and blue-ray is an advantage not a disadvantage...so yes its great the ps3 has blue-ray so developers don't have to worry about whether or not there games can fit and focus on other important things....lol..FIREBURNER21

Yes it is. It made the PS3 cost $600 and that lead to poor sales which lead to developers not considering it profitable to spend the time and money needed to make quality games. Or if they were already too commited they are delaying their games until it can build a larger userbase. Cause and effect.

It will depend on your definition of major. Don't expect to see anything like Crysis on consoles, they simply don't have the tech regardless of how well you optimise it. The CPUs in the 360 and PS3 could handle crysis at high levels of detail but the RAM and GPUs will forever prevent them from doing it. My definition of a major advance would be UT2004 to UT3, so as I said it depends on your definition of major. So far i would describe the advances made on PS3 since launch as insignificant or small, not major.

I guess it depends on what their definition of major is. The GPU tech is pretty old (2005 tech) and I can't see too many advances being made there after 2008. Advances in programing games for multi-thread CPUs will be made but with other limiting factors I'm not sure how much improvements it will bring to graphics quality. Both for the 360 and PS3.

Who cares when it has the best console games? The PC has had the same controls for over 20 years and it's even beating out the 360 when it comes to quality games. New games of high quality > new controls.

As for drawing comparisons to this generation, as far as sales go it's nothing like last gen. The DC never outsold the PS2 4:1 and it certainly didn't constantly outsell the PS2 like 360 has outsold the PS3 according to NPD sales data. Soul Calibur was a great game and got good reviews but even low profile 360 games have sold more copies. Mega hits like Gears and Halo 3 sold many times more then the best selling DC game.

Then there is the Wii to take into account, nothing launched at the same time as the PS2 and the Wii is doing better then the Xbox and GC combined. Why do sales matter? Well with high development costs on the PS3 it's going to need to sell a lot of units for it to be profitable for developers to spend time making quality games for it. I would say the PS3s future looks very bleak compared to how the PS2 looked one year after launch.

I bought it when GT3 came out, so I didn't wait for long. 6 months or so?

True but I could see myself enjoying COD 4 and Oblivion a lot more then the AAA games on Wii. Personal preference I guess and the 360 has the most games that appeal to me by far, since the PS3 shares some one those games it would be my next choice. I'm too much of a graphics whore for Wii, hey at least I'm honest about it :)

It can but it depends on the game and the person playing. I'm still playing both NWN and Freelancer today because of online. I enjoy the social aspect. With genres like FPS, sports, fighting and racing it's the competitive aspect that appeals to people and social but probably to a lesser extent then more open ended type games where you mainly battle NPCs.

Even 30 hours is shorter than I expected. The way I play these type of games it will probably take me 60 if it takes the average person 30. I enjoy exploration and talking to NPCs :)
