Imagine starting a BR match like usual, skydiving to the surface, finding gear (or starting with some default gear) and surviving for a few rounds. the safe zone keeps shrinking, the number of other players is shrinking, and you're doing pretty well. with only 10 people left, you get ambushed and eliminated.
BUT instead of queuing up for a brand new match, the game re-spawns you into another match ALREADY IN PROGRESS plus 10 more players. This match in progress is down to 20 people left, that's the penalty for re-spawning. Or if you were eliminated earlier on, with say 40 people left, you get shifted to a match already in progress but still 50 players. and so on.
The worst case scenario is that you are one of the first 10 players eliminated, which means you technically "start over" by joining a brand new, 100 player match from the beginning.
I love the load-out idea. Scavenge for shields and health, but spawn with pre-chosen load-outs. or fully embrace the "hero shooter" idea and make certain weapons/abilities tied to specific characters or classes.
Even before BR games really became popular, I've always had this fantasy of one giant map that contained numerous smaller PvP matches, but can allow players to leave the "boundaries" of their chosen match to engage in other matches. Less chaotic, of course, by making the winning conditions that ability to "move on" to the next "objective" while the losers have to fall back and re-claim a victory in a different "match." but all on the same map. Kind of like how the zombie areas work in Blackout.
I have one other awesome idea for BR games but I'll post that separately. :)
Not to disparage the enthusiasm, but I interpreted Phil's comments to mostly be referring to the "bold" move of unveiling the System X at the Video Game Awards show. And that's all.
@sparent180: I agree. I suspect that there will be very minor differences, if any, this generation.
If anything, I believe Microsoft has more "cushion" to push out a slightly more powerful console at the same price as the PS5, as their company makes more money overall than Sony. But we'll have to wait to see!
Sounds great. the car video especially sounds great in stereo.
Stuff like this in sci-fi universes cracks me up, though. far, far in the future, with faster than light speed space travel at our disposal, and we're still using pistols and shotguns. lol
