@anodyn3: You sure that feeling isn't just indigestion? Forza 7 is a niche sim racer, graphically it does look amazing though. Crackdown 3 has more questions then answers after E3, MS has yet to show what people want to see, that's the 4 player co-op, and the MP destruction. State of Decay 2 isn't giving me a AAA game vibe, it still looks like the game was made at a smaller type studio. And Sea of Thieves looks fun, but we still don't know much about it.
Their AAA 2017 line-up of Halo Wars 2, Forza 7, and Crackdown 3 is laughably bad, especially for a new console launch, and even though we only know of a couple of games for next year, it doesn't look any better. There's SoT and SoD2 in the first half, there's obviously Forza Horizon 4. That leaves room for one more AAA game, maybe Halo 6.
It's not like they are the exact same game like Madden or FIFA every year. One's an open world arcade racer, the other a closed track sim racer. While there are plenty of peeple who play both, they really serve different audiences.
@jako998: I agree it is a good price for what it does, but at that price it's not going to have the effect MS believes it will. A lot of those features will be unused by developers. "Console has more power", so what? If it's not going to be used by 3rd party developers it doesn't matter. The majority of games will be no different than the PS4 Pro version, look at Destiny 2 and AC Origins, the One X version will look exactly like the Pro version. What incentive do developers have to take the extra time to do extra work on the platform with the least marketshare?
MS is again missing the point, you also need to be cheaper or the same price as your competitor, $500 consoles have historically failed. I know this is a bit different as there's a $250 option for people who won't pay $500, but the One X will be the 6th platform in terms of market size. You have PC-PS4-X1S-PS4 Pro-Switch-X1X, there's just not going to be a lot of developers putting extra resources into 1 version of the game, especially how far down the sales ladder that platform will be.
Also, their 1st party line-up makes me question MS's commitment to Xbox. They are launching a new console with only Crackdown 3, a generic action game, and Forza 7, a niche racer? And next year isn't looking any better with SoD2 and SoT, neither looks like a AAA game, and what likely be Forza Horizon 4 and Halo 6 in the fall. The fact they don't have any more games with the console launch tells me they put their eggs in one basket, the One X, and couldn't get the money from MS to also fund a bunch of games to launch it with. Phil should have just went after more games and launched a new console in 2-3 years.
Anyone who wants this to happen needs to look beyond their hate for Ubi, Vivendi would not produce more creative or better games. Ubi isn't the greatest by any stretch of the imagination, they have their issues, but they do at least take more risks than other publishers. That would change under Vivendi. The Guillemot's would have to be bought out if a takeover happens. They could then hire all the talent at Ubisoft and start another publishing company, or stay out of the games business. At that point Vivendi is stuck with a bunch of IP's that won't be the same and a name on a wall. No one wins in that scenario, especially gamers.
@yukushi: The difference is they removed the $100 Kinect from the launch X1, which allowed them to drop the price $100. They didn't just drop the price by itself.
I'm hoping they skip 2018, another year off won't hurt the franchise imo, would probably help the franchise fatigue. Just seems like after Reach we got a new Halo game or remaster every year until 2016.
