SOMA .
IMO the "from 2015" hint was unnecessary.

@Kjranu: They cancelled Surface? It's one of the most successful tablets on the market.
No, I was making a retort to your comment about Microsoft not supporting unprofitable businesses. The Surface was a disaster during its first year because they made too many Surfaces and had to take a huge write-off. The Windows Phone business continues to be disastrous, but they still support it. Xbox was also very unprofitable but they continued to support it as well. Lionhead, however, had no future and really was only a matter of time before they went extinct like the Zune. They never produced a hit like Halo or Gears of War. Fable was a decrepit IP that had a minuscule following compared to other popular IPs.
Lets be honest, the Surface has NEVER been the problem, its always been one of the best tablets (hardware wise) on the market. The problem with Surface was that it was married to an at the time immature OS for smart devices. All of the hate for Surface was really hate for Windows RT, or more broadly, Windows 8.
Real weird if it was like 90% done. Who just outright cancels a game at that late of a stage, even if it's a loser?
In retrospect, they should have never gone F2P, as I guess they figured the F2P requires too much "maintenance" and upkeep. They should have just let it be a more traditional release, if it failed... THEN close the studio for financial reasons. Otherwise, it makes no sense for a company "swimming in cash" to not even let the game come out just to have the advantage of being able to fire people a few months earlier.
Last game I remember doing something like this was NBA Elite (which was EA's planned replacement of NBA Live) like 6 years ago.
If I remember correctly, the game was already gold, and EA was promoting it in the press all the way. Then they canceled it like 3 weeks from launch, and scrapped it.
Before anyone goes on a rant about my personal bias, I've been saying for some time that this could be a rebuilding generation for XBox and that they have an opportunity to grow their IP by opening studios.
Closing studios is going right back in the wrong direction. This isn't bad, this is seriously bad if you are a fan of XBox at all.
They're just "trimming the fat" like Sony was doing when they closed/cut ties/consolidated Ready At Dawn, Superbot Games, Lightbox Interactive, Incognito, EatSleepPlay, Zipper, Cambridge, BigBigStudios, and SCE London Studios in the past 5 years bruh.
Care to tell the audience how many more studios Sony has than Microsoft?
according to wikipedia (which is updated already to not include lionhead and press play) MS has 19 1st party game dev studios and sony has 18 first party game dev studios.
Not sure why he's bragging about the number of studios Sony has, whilst arguing with someone making a point against a bloated first party that mostly produces nothing of value outside of the core A-B studios, and I just listed 10 1st/2nd party studios Sony either closed down or otherwise told them to **** off after their games (that Sony underfunded, underbaked, and then sent out to die with no marketing) flopped.
Hell, as recently as November 2014, there were rumors floating around that Sony was close to an acquisition deal with Ready At Dawn. A studio that has ONLY worked on Sony exclusives, and was founded by former NaughtyDog (and blizzard) employees. 3 months and one flop later, Sony couldn't tell them fast enough to go **** themselves.
Also, Just think about the fact that if it were within Sony's power to do so, Insomniac probably wouldn't even exist right now.

Good guy Phil cancelling more games and shutting down more studios. Now for the shills to continue to brag about how much money M$ as a whole have and pretend the Xbox division has access to the warchest when they just fired a ton of people.
You should list off all the 1st/2nd party studios that Sony has closed down or severed ties with over the last 5 years or so and Let us know when you run out of fingers on both hands to count. Lets not play this game.
This is great news. Respectable hardware revisions/upgrades in simple packages. I have always wanted some kind of classification or tier system for PC in order to make purchasing easier for people that are not familiar with hardware. I have also wanted Xbox to be a simple option PC and release all the games on PC platform. I love where MS is going with this unified Windows 10 initiative. :)
I may have to stop making fun of the weakass hardware in the consoles now.
Well, consoles will still be behind the highest end PC rigs, but at least with this model they won't be way behind years down the road.
My guess is Microsoft is waiting for 14nm before releasing an improved XB1. They will most likely introduce this new hardware approach with the inevitable slim model. So, I would expect a release in 2017 for Super XB1. The Super XB1 will probably be capable of 2.5 - 3.0 Tflops.
This. I dont believe this move is intended to disrupt the cycle of generations. This is not going to be an Xbox Two, but an Xbox 1.5 just to hold people over until next gen, who were burned by the power differential between XB1/PS4 (and also to maintain current momentum when Nintendo announces the NX).
This is HUGE news. So XB1 will be more powerful then the PS4 & probably the NX to & PS4 will be the weakest console out there then lol Sony fanboys will be on forums all day long lol
Sure. And you only need to buy a second X1 to achieve it lol.
Xbox One is not the status quo console, so most people who have even a passing interest in one, probably do not have one. Alot of people who either went with PS4, or couldnt justify the Xbox One's cost/benefit to themselves, or otherwise wrote the system off will take a second thought they otherwise wouldn't have, at the idea of jumping in.
And if the PS3 is a metric to go by, if the new model arrives this year, the vast majority of people who will EVER own the system will own the newer version. Just as the number of people who ever experienced the fat PS3 was a minority.
Lol @ cows getting legitimately nervous ITT about seeing their power advantage dissapear possibly this year.
At the expense of annual hardware revisions no one but a really hardcore few will buy? Don't think anyone cares.
Im rereading your post, and I dont think you understand the implication here. A new model with a hardware bump would replace the old one. Like the Slim PS3 and 360s replaced the vanilla versions of those consoles. The same games working on both platforms but at a higher resolution/framerate is all software.
