Too many new IPs.

For some reason or another, new IPs interest me far more than the newest game in a series I really like. Why? Because, I know that there's going to another Resi Evil, Final Fantasy and Mario game, but new IPs are such a shot in the arm, I need to wake up and take a look.

Zack & Wiki, Professor Layton and No More Heroes have been, or will be released over here in either January or February. I fully intend to pick them up new to show my support.

I may get Zack & Wiki this weekend if my plans work out! Fingers crossed.

Tracking 2008.

Seeing as 2007 was ahuge year for my collection last year, I have decided to track all the games I buy, and all the games I finish, so that I can see how my backlog is faring.

January, for most people, is a good month for finishing games. I don't know why, but it seems like people have been finishing a good deal of games this month, which is bound to end soon! :P

Anyway, so far this month I have finished 5 games so far this month, which is really good. So far, I've only bought 1 game, Jet Force Gemini, although that may change very soon.

Best Day Ever Entry

My favourite game of all time is one that is sure to stir a great deal of controversy. Before I say why this certain game is my fave of all time, let me start by detailing how it came to be with me.

The story starts in late 1998. I was asked by my mother what I wanted for Christmas of that year, a Nintendo 64 or a Playstation. I had received a Game Boy Pocket earlier that year as a present, and I had seen the word "Nintendo" on it, so linking my countless hours of enjoyment with Tetris and Super Mario Land to Nintendo, I went with the N64, and although I never once regretted that decision, when I started to have more money in 2005, I started to yearn for other consoles and games.

In early 2005, I bought Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean for the Gamecube, and while this wasn't my first exposure to the great JRPG, it was the game which got me interested in JRPGs seriously.

In the summer of 2005, I finally purchased a PS2, which finally offered me all those PS1 games I had been yearning for. The most famous in my eyes were the Final Fantasy games, and thanks to my recent introduction to RPGs, I quickly purchased Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII. Unlike 99% of the population, Final Fantasy VII didn't become my favourite game of all time. Final Fantasy VIII did.

Don't get me wrong, Final Fantasy VII is a great game, just highly overrated. It is NOT the best RPG ever, I find the characters highly annoying, the fact that I have to use the Playstation's terrible D-pad is uncomfortable, the most annoying "spoiler" of all time and the fact that it has been milked to the point of insanity just repels me from the game.

Final Fantasy VIII is my favourite game of all time for numerous reasons.

Firstly, the soundtrack has resonated with me from the glorious opening, to the sweet piano tunes have left their mark on me.

Secondly, I really like the characters. Sure Squall is way too emo for his own good, but the girls of Final Fantasy VIII are really great characters.

While most people don't like the battle system, I do. Junctioning, drawing and all the other FFVIII battle quirks come together to form a much more complex, but ultimately more satisfying battle system, at least in my opinion than FFVII.

So there you have it, my favourite game of all time is Final Fantasy VIII.

Oh, that was low!

So I got my Chemistry Paper back today, and I got.....20%. Oh well. I don't care about Chemistry, it has no correspondance to what I want to do next year (Sixth form), or my career, and I'm repelled even further by poor teaching, and in my case, a racist teacher. He makes FOX news look like a bunch of hippies. The rest of my class did terribly as well. I think the highest score was 35%, and the lowest 2%. There's talk we might not do the Chem GCSE as it migh affect our chances badly for other Sciences. I hope that does happen. I've already had one exam, my Italian Writing, cancelled, and I hope my Chem one is too. If it is, then I can do nothing in Chem for the rest of the year.

On another note, I'm in reviewing mode, as my new system of only reviewing 2 games a week has made me appreciate the buzz I get when I post a review more, and that's nice. I think I'll review Primal Rage, and maybe 4WD Road Riot Racing, two absolutely atrocious games on the SNES.

Mock Exams -99999

So today was the end of my mocks, and I'm so happy. I revised for the ones I knew I would do well in, so I'm expecting good results in those, the others, I don't care about, so why waste time on those?

So, at the end of the Biology paper, we were told we would have another Maths mock on Thursday. We were not told about this at all, and they were cheeky enough to say to us spend out free day (Wednesday) revising. Ummm, no. My best friend's comin over on Tuesday night and stayin till Wednesday, and then I'm just going to do nothing for the rest of my day off.

The reason I have a day off is because my whole is closed off thanks to 11+ entrance exams. YAY!

Done with the Creed!

Finished Assasin's Creed last night. Yet another extremely annoying cliffhanger, but I'm used to those now. The number of points I got in one sitting was ridiculous, about 300 or something.

Anyway, I liked the game quite a bit, but along with Halo 3, it was overhyped to the point of insanity.

Tron and Omega Five Impressions.

So, I downloaded the demos to both of the geames, and here are my impressions:

Omega Five: Really quite fun. I love shmups, and its nice to finally see a new one, and not a port of an arcade game that is basically unplayable at this point in time. Will def pick it up at some point.

Tron: How this got past QA at any company is beyond me! The game is an absolute atrocity, and is so unplayable it needs to be seen by all. The sound is hideous, the graphics are nauseous, and along with Yie Ar Kung Fu, this ranks as one of the worst XBLA games by far.
