@Kelreynn: Wasteland 2 was so good (once you got into it). It was like a proper fallout game

Hi Unions, meet Globalisation. Globalisation-- Oh geeze, Globalisation, can you stop kicking the crap out of unions? I'm trying to introduce you.

Or: the reality of a global marketplace means that if the American voice acting market wants to price themselves out of the game, there are plenty of alternatives (and English speaking alternatives too!) Unions are a relic of the 19th century and only serve to prop up the narrow self-interest of its constituents by making conditions as poor as possible for those outside of the union.

Crush it an the unions get set back, don't crush it and the Canadian market suddenly gets flooded with business for voiceovers. It's really a win/win for me.

Courtney Taylor literally says nothing at all, emotes a bit.

I love (read:hate) the comparison between Warren Spector's and Bethes "We going to cut out features, because we think you're too dumb to handle them" da's approaches to voiced protagonists.

JC Denton was a character who spoke in a monotone because they didn't know how players would feel about decisions.

Fallout 4 is voiced because players aren't responsible enough to feel the right way about their story moments. Bethesda's motto should be "Give me the controller; you're doing it wrong." And they have the gall to say that no-one else shows the same respect for the audience. This is true, I suppose, no-one else shows this level of contempt for their audience.

@mirage_so3: Okay, so is my friend of four years, who I studied with but now works out of Singapore, good for me or not? I mean, she's not a friend from the internet, but I only can keep in touch with her with the internet.

As we mature as a digital society, the line between "online" and "offline" becomes increasingly blurred.

@creepingdeath18: Unlike a lot of articles, Lucy actually gave us her sources. She didn't pimp out World of Wargaming. She didn't tell us her opinion. She told us what scientists wrote in their reports. Now you might suggest that Nicholas Taylor et al. are full of shit or that the Journal of Computer Mediated Communications are a mouthpeace for big World War II sims, but as Lucy didn't do much other than the narration and video editing, you can hardly accuse her of being a propaganda mouthpiece.

@loafofgame: I think you are mistaken. They wouldn't talk about the "real" you, if it was just meeting new people.

I think anonymity is a valid term here. Anonymity is the act of being unrecognised and unknown, but that is really the act of being unconnected to social networks in which you hold responsibilities. Lucy or the report may not have explicitly mentioned the word, but you have to admit that they are not unrelated concepts to those that were conveyed. The idea, correct me if I'm wrong, was that interacting in social networks with friendly strangers through MMOs, we have the possibility to engage with them more freely, not having the constraints of prior relationships.

This is a point I find contentious and cast dispersions on the legitimacy of the statement. If the MMOs and the relative anonymity of MMOs is almost a non-factor and the deciding factor is actually, as you said, comfort with your peers, then talking about MMOs as holding this benefit becomes disingenuous.

@AzureBonds76: Man, for someone who seems to hate gamers, it's kind of ironic that you're here with us on gamespot.

@R-tofen: Clearly, that's why you can behave like an sociopath who thinks he doesn't need manners because "they get paid for this shit".
