Exploring the Point System I've seen people complain that find their favorite shows is now harder because of the way the web addresses have been set up. They include numbers and not just words. Sadly this is a nessecity in a system bombarded by duplicates. However it is interesting to examine the system and to note a somewhat pro of the number system. If you want to access a show or person you just need to know its/their number. For example: http://www.tv.com/show/10/summary.html will take you to Buffy the Vampire Slayer just as http://www.tv.com/buffy-the-vampire-slayer/show/10/summary.html will. No I did not pick Buffy because of my icon. It happens to be the first show listed. Shows 1 through 9 take you to blank guides. These are to first few and last few entries so far in the database: http://www.tv.com/show/11/summary.html Babylon 5 http://www.tv.com/show/12/summary.html Angel http://www.tv.com/show/13/summary.html (blank) http://www.tv.com/show/14/summary.html Taxi http://www.tv.com/show/15/summary.html Clerks http://www.tv.com/show/16/summary.html Bette http://www.tv.com/show/17/summary.html Welcome to New York http://www.tv.com/show/18/summary.html Yes, Dear http://www.tv.com/show/19/summary.html CSI http://www.tv.com/show/20/summary.html The Fugitive http://www.tv.com/show/21/summary.html That's Life http://www.tv.com/show/112/summary.html Seinfeld http://www.tv.com/show/151/summary.html The Courtship of Eddie's Father http://www.tv.com/show/189/summary.html The West Wing (knew by heart) http://www.tv.com/show/5151/summary.html (blank) http://www.tv.com/show/1999/summary.html (blank) http://www.tv.com/show/13000/summary.html Nickelodean Robot Wars http://www.tv.com/show/13999/summary.html (blank) http://www.tv.com/show/14000/summary.html Puppetman http://www.tv.com/show/14250/summary.html Earthfast http://www.tv.com/show/14254/summary.html The Six O' Clock Follies http://www.tv.com/show/14354/summary.html (blank) http://www.tv.com/show/14500/summary.html It Could Be You http://www.tv.com/show/14750/summary.html Wild Rescues http://www.tv.com/show/14850/summary.html (blank) http://www.tv.com/show/14999/summary.html Vandread http://www.tv.com/show/15000/summary.html (blank) http://www.tv.com/show/15001/summary.html (blank) http://www.tv.com/show/15999/summary.html (blank) http://www.tv.com/show/16000/summary.html Detective School http://www.tv.com/show/17000/summary.html Match of the Day http://www.tv.com/show/19999/summary.html (blank) http://www.tv.com/show/20000/summary.html (blank) http://www.tv.com/show/25000/summary.html ET on MTV http://www.tv.com/show/28829/summary.html Weeds http://www.tv.com/show/29999/summary.html (blank) http://www.tv.com/show/30000/summary.html (blank) http://www.tv.com/show/30354/summary.html (blank) http://www.tv.com/show/31987/summary.html The War at Home http://www.tv.com/show/33700/summary.html How I Met Your Mother http://www.tv.com/show/33728/summary.html Kitchen Confidential http://www.tv.com/show/35000/summary.html Sink or Swim http://www.tv.com/show/37999/summary.html (blank) http://www.tv.com/show/39999/summary.html (blank) http://www.tv.com/show/40000/summary.html (blank) It seems that new shows automatically have 5 ratings. 2 poor, 2 mediocre, and 1 bad. This gives a overall review of 4.7 and automatically ensures that it will never be on the Top 10 the day it was published. It also seems that some shows may have been deleted which is indicated by random blank slots. Or maybe they're just superstitious about the number 13. Another possiblilty is that the staff like to give certain shows certain show ids just because they feel like it or like them. The number system works but it does happen to be a nightmare for easy access to actors. Most accessed actors often have some where between 5 and 6 numbers for their person id. This makes them hard to find and hard to remember. Also looking at the first entries allows you to see into the basis of the system design. Cancelled shows that would probably not be getting as much attention as say Lost or CSI were brought over first (although I can truly imagine tons of Buffyverse fanatics loading over mod queues. I still have submissions pending from July 9th). Surfing though profiles is easy though. Instead of using tons of code they've made it very simple. All you have to do is change the username. http://www.tv.com/users/Yakira/profile.php http://www.tv.com/users/snide/profile.php On the other hand if spell a users name wrong it can take it 10 times as long to load the page only to take you to a blank profile. Even better is the code for checking your contributions. http://www.tv.com/usersubmission/submission_profile.html&queue_page=1 It the same for everybody. The system isn't perfect but it does have some upsides. I'm thinking about listing all submissions and color coding one that are pending approval and then later, once the staff gets around to it, one that have been fixed. Also maybe prefacing the first entry with a list of rules and maybe moving it to a new thread before I exceed the character count so that I can take up the first page of posts. Maybe I'll link the entry to the research on the following pages. Ambitious. Who knows though? I doubt all of this will get done. Don't anybody count on it. At least not too soon. I wonder how snide is doing on that FAQ. Thinking about starting a thread for a List of MIA Editors. Make the cutoff no editor activity for a month. List editor and shows. People must include links with submissions. Of course I almost think it would be a better idea if I got someone else to do it. Comments? Suggestions? Ideas? Warnings? In the meantime here are some threads on the subject. here and here make note that my thread is on the TV Tome Questions board and while you can access it it will quickly disappear and bumping won't make anybody but the staff see it. There are some episodes from the 4th, 5th, and 6th season of The West Wing with completely blank Quotes & Trivia pages. I hope nobody thinks I'm a bad editor for it. It was like that when I got the guide. But sometimes it's just like what do I work on first? Need to do recaps for the rest of The West Wing. Thanks to users like me, RoxieVelma, and GeorgeFergus that guide is gonna kick ass. Still looking for somebody to work on the cast for the 6th season. Details in the Forum. Working on learning my way around Weeds. The show is brand new and so is the fan base. Finding info for it is not gonna be easy. I try to stay on top of it all with spoilers and casting and news that TV.com doesn't add. I want that guide to excel in excellance like the The West Wing will when I've accomplished all my goals. Finding little known trivia is gonna be a pain in the butt I'm guessing until the second season. If anybody knows of some already constructed fansites or forums much like the TWoP boards or the J/D talk group fill me in.

