2GB's is fine!

Daytona_178

About readyboost and page file, Tweakguides said that if I have over 3gb of ram+readyboost combined, I only need 512mb of page file for vista. This number seems to be a lot lower than what most people are talking about out there.

Using 2gb of ram in windows 7 32bit is enought right? I mean it's slimmer and more efficient than Vista (as proven by tests), and it does not scale in memory usage as Vista does if many processes are running.

Because for a 32bit OS, getting 4gb of ram is a waste because I have a 768MB video card, and minus all of the other devices, I'll only see 3gb for a 4gb price.

Most Vista drivers will work, if it doesn't there is a compatibility mode and it will ask you when was the last time the driver worked and you select Windows Vista and then it should install it.xXDrPainXx
Is the compatibility mode a part of windows 7? So what happens if I select it, like windows7 starts to work like vista?

Edit: nevermind, I get it now.

My motherboard doesn't seem to have chipset drivers for windows 7, is the vista driver guaranteed to work on windows7 as well?

[QUOTE="JigglyWiggly_"] Are we talking about Server 2008 or Server 2008 R2. They are different, Server 2008 = vista, Server 2008 R2 = Windows 7. By all means get Server 2008 R2, everything is better there :) Speed, functionality yeah. So here is how it works If you have 2008, get vista drivers. IF you have 2008 R2, get Windows 7 drivers. If you only see Vista drivers, they will probably work on Windows 7/2008R2 as well, they share the same driver base.

Also as you probably already know 2k8R2/any other server os from Microsoft, the GUI is stripped down, like you get no flashy features, which is good if you are doing server oriented things, not gaming. Although gaming runs great, unlike 2008/2003, direct3d and stuff is already enabled :D

I was talking about server 2008, not R2. Nevermind the server versions, I see that antivirus for them costs a bundle, and free antivirus are for workstations only and don't work on them.

I'm downloading windows7 32bit RC, because I don't want to pay for vista when windows 7 is so close. I'm only doing this because there is a game that is coming out that I want to enable dx10 features.

I downloaded the 32bit version for 2gb of ram, because the 64bit version seems to be taking up so much ram and is only good if you have 4gb or more right?

Also, if I setup a dual boot with two partitions on my computer, will the windows 7 be able to run programs installed on the xp partition on the same hard drive? Or should I do a clean install?

Thanks.

Anti viruses are pretty expensive, that's true I have mcaffee enterprise but it goes for a largo. Though there is a free antivirus that I used that works very well, it's called risiing soft antivirus or something like that free edition, works good. Server 2008, I would pass it.Also 64 bit and 32bit ram usuage should be the same,64 bit is just better. Windows 7 can run programs that are on the XP parittion, as long as they are not tied to registry, but most programs are these days.

Actually Windows 7 64bit requires 2GB to run, doesn't that mean it's a lot more memory hogging than the 32bit version which needs just 1gb to run?

Do hardware drivers like for soundcard that's written for vista also work on server 2008? Or do you need special drivers?

I can get either server 2008 or windows 7 beta for free.

Which one is better for directx 10 games?

Should I get the 32bit or 64bit for 2gb of ram?

GRID is a fast-paced arcade racer in which you'll have to flick the stick back and forth in a very unrealistic manner. GTR2 and rFactor are simulation games that require very sensitive and precise inputs from a wheel and pedals to keep control of the car.DGFreak
I heard that Grid has two modes, arcade and "realistic"? So both of them are unrealistic?

And does grid play better with a gamepad/joystick or keyboard?
