@Don_Mattrick I like Johnny, actually. I've seen a lot of comments that say they want him replaced, but I disagree. His intentional cheesiness makes Feedbackula, Feedbackula for me. Now that I think of it, where are all the "In the navy!" and "Toast is good!" commercials inbetween. Need more cheesiness!
@jecomans Yep, so way too big expectations it is! And oh, does Square Enix love them some cutscenes... Long, beautiful cutscenes. We all love pretty graphics, but yeah sometimes some stuff feels way out of touch.
Hoping the best for the next Tomb Raider though! Lara deserves it.
@jecomans Hmm yeah, they seem to have very high expectations. Maybe that was warranted in the past, but nowadays we have a lot more games to choose from. As for the budget, well maybe their budget wouldn't need so many sales to cover the cost if they didn't spend a significant part of their money on the beauty of their games. I mean, they look amazing, but I feel like they're focusing so much on the aesthetics (hope I spelled that correctly..) and not enough on the rest sometimes.
@Tuckpoint @James00715 Yes, unfortunately it does... Why be civil when you think you can get away with it, I suppose... Though I recall people similar to this have actually been arrested. *hopeful*
@Cpt-Fair I disagree, I loved FF13...the first one. The sequels are just meh, though. They need to stop pumping those out. I will say, though, that a lot of their fans didn't appreciate FF13-1 and I do understand why. Just wanted to let you know that at the same time, a lot of us did like it. :)
I have no knowledge of videogame marketing and I don't think I'm affected by them much, because I almost never see videogame commercials and the like over here.
It seems a little heavy handed to just pin it on that, though. There's far more at work here. Excluding the worldwide recession, which would make people buy less games overall, games are just different nowadays. It's harder to stand out.
I also read that article on the "disppointing" sales of those 3 wonderful games. I really feel like that what the figures they got were great. Maybe you shouldn't have astronomical expectations worked into your company's budget next time or something. Like I said, it's harder to make your game stand out nowadays because there are so many more being marketed.
They've also made some bad decisions involving their flagship Final Fantasy series in my opinion.
I loved FF13, but all these sequels are really not doing it for me. It feels like milking the universe. Then there's the obvious FF14 disaster, which I hope will be redeemed by the re-release. FF15 is something I'm still on the fence about, since that game is essentially a spin-off FF moved to a the position of a main title, and I dislike that. Not that the spin-offs weren't good, they seem fine to me, but they're so different.
I feel like in trying to do something new, they're alienating a lot of the fans and while I know this can be neccessary, I feel sad about that. Sometimes playing to your strengths isn't all that bad...
Another thing about recent FFs is that the storytelling hasn't been as good. Like i said, I loved FF13 and I loved the story, but the writing was just so out there. I don't know how to describe it in a different way. So much of it is symbolic, and that's fine. But at some point their stories go from epic to completely out of touch with reality, it's hard for me to describe.
