@doomsdayhell01: Apple's iOS market share is barely 15%, i.e. clearly not a monopoly https://www.idc.com/promo/smartphone-market-share/os . All platforms take a cut from publishers selling content on their platforms. Xbox, PlayStation and Switch take about 30% royalties, which is about the same as Steam, Google Play and the App Store. Heck, even Epic takes 12% from all sales through their store, and 5% royalties on all games made with the Unreal Engine.
@m4a5: Microsoft had a 95%+ market share when they were hit with antitrust successfully and broken up, Apple and Google have about 49% market share each currently.
In the smartphone space, Apple (iOS) has barely 15% market share globally. Even in the US market, their market share is currently at 39%, far from being anywhere near a monopoly.
@m4a5: The thing is that Apple is no more a monopoly than Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo with their own respective platforms. Or than Epic on their own "platform" for that matter: game companies who want to sell their games on the Epic Store have to pay Epic a 12% cut on each sale.
@zmanbarzel: Mario Kart Tours is actually developed by Japanese mobile game dev DeNA. Fire Emblem Heroes is developed by Intelligent Systems. Dr. Mario World is developed by Japanese social app dev "Line" and a Korean company named NHN.
@PosiTVEMinD355 OK, it looks like the iPad mini is currently the only iOS device with stereo speakers. As for SD cards and the like, they are basically a relic from an area without ubiquitous wireless networks and high capacity storage. I understand that some people use them, just like some people prefer VHS or CDs over digital format, but I'd wager that few people really miss those. And don't get me started on why having to plug a wireless device into my HDTV isn't my idea of "convenience."
@PosiTVEMinD355 @a0me @KingofCabal More power to you and your "crappy windows phone," then. I'll keep my iPhone and its 64GB memory, and go about my business.
@surrealme @a0me @PosiTVEMinD355 Not difficult (except for some people with disabilities) but yeah, having to carry (and not lose) tiny, easy to break SD cards, fiddling with caps and slots are far from convenient.
