@Pre_ordered_PS4 @Afonsop You can take casuals off that list. Casual gamers are still gamers. I'm a casual *gamer*, which means I'll be passing on the SmartGlass-enabled, Kinect-powered cable box, and continue playing games on my XBox 360 and PS3 (I would include the Wii there, but my Wii is basically a dust-catcher).
@Double-Ego @Vuyolicious No, but you have to kind of read between the lines. Obviously, you'll need an active internet connection to do most of things the X1 is supposed to be capable of -- as a TV tuner. As far as games, well, MS has been trying to cram cloud storage down our throats; obviously an active connection will be needed if your games are saved on the cloud. In other statements MS has made recently, they've stated that an always-on internet connection is not specifically required, but that *some* games may need to be able to access the internet (or the cloud). Also, you'll most likely need to be connected when you first put a game disc in, so the X1 can phone home and see if it's a previously-used game, before allowing you to play.
@AoEKiller Not really much of a surprise, though, is it? Look at how Microsoft traditionally does things: They start out with an application (or hardware) intended to do one thing, and try to make it do that one thing better than other similar products. Then they start adding more features with each iteration, until the app (or hardware) becomes the equivalent of a Swiss Army knife -- in other words, it can do all kinds of unrelated things that, individually, can be done better by just having the proper tools.
I mean, it's something that all tech companies do, to some extent, but Microsoft feels the need to have anything they make capable of doing anything that anyone might possibly want to do.
@bledsoe45sbc @obsequies Most likely, the game discs will have some sort of serial number, which is attached to your gamertag the first time you play it. If someone else tries to use the disc, they will be prompted to pay a fee before they're allowed to play.
