Ah, no problem for developers, they'll just cut out some important parts of the game and sell them back for $5, $10, $15, etc. as day 1 DLC. They probably won't even need to block used games with that model.

Yo Gamespot, where's the "constant online connection requirement" question??? You also missed an important question about the VITA...i.e. do you have to buy the game twice to be able to transfer it between the VITA/PS4? If you only have to buy one game to play it on two systems, Sony would have my attention. Somehow I think greed will damp the huge avantage Sony could gain with that concept.

As speculated, the PS4 will block used games. I like how he avoided the question by saying physical copies should be playable on any hardware. That's like a politian claiming he's not raising taxes, when he's raises taxes. You can play used games...well for a fee. Sadly, I expect more of the same from MS.

As others have said, if you want to win the next console generation MS...all you have to do, is drop the constant online connection, have backwards compatibility and do nothing to prohibit (or charge extra for) used games. If you listen to EA, Activision and Ubisobt about the used game thing...well you'll have a hard time overcoming the VITA thing. While continuing games on the VITA would be a nice feature, my guess is Sony will muck that up enough that if you do the other things...they might not correct their errors with the VITA tie-in in time to catch up in the next gen. console wars.

If they come out with a system to play old games in say 2-3 years, many early adopters will repurchase the system, hence increasing console sales.

TVs aren't designed to have 50 different consoles hooked up to them. Being able to play old games on a new system, allows you to jettison the old system. Just because the games were from a previous generation doesn't mean we want to stop playing them, or for that matter pay to repurchase them.

QUESTION: It's been rumoured that the PS4 can stream PS3 games, so why can't it play PS3 games from a disk?

The Kinect is superior to Sony's Move or Nintendos motion controllers. It's even better when you think you don't have to buy specialty equipment to play a motion application. However, Fruit Ninja and Gunstringer aren't compelling enough to make me want to ditch controller based games, so what's the point of getting a Kinect?

It is possible that the next generation could go over like a lead balloon. Personally, I hope it happens because Sony, MS and Nintendo really have lost focus on what the gamer wants. They are listening too heavily to the words of fat cat publishers like EA, Activision, Ubisoft, etc who say it's us who makes the money for you console makers. Developers are going out of business left and right and most published games have that same (COD-like) feel to them.

Still the people who play COD, are the ones that will probably keep pushing gaming down into the black hole it's sinking into. Why? People who play COD type of games won't stop buying. They already spend top dollar for new game purchases, they buy all the crappy DLC offerred, they pay for online connectivity, they buy whatever controller gives them an edge. People who play COD won't care about constant on-line connections, DLC, game prices, new console prices, the used game market. COD and clone games get at least 5M people to keep paying to play. Until you disenfranchise that crowd, nothing good will come to the gaming community.

So they can justify charging you $50+ for requiring you to buy a new controller you don't really need.

It's not often you say by reading the written word that this guy is "lying through his teeth." First, he has to know if the games are backwards compatible, EA and its developers already have the dev. kits for the new systems. Second, EA loving used game sales...seriously?!?! They cut out big chunks of games and sell them back piecement via DLC. They rarely put the DLC on sale and they won't sell you the DLC if someone already redeemed it for the "used" game you purchased. All PC game sales through EA require an origin account, so you know they want to block used games on consoles as well.

Customers who play online games want an internet connection, but those who play single player games don't want to always be forced to be online to play. For example I don't want to be forced to play D3 with a constant online connection. I want to play games where there is no internet.
