[QUOTE="The_Streets"]Just to show that I am not biased in this debate, i will say this. While I have never actually played Metroid Prime, it does sound like a corker of a game. I would never buy a Nintendo machine again after I got burned with my N64 experience, but should i ever come across a friend that has a Cube and MP, I'd be willing to give it a go, yes I wouldKiron22N64 was so adult it was'nt funny like 99% of its games in the first 2 years were M or MA. do you also forget Conkers?. The N64 was the biggest pile of tosh. It had about 3 new releases every month. I used to sit in utter jealousy of my cool new PlayStation mates. They were playing cinematic wonders like Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy. They were racing cool games like Ridge racer, Wipeout and Gran Turismo. They were fighting with the likes of Tekken and Soul Blade. All while I was watching cr@p like Pokemon Snap and Kirby's Air Ride! I vowed NEVER to buy a Nintendo machine again. Now, I'm a happy Xbox owner. It may not be as popular as the PlayStation 2 but at least it still gives me the same kind of games as PlayStation. Cinematic delights like Halo, Splinter Cell and Knights. Racing like PGR, Forza and Moto GP: URT. Sports like Pro Evolution Soccer and Top Spin. I love the Xbox and will be getting Xbox 360. I may get a PS3 someday. I won't even look at the Revolution

[QUOTE="The_Streets"]There's nothing better than coming home from the game store with a really powerful game in your hands. Knowing that Halo 2 is about to take you on an intergalactic journey of aliens, warfare and survival. Max Payne's grim story of revenge and its corruptive powers. Final Fantasy's epic tales of kingdoms, science and confrontation. It is these products of the PlayStation era of gaming that have spawned a worldwide market of 100+ million gamers, not the likes of Super Mario Bros or The Legend Of Zelda: A link To The Past. People often credit Nintendo with the popularity of games today. i say that it was Sony that took the ball and ran with it. They brought interactive movies to gaming, with the likes of Resident Evil, Tomb raider and Metal gear Solidand I'm afraid that Nintendo's games just don't cut it anymoreTheMouth
And exactly 0 of those games were made by Sony. Great point!
I said SPAWNED from the PSone mate! That means, Sony came along and brought NEW customers to the industry by actively encouraging third party developers to develop mature titles with FMV, fleshed out story and depth[QUOTE="The_Streets"]Can i just say one more thing please? Nintendo defenders often say "cute graphics don't automaticaly equal kiddy". I agree. i love the Toy Story films. Which is just the point. Maybe if Nintendo aspired to the level of Toy Story, games like mario might actually start being interesting. Why not give a Mario game a PLOT. With characters. and levels that have specific relevance to the story. And that are completed in a specific order. If nintendo made a toy story style Mario game, it would be SO much more appealing to people like me. After all, they gave Zelda: Oot an epic plot and look how it turned out. Zelda isn't gorey. It's like an old English fairytale. But its story of knights and magic and artifcats and evil and heroes and quaint towns is just so CAPTIVATING. It's one of the most beautiful games that I have ever played. Make more games like this and nintendo will appeal to people like me. I dont like collecting power Stars just, just 'because'. It's the 'rules' of the 'game'. It's how you win. Give me more than just a game. Give me an interactive Pixar movie with the next Mario and then we'll see how popular it turns out to be.....TheMouth
Play the Mario and Luigi RPG's if you want a great/hillarious story. I think a big fleshed out plot/story would be bizarre in a Mario platformer.
Why? Can no-one else not see how a really good Pixar-style story would benefit a Mario game? It would feature all the main characters: Mario, Luigi, Princess Daisy/Toadstool, that dinosaur thing, that mushroom guy.... Now, I wouldn't necessarily be all THAT interested in it, but hey, it's better than collecting 120 power stars just because. i get bored after I have two of them. What's my incentive to keep going if there's no story?he directly contradicts the title with his post, saying that nintendos gameplay is a myth, but then he admits to it being good as well showing himself to be immature.louislegrosNo I don't. What I menat is this. Everytime you criticise Nintendo games for being kiddy, Ninty fans say "grow up, it's not all about blood and gore. Nintendo games are all about gameplay". THEY SAY THIS AS IF YOU CAN'T FIND GAMES WITH GOOD GAMEPLAY ON THE XBOX OR THE PS2. That's what i mean about 'myth'. This great assumption that only Nintendo focus on gameplay and the rest just focus on the blood count

