Naruto Episode 118: To the Rescue! To Be In Time for the Barrel

Sakon and Tayuya head onwards with the Konoha team hot on their trail. The boys note that it's getting dark. If they act now, maybe they can finish off the last two of the Sound. But Shikamaru cautions them not to be too hasty and reminds them that he's in charge.

While the remaining Sound worry that they'll be too late to save Orochimaru. There were too many distractions - first the Jounins and now this Genin team - but they should still be able to deliver Sasuke by tomorrow's deadline. Meanwhile, Shikamaru holds a strategy session with Naruto and Kiba to explain why attacking after dark is a bad idea. They don't have Neji's byakugan to rely on, Akamaru's keen sense of smell isn't enough, and Shikamaru can't use his trademark Shadow Bind technique if a cloud blocked the moonlight. If something went wrong now, they'd lose Sasuke for sure.

Meanwhile, Orochimaru screams in agony as his arms decay before his eyes. He watches the blood mix with water and pour into the shower drain knowing that his time in this body will soon end. Kabuto begins preparations for a body transfer, but Orochimaru is transfixed on holding out until Sasuke arrives. Kabuto tries to rationalize - if he doesn’t transfer bodies now, he'll lose everything - but assures his master that he'll send Kimimaru after Sasuke to ensure his safe and speedy delivery.

Kabuto heads underground and releases the seals that have held several dozen prisoners confined beneath Orochimaru's lair. He looks down on the men and declares that today, one shall walk free… but only one. With that, he walks away, leaving the prisoners to brawl until only one man remains alive.

Next, Kabuto breaks the news to Kimimaru that his successor has been found. He's from an advanced bloodline and has been given the Heaven seal (equal to Kimimaru's Earth seal). As Kimimaru reflects on this, his heart speeds, and the severity of his illness weighs upon him. He asks Kabuto how much time he has left. Kabuto avoids the question, but Kimimaru explains that people need a reason to live. God gave men freedom to discover their purpose, and that is what brings meaning to their lives. Kimimaru has always lived to provide Orochimaru his body, but now, a new vessel is on the way.

Orochimaru uses genjutsu on the victorious prisoner. An enormous serpent appears behind him, ready to devour the cowering survivor. Orochimaru soothes him by offering to grant one wish. He asks that all members of his clan - including the ones used as experiments - be released. Orochimaru grants this and transfers his soul into his new body. Kimimaru watches as his purpose fades. Now, Orochimaru will be unable to transfer bodies again for a few more years, and there's no way Kimimaru will hold out that long. He decides there's only one thing he can do. Retrieve the new vessel, even if it costs him his life. That is how he will thank Orochimaru.

Cut to the Konoha team, who are about to attack the Sound. Naruto Kage Bunshins and forms rasengan but Sakon is able to catch Naruto's hand before he can hit. Kiba attacks, but misses Sakon and hits Tayuyua. She turns and finds herself trapped in Shadow Bind, giving Kiba enough time to grab the barrel and flee into the forest - mission accomplished.

Irritated, Sakon goes level 2 and heads after the thieves.

Naruto Episode 116: Actually 116-117, but I didn't catch the title??

This double episode starts out with a silly skit where Naruto and Kiba are encouraging Akamaru to speak. First he meows like a cat, and then feeling the pressure of the two boys hovering over him, spits out Happy New Year.

For Neji's double episode fight series, the animation here is less than stellar. I guess I was expecting something more… but I think they saved their entire budget for the last two minutes.

Regardless, Neji starts out with the 64 Points of Hakke and smacks the crap out of Kidoumaru. When the dust settles, Kidoumaru's shell protection cracks off him, revealing he too can pull a Gaara - and use his Kumo Nenkin (Golden Spider Spines) to form a shield over his entire body. The metal alloy hardens when it hits the air and blocks all chakra. Still, Kidoumaru is now convinced that he should fight Neji from a distance and vanishes into the trees.

Now the real fight begins. Kidoumaru throws a decoy kunai to grab Neji's attention and then rains hundreds of Golden kunais at the young Hyuga. To dodge, Neji begins spinning - Hakkeshou Kaiten (Swirling Wind Rotation) - using the rotation to form a chakra barrier.

