I know im going to rustle jimmies here) and say that I wouldnt even consider buying Creative Assembly (who has already worked on Microsoft exclusive franchises) from sega, to be a far fetched purchase.

I dont want them to just buy up studios for the sake of buying studios, if it isnt beneficial to the brands identity. They should focus on those close to them, and strengthen their own identity.

@StrongDeadlift: they stopped doing bc no one cared enough. Or at the time was to expensive for the technology around.

The 360 wasn’t fully BC it only worked with some games.

It only became a selling point when MS became more consumer friendly along with that BC was one of those things and all of a sudden everyone wanted it again.

Now Sony sees more people want it so they’re implementing it again.

No biggy.

They stopped doing BC because they wanted people to keep buying PS2s, at a very large profit margin. There is a reason the PS2 was able to chart as high as it did on charts all the way into 2012.

If I were selling PS2s at an $80 profit margin vs a PS3 selling at a $260 loss each unit sold..........I would want people to need to keep buying PS2s too.

Expected

They seem to be copying everything else off Xbox, might as well copy this too

Funny, back when the PS3 had BC with the PS1 and PS2, ya'll HATED it.

Why would lems have "HATED" something that both the 360 and the Wii had? :?

Something Sony was also the first to begin the trend of not including?

You didnt think this one through.

Halo 5 Forge is already on PC, and has been for a while.

The original packaging came out before that version of the game was released. This is an update of the packaging to reflect that, nothing more.