If you're referring to gTA, I actually hate those games because they have no story. They're more sandpit games, do what you like. Very little story, very little structure, very little characterisation. So that blows your post right out of the waterFirst of all, I never knew Forza Motorsport even had a storyline :|
Second of all, you're a joke. Yes, those games have awesome gameplay, and so do nintendo games. but by your logic, Nintendo games are worse because of t3h kiddy!!!111 :oJesus christ, if you need to increase your pre-teen masculinity that bad than be my guest, I'll be playing games like Twilight Princess that you'll be missing out on because you're running around capping hookers.

Than you must hate Forza Motorsport because it has no story and you must hate Ninja Gaiden because of its weak story. :|
Forza is a racing game, it doesn't need a story. As for NG, it's one of those rare games that I do actually like just for the gameplay. the story is woeful but i just enjoy the beat em up actionI hate this whole Nintendo and gameplay myth. Does Halo not have good gameplay? Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory? Star Wars: Knights of the old Republic? Forza Motorsport? Ninja Gaiden? Do you know what the big difference is? As well as having outstanding gameplay mechanics, they also have mature storylines <-- what you said in your original post :|
Read my post history and you'll see that my refernce to forza was with regards to its sim qualities, as opposed to Nintys Mario kart and Diddy Kong racing rubbish. As for NG, I admit. That's a rare exception to the rule. I normally don't play games that have such poor storylinesmario kart is not meant to be a sim. Mario Kart and Forza Motorsport are as far apart as can be when it comes to the racing genre.
But whatever, I don't feel like arguing with you over such a stupid point. If you don't like to play video games that have poor storylines, than don't, I don't see this as something worth arguing about.
Exactly. Ninty don't make serious games. That was why i mentioned forza, to illustrate that point[QUOTE="The_Streets"][QUOTE="DarkPhoenix64"][QUOTE="The_Streets"]Can i just say one more thing please? You manners are respectable, i'll stop bashing you now. One thing though. you are just targetting one single game. Mario 64 is one of the best games ever made. Nobody can deny that. Calling it garbage is sheer ignorance. The story may have not been the best, and maybe that is what you are targetting, but mario wasn't about the Immersive story. What won every1 over was the absolutely fantastic gameplay.
Mario games aren't played for the storyline anyway. I'm getting the impression that you are targetting mario games only, and generalising it to all nintendo games. That is where your arguement breaksdown i think. If you want to play a game with a really good storyline then play something else, mario isn't for you. There are plenty of other games out there. Maybe no for the GC because of its lack of games, but the ones that are there are good e.g MP1&2, zelda WW/TP, splinter cell series, tales of symphonia, baten kaitos, paper mario, resident evil 4. all great games with great storylines.
Mario should stay as it is. Mario is not about being a secret agent, or going all kung fu and taking revenge on an enemy being he as dishonoured your family by throwing a custard pie at luigi. Mario is mario, a funny guy who every1 knows and loves, and he is there purely for gameplay.
I disagree with your last point about Mario. I think a Toy Story or Incredibles style makeoevr would do him the world of good. You play his games, you collect some stars and then eventually it's like *yawn*. There's no incentive to keep going. Once you've seen one star, you've seen em all. With games like halo, on the other hand, I feel compelled to keep playing because I just HAVE to see what happens next in the story. Mario could give us a really good Pixar style interactive cartoon. Now that would be interesitngI don't understand why everyone liked Halo's story. i barely even noticed it when i was playing it.
IDifferent people enjoy different things but what we all must remember is that Halo's story is obviously good enough for a multi-million dollar film to be made out of it. By fox and Universal no less. That's how good it is[QUOTE="The_Streets"][QUOTE="TargetDog"][QUOTE="The_Streets"][QUOTE="TargetDog"]Em, I'm 21. And what's this about capping hookers?