When the downpour stops, Neji tosses a kunai at Kidoumaru's head. The spider Sound ducks just in time and decides to go level 2.

With his new powers, Kidoumaru summons his large, icky spider, which excretes a very large cocoon filled with thousands of baby chakra spiders. Determined to stop the Kaiten, Kidoumaru cuts the baby spiders free. Again, Neji uses the Kaiten, but the added webbing from the spiders slows him down. Kidoumaru sees an opening and throws a kunai.

Sensing the kunai, Neji uses his chakra to deflect, but realizes his Kaiten will be useless against this new technique. Kidoumaru sends another few kunai Neji's way and then unleashes the next round of spiders on the genin. This time, Neji uses his Hakke Rokujuu Yonshou (64 points of Hakke), but as more fall, he ups the speed to 128. Kidoumaru is impressed, but believes this is still a numbers game.

As he watches from the foliage, Kidoumaru takes aim and fires a kunai. It breaks through Neji's defense, and suddenly, Kidoumaru realizes Neji has a weak spot. He could detect all kunai within 50 meters, but why couldn't he avoid this one? Now watching his prey closely, he continues to use his spiders to distract Neji while carefully targeting kunai to hit Neji. Another to plant into his back, and Kidoumaru is certain he's discovered Neji's weakness.

Neji flashes back to TenTen calling him a genius to Lee. He remembers how confident he's always been - that fate has decided he'd be victorious. Suddenly, the large spider crashed down atop him, but Neji is able to use his palm strike to send chakra into the spider, and it explodes. More kunai rain down, and more hit him this time. This time, he climbs to his feet much slower.

Kidoumaru changes strategy and creates a large brown bow with his Kumo Nenkin and then spits out an arrow. Called Nejuu Seigo 100% (arrow attack), Kidoumaru unleashes a large arrow at Neji. As the smoke clears, Neji's still standing - he was able to deflect it slightly so that it just missed his blind spot. Still, now Kidoumaru knows the exact place of the blind spot… a small point below Neji's first vertebrae.

Neji (finally - geez, what took you so long!!) pulls the six or so kunai from his back and runs into the trees for cover, while Kidoumaru takes aim again. Another arrow, this time guided by Kidoumaru's webbing, smashes throw the tree and knocks Neji's forehead protector off (that seems to be a common theme as genin are about to die…) Blood drips from Neji's face, and he looks down to see the string guiding this new arrow.

Kidoumaru is now certain he'll finish Neji off with the next arrow. This time, he'll use more spin to make sure nothing deflects it. Meanwhile, Neji realizes he doesn't have enough chakra to dodge the next attack. He thinks back to Naruto - what would you do? He stops moving and waits for the arrow to strike. It hits him in his left abdomen area and pushes him smack against a tree. Then, taking the string guiding the arrow into his hands, he forces his last bits of chakra into the string and back to Kidoumaru, who takes the critical hit and falls to the ground below.

Looking up, Neji counts eight birds and muses that again, he couldn't see the last one. He remembers asking Naruto why he tries so hard at the Chuunin. And how he used his favorite technique, Kage Bunshin, to defeat him. Naruto had explained it was the jutsu he hated most once. And unlike him, Neji's not a loser.

Flash to Naruto and the boys making their way to Sasuke. Naruto's confident that Chouji and Neji will catch up. Neji is a genius, after all.

With his last remaining chakra, Neji vows not to lose and rushes at Kidoumaru, who has now caught himself with his webbing and is hanging closer to the ground. Catching the spider Sound by surprise, Neji delivers several hard attacks. The seal retracts and it's game over for Kidoumaru.

As they both lie badly wounded, Neji explains he knew his own weak spots before Kidoumaru. Since he knew Kidoumaru would only attack there, he could concentrate all his chakra from that point and avoid instant death. He deliberately took that last hit so he wouldn't lose. Others are counting on him. Neji reaches for his forehead protector and remembers his dad's words - that Neji must live.

Kidoumaru reveals that Sasuke came with them willingly. He's now within the darkness. Neji smiles and confidently says that there is one person that can still save Sasuke. The person that saved him.

