@SpookyJack Or at least the day you stop buying games. I will still play the crap out of my older games that I am still "allowed" to own. I wouldn't be surprised if they called for a recall of all the physical media, almost like a ban on a certain type of firearm. All registered firearms would then have to be turned in and forfeited that fall under the new ban. Wouldn't EA like to do that with our discs too? Scary, but I bet they would if they could.
@Sohereiam Not to mention, batteries can die, HDDs can be wiped/corrupted. An EMP could wipe out the power grid, or what have you. That good ol paperback will still be viable even in a power outage (during the daylight). Similarly, snipers are trained to use the old methods of range estimation, map reading, compass, etc just in case their high tech equipment fails.
I don't think that the numbers tell the entire story. Digital sales are up because of Steam sales and smaller indie games that are download only. I am quite sure that console owners prefer to have a physical copy, and the only reason PC users don't care as much is because of product keys and the fact that PC games generally cannot be resold as readily as console games at brick and mortar outlets. People are already up in arms about the possibility that the next gen will not be backwards compatible, not to mention the notion that used games might be blocked as well. The sad thing is, we don't really have much say in the matter. Still, I think that physical copies are going to be around for longer than he thinks.
@Thyasianman I agree about the HUD. I like the crosshair off (that is what iron sights and optics are for), and having the minimap up at all times is also annoying. The immersion is much greater when you have nothing on screen. That was one of the best parts of Far Cry 2, the map you had to pull up to your face. I hope that there are some options to get rid of all that stuff. The XP thing looks annoying too. That is not something that belongs in a shooter campaign.
The combat looks good, but I am fearful that there are only a handful of attacks. It might be awesome for the 1st ten minutes, but repetitive attacks can start to dry up the experience a bit. At least there is a variety of ways to smash your opponents into objects in the environment. That almost never gets old if there is enough variety involved there.
@_yuriy_ Yes. There is a 2 part mod called Enhanced Soundtrack. It has a few Lord of the Rings songs added, and a couple others. It doesn't replace the original soundtrack, but adds to it.
I really hope you can name your soldiers, and that not every soldier of a class looks identical. Still, the one base thing kinda stinks, but being able to excavate and create a layered base is neat. I am not sure that makes up for having to launch intercept missions from the opposite side of the globe at times due to the lack of multiple bases however. I am only slightly optimistic about this release. I am afraid that they may have altered the game for the better in only a few areas, but we shall see.
