In the present..... Nintendo is laughing. I am sure both Sony and M$ would like to have the success the Wii (and DS) is getting now. The Wii is suffering shortages and still out selling the competitors. It doesn't matter to Nintendo that in one years time no one buys the Wii because they would probably have gain some nice profit, shareholder satisfaction and developer interest, which is MORE important that fanboy rants about the Wiimote, or the depth of the games etc. Maybe they will have made enough profit to develop a new bad@$$ console, next gen.
Reggie comes in as the REGGINATOR, with mock Gun and rocket launcher. That will make anything from Sony or M$ look trivial, and will be the main talking point of this year. Developers will notice, and more will jump on the Nintendo bandwagon.
I Have not turned my Wii off for over a month. I think it is on Standyby (Orange light). Have not had any problems with it yet, however my Wii quite warm. I am not saying the TC is lying, but more details would be more helpful.