After Kidoumaru dies, cue the music for Neji's dramatic exit. His life flashes before him, and he thinks to the others that it's up to them now. As he lies unconscious, a feather lands in his open hand and the last bird flies away

Naruto Episode 115: Your Opponent Is Me!

kamaru senses the three Sound nin up ahead. Neji byakugans but doesn't sense a single trap. Shikamaru thinks they must be underestimating them - they only expected Jiroubou to follow. Now's their chance.

Jiroubou catches up to his teammates, and immediately, Tayuya demands he carry the barrel. After further taunts, the Sound sense something's not right - he's too obedient. Kidoumaru throws Tayuya the barrel and confronts pseudo-Jiroubou. The real Jiroubou always warned Tayuya about her filthy language.

Shikamaru transforms into his real form, but Kidoumaru immediately shoots spider webs from his mouth and pins Shikamaru to a tree. Naruto Kage Bunshins, only to have all clones captured in a large spider web. Kiba and Akamaru try to blindside Kidoumaru, but also end up caught in webbing. Trusting Kidoumaru to handle the genin, Tayuya and Sakon continue onwards to Orochimaru.

Neji attacks from behind, but misses, and Kidoumaru cocoons him in webbing, while a Naruto clone pulls out a kunai and attempts to saw through the webbing, but no luck. Neji soon realizes the web is made of chakra and forms a plan.

Kidoumaru uses two main attacks here - his white webbing made of chakra that acts similar to a normal spider web and a golden brown webbing that forms a metal alloy when in contact with the air. He uses Ninpou Kumo Nenkin (Spider Web Adhesive Hypha) to create a spiked cane-weapon with the special brown webbing for each of his hands. His attention now focused on the Naruto clones, one by one, he hurls his spiked weapons and takes out a clone.

Soon, all clones have vanished, and the real Naruto throws a flying punch. Kidoumaru blocks and tosses Naruto back. Neji, now free from the webbing, pulls all his allies to safety and tells them to head after Sasuke. He'll fight. When asked how he escaped, he explains that which is made from chakra can be destroyed from chakra.

Akamaru warns that Kidoumaru is stronger than Jiroubou. Neji reminds them that they must fight one on one. The rest of them must go after Sasuke. Flash to Iruka at the Third's funeral. Naruto asks why people risk their lives for others. He replied because when a person dies, so dies his past, lifestyle, and future. Everyone who dies had dreams, goals, and important people whom they trusted and helped. That bond between people grows stronger with time. Now, Sasuke's being taken to Orochimaru, and they can't allow that to happen to someone important to them. Neji turns to Naruto and adds that Sasuke's in the darkness. It's up to him to save his friend.

Not willing to let his prey get away, Kidoumaru spits webs at the fleeing boys, but Neji destroys them before they hit their targets. He then demands Kidoumaru focus his attention on him. Kidoumaru agrees - three minutes of play, and then he'll kill him. As Kidoumaru spits web after web, Neji observes the flow of chakra and deflects all webs near him. Finally, one breaks through and pins him to a tree. Kidoumaru is suddenly less amused - if his prey can't use his hands to cut the webbing, this is pretty much game over. How boring.

Neji closes his eyes while Kidoumaru forms a brown projectile and breaks free before the spike impales him. He then rushes his opponent with the 64 Points of Hakke, explaining he can emit chakra from any pore on his body.

Naruto Episode 114: Farewell My Friend! But I Still Believe In You!

With little choice left, Chouji pops the yellow pill, while Shikamaru tells his companions that Chouji is stronger than they think. Sure enough, Chouji's instantly back in the game with his Partial Multi-sized Technique, giving him Inspector Gadget limbs. He supper extends his gigantic hand and it crashed down on Jiroubou. Another smack, and Jiroubou flies backwards. Staying with the momentum, Chouji does Chou Baika no Jutsu (Ultra Multi-sized Technique) and blows up into a gigantic floating balloon in the air. Poising over his victim, he belly flops Jiroubou, sending a shockwave through the forest and flattening the foliage in the surrounding area.

Still alive, Jiroubou goes level 2 and effortlessly picks Chouji's body from him. An upward palm strike knocks Chouji back to regular size. With Jiroubou at ten times normal strength, and Chouji feeling the effects of the pill, Jiroubou gains the upper hand.

