In my day you'd be pretty f**king excited to make a metric s**tload of money for playing football AND being honoured in a game. Then again, I practice an ancient tradition called modesty.
Seriously, everyone acts like its all about being the richest guy that no one knows.
Edit: Oh wait, college athletes. That crap is slavery, I'd be pissed too.
@TheGamerPhenom @Trodmacgil I foresee a lot of new players having a horrendous time getting into the hundreds of games listed as "No Noobs". I think it was too early to announce a feature like this with as little explanation as was given. I'm starting to think that microsoft is doing their market research through marketing.
@SoreBastard I'm confused, you ask for examples and then give examples. Halo has always had a huge competitive multilayer base. If you look at the daily stats from Steam (so we are talking exclusively PC here) you can see that, at peak today, over 30,000 players (36,972 as of 4pm EST) have logged into Counter Strike. Black-ops 2 has seen 20,021as of 4pm EST. Actually, because I like this fact, Team Fortress 2 has been blowing both BO2 and MW3 combined out of the water. Source: http://store.steampowered.com/stats/
Console will be different, but I'll bet that CoD, though it may be near the top, is not the most favoured competitive multiplayer on the market. Not even in the genre.
This is getting too easy, fan boys and girls are trying too hard, and I'm far too lazy, so, here's my definitive statement concerning the franchise:
Call of Duty has been run about six feet into the ground, thus, I think it's more of an addiction or some small measure of comfort for a metathesiophobic person than a new experience. I think it's time to direct the talent and resources being wasted on this series at a new project.
Then there's the money it's making, and nothing else matters...
