[QUOTE="alexfla"]Of course a 4GB PS3 model is not possible because many games require installs. This is another way that Blu-ray is keeping the PS3 too expensive. Even now that the drive prices have gone way down, the fact that installs are required, translates to hard drives are required and this keeps costs up.

santoron

I know I'm just feeding the troll, but you do know that a 20gb laptop HDD would be dirt cheap if bought in mass by a manufacturer like Sony, right? I mean, you can get a 120 gb laptop HDD for like 40 bucks on newegg, and that's a markup price for end consumers.... You have to know this, don't you?

A HDD large enough to accommodate game saves and several large installs wouldn't be a primary factor in keeping PS3 prices high... that's just nonsense.

It probably costs MS $1 for the 4GB of flash memory in each 360. A 60GB HD would probably cost Sony the same as a 20 GB HD so they would go with that instead. A 120 GB HD would be way too expensive.

I'm thinking it costs Sony 15 - 20 for a 60 GB HD and around 25 - 30 for a 120 GB HD. That is WAAAAAAAAAY too expensive to sell the PS3 at $200. The truth is, even if they could get a 20 GB HD for $1, they would take a loss if they lowered the PS3 down to $200.

Last month Sony was selling 120 GB HD PS3s for $300, this month they upgraded to the 160 GB for the same price. Don't you think they would sell if for $200 if they weren't going to lose money on it?

Apparently a lot of online portions of games require hard drive and won't let you with flash memory, so I would say terrible deal. if fixed I would say decent deal, still not great, better off paying the extra 100 dollars.

You mean 3 games, Halo 3, Halo ODST and Halo Reach.

The $2000.00 gaming PC is cheaper to me in this crazy upside down world you created in this thread that your suggestion is a good idea.Jynxzor

This crazy upside down world you think I created is what is known as 'reality'. Have you noticed the 360 has DRAMATICALLY outsold the Wii 3 months in a row? This month things will be even better with Reach the 360 will put up HUGE numbers.

You see, normal people just see a $200 360 and think it's a great deal because IT REALLY IS. On this forum you guys make up stories and convince yourselves that it's garbage to damage control the situation.

I remember when cows were damage controlling the $600 launch price of the PS3 making countless threads about the 360 being more expensive.

You guys are tripping. I just won a 4GB Slim, and it's an incredible piece of hardware for $200. Easily the best deal on the market.

What's with people acting like you need more than 4GB? Aside from optional game installs, 4GB is more than sufficient.

dovberg

Of course if you want to wait three times as long for loading times, no demos and no other form of DLC.

By this post I can tell you don't own now and have never owned a 360. The load time is roughly the same when a game is installed or not installed. You gain maybe a 20% difference in some games and it's BARELY noticeable only if you're paying close attention.

You say the load times are 3 times as long? Provide evidence of this.

Your poll screams fanboy. I would say no based on the recent revelations that 4gig users can't play online coop Halo and other games due to Msofts unreasonable demands to purchase a hard drive.

Actually it was confirmed today that this is a software issue that only affects the new slim 360s and only Halo3/ODST/Reach. Also, MS stated that they were working on a fix and should have one shortly.

Do having a game console with no wifi, no hard drive, and still having to pay $50 a year for online is a fantastic deal? You can't even play like 1/3 of the games out there (at least properly) without an expensive MS hard drive, one that comes cheaper if it comes with the 360.

TC, you cannot possibly be serious in any way shape or form in saying the arcade is a good deal.

SPYDER0416

First of all it has wifi, not only that, it has the MOST ADVANCED AND LATEST WIFI 'N' TECHNOLOGY. The PS3 is still using the snail slow and outdated 5 year old 'g' wifi.

Finally, you can play 100% of the games with it without the need for a hard drive.

Overall it turned out as a very inexpensive and pleasant upgrade experience. Most people on this forum try to paint this horrid picture of doom just to criticize a system they don't own.

Pug-Nasty

That's a pleasant upgrade experience? I bought a 320 gig hdd off newegg for 70 bucks and that's all it took to upgrade my ps3. I'm looking at 750 gig hdds right now, or soon. I more than 4 gigs of wallpapers on my hdd, about 30 gigs of music, some videos.

4 gigs is terrible, and they had no reason, other than continuing to price gouge their consumers, for not finally putting in a basic laptop drive in their new redesign.

Did you buy that HD three and a half years ago like I did?

I think the current 199 Wii configuration is the best, as it comes with two games and Wii Motion Plus. It also has built in Wireless, free (though rudimentary) online, free use of Netflix (for Netflix subscribers, of course), 100% backwards compatibility, built in storage, SD card support, choice of color, and additional features for Nintendo DS owners.savebattery

And GameCube graphics.

[QUOTE="Skittles_McGee"]Its not the space that's a problem. Its that there are literally game features you can't use, because there is no HDD. Even if there is no logical reason you'd need an HDD.RogueShodown

It has a 4GB HDD. What features are we talking about? FM3's extra content is the only exception I could think of, but even then that would fit.

We're talking about the "best deal around" though, it's definitely the Slim. Once you have a chance to hold one and use it, all previous 360's seem archaic. All that cutting edge tech for the price of a Wii. Crazy stuff.

I'd rather get a Wii and I haven't even used one. If you plan on actually using that space for DLC and games, it'll fill up extremely fast. Installs are out of the question as they tend to be over the less-than 4GBs of space that you are allotted. It's not a matter of whether you're an avid gamer or just play games occasionally; there's going to be a point where you'll run out of that space and won't be able to move stuff to a thumb drive. Would you then want to pay $130 for a 250GB HDD? If they make any smaller HDDs, they'll probably still cost over $100. MS wouldn't give you 4GBs of space if they thought that was all you needed.

I remember when the 120 GB Elites were released and that was the only way to get a bigger than 20 GB hard drive unless you buy the 120 GB HD that cost I think $130 back then not sure.

I wanted a bigger hard drive because I buy a lot of tv shows and rent movies and download demos and trailers so I just wanted more space.

I went to ebay and found someone who was selling the 120 GB HD from his elite, made sure he had 100% feedback and bought it for $80 including shipping. Before that I called MS and asked for a transfer kit(they were giving them away for free back then) and I had it already before my new HD arrived.

When the 120 HD arrived I noticed it was in brand new perfect condition unused. I transfered everything from the 20 GB HD to the 120 GB HD. Very easy process.

I then sold the 20 GB HD on ebay for $50 - $5 for shipping and ebay fees. Then I sold the transfer kit for $20 minus $3 shipping and ebay fees.

Overall it turned out as a very inexpensive and pleasant upgrade experience. Most people on this forum try to paint this horrid picture of doom just to criticize a system they don't own.