Lying in pain on the ground, Chouji recalls the first time he met Shikamaru. A group of kids had split into two teams before playing hide and seek. Chouji couldn't find his own hiding spot and gave away a teammate's spot as well to the opposing team. The kids immediately became angry and declared that any team with Chouji on it will lose.

Back in the present, Jiroubou drains Chouji's remaining chakra and tosses him aside. When he lands, his forehead protector falls off. Seeing his bag of chips beside him, he reaches for the last chip, but Jiroubou grabs the bag from him and munches the final remnants.

Chouji flashes back to his memory. The kids decide they'd rather play one man down than have Chouji on their team. Shikamaru notices the boy walk away disheartened. A butterfly stuck in a spider's web catches his attention, and Chouji frees it before heading to his father for comfort. Up on a rooftop, dad offers Chouji some advice. That one day, he'll meet someone that sees just how kind he is.

Jiroubou continues to taunt Chouji, as Shikamaru continues to mark trees so Chouji can catch up with them. As the team gets closer to Sasuke, Chouji decides to take the final red pill.

Shikamaru worries about his friend and continues their flashback. As Chouji and his father chat atop the roof, a butterfly leads chibi Shikamaru to them. There, he mentions that Chouji is sitting in his special seat where he likes to gaze at the clouds. Does Chouji mind if he sits? Chouji scoots over and Shikamaru invites the chibi Akamichi to lean back and gaze upwards with him. Chouji offers him some chips and Shikamaru asks if he'd be interested in working together from now on.

Chouji pops the red pill in his mouth as Jiroubou delivers a crushing palm strike. Chouji dodges and suddenly appears behind him, clad with blue butterfly wings. Now 100 times stronger, Chouji seeks his revenge - for eating the last chip. For calling him a worthless pawn. And worse, for insulting Shikamaru. With all the chakra building in his left hand, he slams his palm into Jiroubou's abdomen.

Jiroubou's seal recedes and Chouji falls backwards, still feeling the effects of the third pill. Happy that he won, he reaches for his forehead protector and staggers into the forest. A butterfly catches his eye, and wearily, he staggers after it, until he is lead to the tree where his teammates left the first of their markings. Hurry and come, 'tebayo. Everyone's waiting for you.

The happy moments flash before Chouji's eyes - his dad predicting he'd meet Shikamaru. Their team, Ino-Shika-Chouji. Always going for the last potato chip. He smiles as he tells his father he now has lots of friends. Unable to keep going from the pain, Chouji slumps down the side of the tree, letting go of his forehead protector.

Up ahead, Shikamaru sees a butterfly and watches it as it passes. Naruto asks what's wrong. He replies Nothing.

Naruto Episode 113: At Full Power! Burn Chouji!

Chouji bursts through the clay prison wall and frees the Konoha team as Jiroubou's walls crumble behind them. Neji byakugans to learn that the other three and Sasuke are long gone. Naruto and Kiba recklessly attack the remaining Sound nin, but soon learn he's not easy to take. He smacks the ground using Earth Barrier: Raging Wave! and a tidal wave of earth rushes at the boys. Chouji uses Meatball Dance to stop the attack. When the smoke clears, the Konoha boys are gone.

Shikamaru divides the group into two. One group (Shikamaru and Naruto) will stay and fight Jiroubou while the other (Neji, Kiba, and Chouji) will follow Sasuke.

Jiroubou impatiently scans the area for the boys. He soon finds them and the battle resumes. Shikamaru tries to use Shadow Bind, but Jiroubou won't fall for that again and smashes the ground to escape the lingering attack. He then disappears and reappears behind them holding a massive boulder. Doton Doryo Dango: Earth Seal Mud and Jiroubou tosses the massive hunk of earth at the Konoha team, who are easily able to dodge it. Jiroubou then reaches through the earth, grabs Shikamaru, and mocks their loser of a leader. Enraged, Chouji saves him with Meatball dance and declares that this guy is his.

Chouji distributes soldier pills to the rest of his teammates and assures Shikamaru he brought his own special soldier pills. He then commands everyone to head after Sasuke and pops the green pill. Confident in Chouji's abilities, Shikamaru assures him they will return for him, and the four head off leaving the Sound nin to Chouji.

As Shikamaru passes out the soldier pills, Neji asks about Chouji's special medicine. Shikamaru explains that he brought secret medicine from the Akemichi clan. Each of the three pills contains hidden powers, though they aren't without side effects. As Chouji struggles with the pain from the green pill, Shikamaru begs him not to take the red one.

