The pop-ins don't sound appealing but how is the frame rate? That is one area that might be a deal breaker for me. On the other hand, I was able to enjoy KOTOR on a graphics card that for whatever reason hated the game and refused to give me a stable frame rate. For me an RPG lives or dies by the interaction between your character and the game world. If it has lots of interesting NPCs and environments to explore I could overlook just about any flaw.
No doubt. People are expecting too much from the game and it would have to be better then perfect for some people to not be disappointed. As the hours tick down until I get my copy I hope I'm not one of those people and have set realistic expectations for it. I was hugely disappointed with Halo 3 when I first played it and I hope I have learnt from that lesson to not set my expectations too high.
No. I make use of my consoles whenever i can and there is no better use for consoles then fighting games. I also play sports and racing games on consoles more often then PC. The other genres i don't care about and I hate action games, or at least the vast majority of hack and slash types with annoying puzles i have played.
Spaceforce: Rogue Universe. I just enjoy flying around exploring the galaxy and upgrading my ship. This game does that better then any other that I have played in years. I'm getting Mass Effect in a few hours so this might change but probably not. I still don't know what to expect from the game, KOTOR is one of my favorites of all time and I hope that translates into me enjoying Mass Effect.
Halo Wars. Ensemble made ones of the best selling PC games with Age of Empires 2. Add them and the Halo brand name together and you get a mega hit. I know you might say RTS and consoles don't mix but that was the exact thing people said about FPS and consoles before Halo. Goldeneye and PD were considered exceptions to the rule and so was Halo for a long while but attitudes towards console FPS have definitely changed since the start of last generation. The same could happen with RTS.
