if you don't know what you are doing you probably won't be able to upgrade your laptop cheaper than just buying a new one. this is why most gamers play on desktops. They are easy to upgrade and parts are comparatively cheap and available. If your graphic processor is inadequate for instance, then you probably have to replace your entire motherboard since its most likely integrated.

this

It doesn't look better, it just locks the frame rate to your refresh rate, if you have, for example, 60hz refresh rate, your max frame rate will be 60, it's a necessity for LCD monitors since more frames means screen tearing, black frames.

DanielDust
this is not quite correct. Vertical Synchronization was developed primarily for CRT (old thick style monitors) because they refresh the screen from top to bottom and if you are processing faster you would be displaying one image at the top of the screen and another at the bottom. LCD's do not work in this way and therefore you shouldn't need vsync at all for an LCD.

Wow. this is the stupidest thing I have read around here in awhile. I think there is substantial debate that Mac OS is better than Microsoft. More importantly what are yo talking about "cut down their losses and costs to regain market share"? Microsoft currently has an 87.75% market share with Mac having 9.81%. This is roughly the same percentage market share that Mac had in the late 80's. Mac is not even in the same league as Microsoft and the OS segment of Microsoft brought in. Microsoft made over 3 billion dollars last quarter in a down year primarily because of Windows and Office. Also your incompatibility in games is mostly due to people having different hardware, not operating systems. Most compatibility issues are driver related. Mac conveniently gets around this by standardizing their hardware and then charging you a huge premium on what should be a reasonably priced computer.

well if you bought it loaded with windows 98 then that was a decade ago and you probably can't play anything. We really need to know your specs but I wouldn't even bother buying a pc game because there is very little chance it will run on an 11 year old laptop.

Mafia!!!!!!!! They even open up with a credits style scene like at the movies. Excellent story. If you are looking more recent then I would say GTA 4 is very cinematic though its not linear.

I think the maker's of World of Goo might disagree. Some games will clearly be the equivalent of cgi movies but many successful games will pursue good story or good design over graphics and they will be rewarded for it the majority of the time. The two top selling games for a couple of years now have been The Sims (or some expansion thereof) and WOW (or some expansion pack). Neither one is a graphical powerhouse compared to something like Far Cry 2 or Crysis or even a GTA 4 but that doesn't really matter.

your video card has an M designation. Is this a laptop? You don't meet the system minimum requirements to play so I think it might not work at all. they say you need at least a 6800GT as a minimum and according to this sight http://www.notebookcheck.net/Comparison-of-Grafic-Cards.130.0.html your card won't play much of any game. Its rated a class 5 out of 6 and lower is better.

If you do not have a T&L capable graphic card, EA recommends at the very least a 2.0 ghz processor which you are short on. Your best bet is to buy a new video card but we can't recommend one until we know what slots you have available. Do you know if you have an AGP slot or a PCI-E x16 slot?
