on another note, yesterday was probably the greatest video gaming day in my life (and in recorded history of anybody), let's just say that it involved Guitar Hero 2, Battletoads, Mike Tyson's Punch Out, Banjo Kazooie and UMK 3. Prepare yourselves for that post with pictures and video's a bit later. Until then, enjoy the video.

After reading Aaron's review of Wario's Woods and the decent score he gave it. I purchased Wario's Woods for the Super Nintendo (the better version) for a bit under $6, looks like I can hold off on the system for a bit longer.
More video, more craziness

I posted a review for Guitar Hero, it would really be super if you could look it over and tell me what you think. Does the strange writing style make the review better or more entertaining, or does it make it seem convoluted, I want to know what you think. I have to say that the Guitar Hero games have easily asserted themselves as some of my favorite of all time. However, it sucks that GH2 for the Xbox 360 is getting more songs, because there is no way I am rebuying the game and the guitars. However, I am still happy I got the PS2 version because there is no way I could have held out this long for the 360 version anyway.
And now for something completely different.
FFX was full of huge problems with its storyline. The gameplay was great, it was easily the most well balanced and deep but accessible gameplay that the series has ever seen (I haven't played FF12). All of the main heros were well developed, they weren't all likeable, but they were well developed. However, as I said, the story was full of holes (spoilers). It had potential, but as the game continued on and more plot aspects were introduced, I think that the writers ended up digging themselves into a hole. There was simply not enough explanation of so many aspects of the story, why was Seymour crazy, why did Yunalesca try to kill us? What was the relationships between both Zanarkands and who the heck was Yu Yevon. All of these questions were touched on, but for a story this complicated, they were not explained nearly enough. The ending was a bit surprising with the loss of Tidus, though it was completely unclear what actually happened to him (he must have gone to disneyworld for kingdom hearts). Other than that, the ending did nothing to resolve all of the questions left by the plot. However, I can't argue with the excellent gameplay, presentation, value and characterization, but with the badly written storyline, I had to bring down the score quite a bit. Though I still slapped it with a respectable 8.4, it got lucky. Make sure you read my Guitar Hero review and give me some comments. I love comments.

He's like, some non-giving-up... school guy

I have returned to my dorm room after a long break at my home. Classes don't start until tomorrow, but I am actually glad to be back at school. It is boring sometimes but it gives me the feeling that I am moving forward in my life.I still haven't finsished FFX (the last boss is giving me more trouble than I expected). Nickscho, you are right, the FF games are going downhill. Anyway, once I do finish that game. I think I will move on to Jak 3, I have Okami and Oblivion and Radiada Stories, but I am in the mood for a shorter, more action oriented game.
As a final note, I would like to go on record by saying that the SINGLE WORST design decision in VIDEO GAME HISTORY. Is to put a long, unskippable cutscene right in front of a challenging battle, Why do games keep doing this? Please, cutscenes should never, ever be unskippable. I can't stand it.

I don't have too much to say here, but I will say it anyway.
I have finished recording footage for two videos, they just need to be edited. Now, I'm not one for hyperbole,so it is quite a statement when I say that these will be the two best videos ever made by anybody is history, stay tuned for those.
FFX just keeps going, I just beat Seymour inside of Sin (which I expected to be the first half of the last boss) but the game is not over and, in all honesty, I am ready for it to be so I can see the ending and hopefully get resolution to plot loopholes and move on to something else.
Updating this blog daily is hard. Harder than I thought it would be. So, I'm already going back on my New Years's Intention (thats why it was just an intention). I will update the blog whenever I can think of something insightful or important to me to say (which will be often) but now I don't have to feel obligated to post thing daily just to keep up with the quota.
Thanks for reading, and yes, it is indeed an awesome blog title, thanks for the compliments.

Now now, there's no need to be difficult.

I recently reviewed Dynamite Headdy, a game that could have been one of the most fondly loved game on the Genesis. However, it is way too unforgiving to make it truly outstanding.
Now, I have no problems with challenging games, I beat Gunstar Heroes, and i've gotten to the last level of Battletoads and have beaten the First Master Ninja Tournament and other stuff. However, the problem with Headdy is that you are not given any continues, so when you die, you are forced to replay every level. I have reached the conclusion the I have no problems with hard games, but games that are completely unforgiving and make you replay huge quanities of game that you have already beaten and prevent you from getting through to seeing all the content in a game are very hard to want to invest the required time into when there are so many other options out there. Difficulty is a hard thing to balance, sometimes it makes a game stay constantly intense and fun (Ninja Gaiden, Smash T.V.) and other times it really drags down what would otherwise be a spectatular game (Dynamite Headdy, Die Hard Trilogy)

Will Gamespot ever be the same?

Greg is leaving Gamespot.I will miss him, but not because of his reviews (i'm still bitter about Halo 2 and Fable) nor his often soft spoken sense of humor. Rather, I will miss his presence. He always seemed to have everything under control. Even amidst E3 craziness or the holiday season, you always had the feeling that Greg would be able to help the site handle it all. He was the father figure of the sometimes insane ramblings of Jeff and Alex. I'm glad he is following what he has always wanted to do and I'm sure Gamespot will find someone to succeed him, but at the very least, the site will feel alot differant without him.
Why I do what I do (I don't do it for you).

Every few days, I like to spend a bit of my time on the internet perusing reviews of game released many years ago. Then, if the game seems beloved by at least one person, and it lloks appealling to me. I will make an attempt to track it down on Ebay or Half.com and purchase it. When you are only spending about $5 a game, even it the game is crap (which it often is). I feel it was worth my money just for the feeling of trying a new game where I have no idea what to expect.
The fact is, I spend so much time reading reviews of a new game before I buy it so that I already know quite a bit about the game before I even start playing. Oftentimes my impluse buying of old games leads to stuff like Last Action Hero or SkullJagger (which are always good for a laugh) but sometimes I find a game that has been completely passed over by many people and is really a great experience to find and play. This is how I found Super Smash T.V.. Have you ever heard of the game Fire Shark for Genesis? Probably not, but I bought it for around $5 and it is awesome. Video games are are best when they are full of surprises.

Perfection inspection
by Wootex on Comments
The gaming community is a fiesty crew, filled with firebrands and people who are aggressively passionite about the games that they love. Let's take a look at Fable for example, if we go into the reader review section and take a look at our good friend Mr. Pie Chart, we see that nearly 15% of people who rated Fable have rated it as "perfect". Now, this post is not to make remarks about Fable having quality and workmanship comprable to that of your average big mac, nor is it a blog post where I will call thos people giant morans with big bags of pus for brains. I will not do that, it would be immature and unrelated to the real purpose of this blog.
What I wan't to discuss is, what really makes a game perfect. I would be led to think that perfection would mean that a game has no noticeable flaws and is as good as it possibly good be within the constraints of its system. However, I don't think that is the definition that many of us have taken to heart, many of us like to believe that any game which provides a truly amazing experience for yourself personally and seems much better than other games is perfect.
Well, a word only means what you make it mean. If a game is your favorite game of all time does that make it perfect? The Legend of Zelda OOT or Super Mario Bros are games that I would consider to be perfect but I don't like them nearly as much as Battletoads (a game with at least double digit quanities of problems). So, I am pulling a Yuna and summoning my friends, come on guys, we are tracking each other's blogs for a reason. I am invoking you to tell me what qualifies a game as perfect and if perfection in a game varys per person or if some games simply are, and nearly every othe game is not