JW, TWoP, FAQ, Level Update, and Evil Bert

John Wells? Why do you hate me so much? John Wells is EEEEEEE-VIL! EEEEEEEEEEE-VIL! Go Here: Live Network Primetime TV Dramas are ALWAYS a stupid idea... Anything must be bad when you need that many adjectives to describe it. Cry. Think: John Wells is EEEEEEE-VIL! Cry. Now, Read On: It was stupid when they did it on ER. It will be stupid now. The West Wing is (was) known for long one shots that go through hall after hall, set after set, and character after character and impeccable and nearly unsurpassed acting which I can only assume was the result of more takes than I wanna imagine with shots going up to 5 minutes straight. No plausible long shots are foreseen with this episode which I can only assume will be pedeconference-free. Not if it's gonna be anything like ER. The live ER episode (another EEEEEEE-VIL! JW production) was like viewing unprofessional theater through security cameras. It's also during the debate episode which means that not only will it never compare to "Game On" but it won't even come close to "Access." Say it with me: John Wells is EEEEEEE-VIL! John Wells must die for this personal affront to all TWW lovers. Season seven looks so so so very dismal. Bad writing is one thing, a complete absence of relevant character development is another, but Mr. JW... you have sunken to a New Low. (And it must hurt down there below hell). Ok. I'm gonna try to move on and from this (although I can't think that I ever will or will be able to after I read the TWoP and J/D forums. I'll just plan to watch Extreme Makeover: Home Edition that night... I was telling my boyfriend about the many ways in which stupid, stupid John Wells needs to suffer a horrible death at the hands of Aaron Sorkin while telling him about the article when he pointed out that Will & Grace had been together for longer than most married couples. I pointed out that it would be weird if they were married because they both "enjoy the company of other men" (ah, The Simpsons...). He said he already knew that. (I knew he knew that but we can be annoyingly cute that way.) I said that it would be interesting if they were married anyway because it would make for an interesting sitcom. We both expressed that talking too loud about it would be a bad idea because the FOX network execs might be listening. He told me I should write to them. I mean he did work on it from the beginning, maintain it, did research, and helped a lot of users out. And if nothing else his name is listed as the author of the thread. Still I did my best to help out and I put in a lot of work, too. :( Updates: August 10, 2005 At 7:25pm Level 12 (39%) Reviews: 7 Blogs: 18 (including this one) Forum Posts: 331 Submissions: Accepted: 1022 Denied: 83 Pending: 148 Total: 1253 Evil Bert is from Seseme Street? :D:D:D My 1000th Accepted Submission! :D:D:D Will: We're vetting Wendell Wilkie. What do you think?

Wendell Wilkie (Feb. 18, 1892 - Oct. 8, 1944) was in the only native of Indiana to be a Repulican Nominee for President of the United States without having been elected to high office of government. He started out as a Democrat and switched parties as a strategic move to bring down FDR's New Deal. He lost the 1940 election to Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the Democratic Nominee. He supported the military draft. Accepted: 1000 :D Denied: 71 Ignored: 149 Pending Total: 1220

Update and Recap

It was time for a new level update post. The old one was just harder to get to what with all the blank screens combined with the extra navigation (a true hardship, I know). Anyway... August 4th, 2004 Sometimes between 6:41pm and 8:33pm Level 11 (6%) I wanna get past this level before they ask me to go on an away mission. Well on my way to 1000 submissions accepted! (935 so far) BTW, best blog title I've seen so far: Video Killed the Radio Star and Then Finished Off My Self-Esteem I've got to go continue overhauling The West Wing guide. Eventually there will be recaps for every ep but I can tell that's gonna take a while. RoxieVelma said she might work on a few so that will help. If any body else wants some points I've given some ideas in the show's forum. Please, Please, PLEASE go check it out. That's a dangerous things to say. Next thing you know the Cohens are going to have Ty Pennington come over and remodel their house right after Summer, Zach, and Seth crashland and get lost on some mysterious island while Julie Cooper gets elected to the White House and Caleb Nicols tries to contact his family and harass Ryan through the medium that is now Ryan's brother, a gift the brother developed after secretly being in the CIA and then a coma for two years. Oh and Trey will walk with a cane and do plastic surgery as his day job.

That is actually a fantastic idea.

I forgot to add that Kirsten will be pursing a relationship with Jimmy while Jimmy pursues a double marriage to Hailey and Sandy. In the mean time Sandy will be accepting Oliver into his home as a his new troubled youth, because Ryan has straigtened out, while Rebecca joins and then takes over the local mafia to try to reverse the charges pressed against her all the while suffering from panic attacks. Somewhere in the mist of this Caleb will be reincarnated as the leader of a cult whose only desire is to grow and spread chrysanthemums, as he searches for and recuses the castaways. After Luke and Ryan join the school's basketball team, it will be discovered that they are actually brothers but we will have to wait until season 4 to figure out exactly how that happened. Until we do Luke and Ryan will once again fight over Marissa's affections while she pursues yet once again Alex, then Summer, then Seth. Theresa will get hooked on her kids ADD medication and Julie will burn down the capitol. The season will end with President Julie getting shot and we will have to wait until season 4 opens to figure out what will happen next.

Where do you get these awesome ideas. I hop the writers of the O.C. are reading this!!!!!!!Alboboy890