Hoping to finish Jiroubou off quickly, Chouji plans his final attack. He forms seals for Baika no Jutsu and embeds kunai in his massive body. The meatball with spikes rolls towards Jiroubou, who uses Doroku Gaeshi: Earth Wall Land Flip to open a trap door in front of him. Chouji rolls right passed and into Jiroubou, piercing his body with the kunai.

Akamaru senses the monster's power and wonders if it's possible that chouji can even beat Jiroubou. Neji admits that since they don't know anything about the Sound Four, it's possible that Chouji has no chance.

Jiroubou goes to level 2 cursed seal and pounds Chouji out of his meatball technique. He then proceeds to pound the heck out of Chouji, who falls into despair. Everyone always thought he was virtually useless. And Jiroubou plays into his mentality, criticizing his incompetent leader for even bringing him along in the first place.

Meanwhile, Shikamaru explains that they were risking their lives for this mission, though even if some do die, they still might not accomplish their task of reaching Sasuke. He has confidence that Chouji can hold his own. Kiba thinks Chouji is the weakest of the bunch but was trying to prove his worth by staying behind.

As Jiroubou punches Chouji hard in the face, he remembers Shikamaru's confidence in him. He pulls another pill. Shikamaru believes in him and that's why he left this battle to him.

Shikamaru counters Kiba's accusations. Chouji is strong. And after taking the yellow pill, Chouji is renewed with a massive flow of chakra and uses Bubun Baika no Jutsu! Partial Multi-size

Naruto Episode 112: Member Dispute? Shikamaru's Group's Critical Moment

The Sound Four soon trap the Konoha Five and Shikamaru tries to negotiate. Kidoumaru uses his web to pull Kiba, Naruto, and Chouji from their hiding place giving Shikamaru time to trap the arachno nin in his Shadow Bind. Sakon wastes no time knocking Shikamaru out of it while Jiroubou uses Donton Keikkai Doroudoumu: Earth barrier: Clay Prison to enclose the boys in a clay dome.

The boys immediately try to break out of their mud prison. Kiba uses Tsuuga: Piercing Fang to drill a hole through the wall, but the hole quickly closes and the wall regenerates. Neji then byakugans for insight and learns that Jiroubou is absorbing their chakra.

After a few moments, Kiba gives Akamaru a soldier pill and the dog uses Gijyu Ninpo: Beast Morph. Together, the Kiba/Akamaru beast transformation attacks the wall repeatedly, but their efforts are futile. Naruto attempts Rasengan, but can't concentrate enough chakra in the chakra-eating dome. Shikamaru then tries to reason with Jiroubou. If he lets them out, they won't pursue Sasuke. Jiroubou refuses to believe they'd betray Konoha over this. Shikamaru then asks for his own freedom. Jiroubou mocks the Konoha boys - that their leader is a loser who would think only of his own well being. People like that deserve to die.

Engaged, Chouji tells the bickering Konoha boys to let Shikamaru do his thing, while Naruto and Kiba angrily demand to know what Shikamaru has in store. Chouji munches away one a bag of chips to power up while Shikamaru asks Neji to use his Byakugan on the wall behind Chouji and Neji. He then asks Kiba to hit the wall with his Tsuuga attack while Neji scans for the wall's weakest point. He was able to pinpoint the spot furthest from the enemy by talking to him. Chouji powers up and uses his Baika no Jutsu (Multi-size technique) attack to break through the wall. The barrier then crumbles before them.

Naruto Episode 111: Konoha's Five Ninja + One! In Impregnable Formation! Part 2

Sakon explains that Sasuke must take an enhancement pill to power his seal to level 2. However, in order to control Level 2, his body must grow accustomed to the seal or it will consume him and he'll die. The Sound Four assure him that they can prevent the side effects associated with the pill. Instead of dying, he'll fall into a coma. When he emerges from the procedure, he'll be just as powerful as them. Sasuke pops the pill into his mouth and collapses. The Sound nin then place his limp body into a barrel and seal it with Shikokumujin (Four Seals of the Dark Mist). Sakon adds an additional seal, Fuukoku houin (Dark seal).

