[QUOTE="fidosim"]I think the differences in the number of bills passed could partially be attributed to the fact that Boehner has been Speaker for like 6 months and Pelosi was Speaker for like 4 years. And dealing with Progressive and Blue Dog Democrats while controlling both houses and the presidency is a bit different from only controlling 1/3 of the government. But what do I know? Nothing.fidosim

I only quoted numbers from 111th, only TWO years. If Boehner had any legislative muscle he'd havemany moreLaws passedby now. You bring up the fact that they only control a third of government, well what about the record filibustering carried on in the Senate by the Republicans? If they didn't exert considerable control over that portion of government then what do I know? Hmm...

OK, but 2 years still =/= 6 months, and the filibuster is not tantamount to controlling the entire government.

Right, right. Even still on the current track Boehner will only pass a jaw-dropping 48 bills by the end of term. That's laughable.

And on the Filibuster: I specifically used "considerable" and not "complete". It's what made the"GnOPe" Strategy work so well.

[QUOTE="Ace6301"]Well you don't dance around trying to say you're not bias like some people here. Points for that I suppose.Ace6301

Well, I don't have a problem with all Democrats, I like SOME of them. Like the bluedogs.

God that makes my heart hurt because it's so damn true

[QUOTE="QuistisTrepe_"]Let's study the history of all House Speakers. Nah, that would be too much work, let's just call Bohener the worst, it makes one sound so cool, knowledgeable and rebellious.scorch-62
I see someone stopped reading at "worst Speaker."

Thanks for beating me to it.

Eh, I don't know. I want to turn the TV off everytime I see or hear Pelosi.

airshocker

Regardless of how you felt about Pelosi she is a categorically powerful leader. You may be able to keep the TV on everytime you see or hear Boehner, but I doubt much will be getting done.

I think that is the fault of his seemingly week demeanor (the crying and whatnot). If it were Cantor running the show (as much as I dislike that cretin) I doubt he'd be having this much trouble getting the debt ceiling passed.

It's not that I'm opposed to his ideology (I'm am, but that aside), but he has got to be the worst cat herders even to wield the gavel. He's only passed like12 bills. Twelve bills since the 112th started. Pelosi had to deal with 54 Blue Dogs and 80 Progressivesin the 111thand yetshe successfully passed a whooping 254 Laws. That's leadership plain and simple. Boehner has241Republicans in the House. What has he done for the country?

Boehner has no chance to keep his job as Speaker, whether it be Pelosi and the Democrats thundering back into power or his fellow Republicans Cantor or Jordan stabbing him in the back.

There arent words anymore for the state that the new House Republicans have put the government in. Its completely ridiculous that there should be so much argument over something as necessary as the debt ceiling. This is something that needs to be raised, when its time. These new republicans are just hijacking it to get their ideological goals on the fast track. Even when they have basically won, they still refuse to compromise in the slightest. its pathetic. I think it would be cool for the President to just invoke the 14th amendment and tell these guys off, but I dont think that that would be a good way for him to gain votes come next year. Then again, if it ends up really hurting our nation like the economists say, not doing it could hurt him too...Feel sorry for the guy. At the end of the day, the voters will put the blame on his shoulders even though it was manufactured by the new republicans.wolverine4262

Well alot of people by this point, but this isn't your grandfather's Republican party.

The Establishment can't successfully control their wing and they know that working with the Democrats who are solidly Progressive thanks to all the Dogs falling in 2010 will cost them ALL of their single-issue their base supporters (Anti-Choice, Christianists, Anti-Gun Control, Anti-Gay, etc) while leaving them with only the Business Elites to rely on. I just can't wait untilthe Tea Party supporters try to split from the Republicans and form a third party. They're anarchists, plain and simple.

BTW, a lot of poeple would want to blame Repblicans as richs are affected the least. Just so you know, Obama is democrates. And congress was dominated by democrates until the previous elections. Democrates still runs the goverment, at least Obama is still democrates right now.

magicalclick

Um...what is your point? The Democrats don't just "run" the government by themselves.

You can keep using Republicans as scapegoat, but, they are not the only one to blame. I learned the hard way when Prop8 voted in majority in CA, a supposedly major Democrate state. Want me to blame that less than 40% of Republicans, doesn't make sense to me anymore.

I said nothing about Republicans, only the conservatives. And really speaking, when these vulnerable citizens had their wealth obliterated and the least vulnerable got by with cuts and scapes, what were conservatives calling for? Save Wall Street! Protect/increase tax cuts (that most heavily benefit those that don't need them)! Let the Auto giants fail (which would have further obliterated good paying jobs for middle class citizens)! Etc...