Four Konoha jounin are returning from a mission when they sense the Sound Four. Raido and Genma leave Shi*une and Iwashi to confront the Sound nins. A battle ensures.

When Genma and Raido don't return, Shi*une decides to go check on her teammates as Naruto and co. chase Sasuke. Kiba catches the scent of blood nearby as Shi*une and Iwashi find Genma and Raido lying badly hurt. Shi*une heals the wounded jounin while Iwashi contemplates going after the Sound nins. Genma warns him not to.

Kiba then catches the scent of the Four and Sasuke and Shikamaru decides to follow them rather than stop at the battle area to collect information. He tells the boys not to let their guard down. If there was a battle, the Sound Four probably have traps set up.

Sure enough, they soon see a few explosive notes creating a barrier. If a person was to enter the field, they would explode.

Back in Konoha, Lee looks up at the long staircase below the Hokage carvings and prepares to train. Tsunade stops him before he gets far and tells him that his body needs rest to recover. If he overexerts himself now, he won't heal. She then gives him medicine and sends him away.

As the boys cautiously make their way through the barrage of traps the Sound nins set, Naruto almost triggers a wire. Shikamaru Shadow Binds just in time, but he and Neji deduce that their targets must be resting nearby. Sure enough, Neji Byakugans and sees them up ahead.

The Sound Four rest after using their Level 2 curse. Shikamaru commands the boys to split into two groups, while Neji tries to check on the status of Sasuke. He can't see through the barrel but suspects Sasuke is still alive. Suddenly, Sakon hurls a kunai at them and the explosion tag ignites.

Naruto Episode 110: Konohas Five Ninja + One! In Impregnable Formation! Part 1

Recap flashback showing the Sound Four. To Sakura trying to stop Sasuke from leaving the village. To Sasuke knocking her unconscious and leaving her on a park bench.

Bright and early the next morning, Tsunade's guards, Izumo and Kotetsu, spot Sakura sleeping on the park bench. When they calmly try to wake her, the previous night's events come flooding back and she starts screaming for Sasuke and weeping.

The guards barge into Tsunade's office and report the troubling news: Sasuke has left the village. Tsunade immediately suspects Orochimaru and asks them to bring Shikamaru to her.

The Fifth's guards knock on Shikamaru's door as his family is settling down to breakfast. Soon, he reports to Tsunade to learn that Sasuke's gone missing nin and is headed towards Sound Village by invitation of Orochimaru. As Chuunin, Shikamaru's first mission is to bring Sasuke back. However, there is a high probability that Orochimaru's men are guarding the Uchiha boy. Sensing danger, he implores Tsunade to only assign Chuunin and Jounin to this mission. She assures him that she would if she could, but almost all the Jounin are out on missions except the ones needed here. He has 30 minutes to collect as many talented Genin as possible… including Naruto.

Naruto answers the door sleepily but quickly perks up when he hears about the mission. The two are soon off to find Chouji, who emerges after Shikamaru and Naruo snack on a bag of potato chips. Shino is off on a mission with his dad, but Kiba is ready to go.

Neji is chatting with Lee when Shikamaru and co. explain the bad news. Lee is disappointed that he can't help, but Neji tells him to do what he must. Lee hopples away, vowing to train more.

The four genin gather around Shikamaru, who plans the group's strategy. They will start on offense. The formation will be as follows: Kiba in the front because he knows the geography of Fire country well and has a keen sense of smell. Shikamaru is next so he can see what's going on and signal orders to those behind. Next is Naruto, who can offer aid in both directions. Chouji will be the base because he's the most physically powerful. And finally Neji will be last so he can scout the rear with his Byakugan.

After the formation is settled, Shikamaru gives the group a pep talk. He admits that he doesn't have a deep attachment to Sasuke, but he is one of Konoha's shinobi. Because of that, they will risk their lives to save him.

Just as the boys are ready to leave, Sakura stops them. Shikamaru refuses to let her join. She breaks into tears as she begs Naruto to bring Sasuke back. Naruto gives Sakura the nice guy pose and assures her that he will definitely bring their teammate back.

As the Konoha team leaves the village, the Sound Four explain to Sasuke that he must die once.

Naruto Episode 109: The Sound Temptation

The Sound Four soon overwhelm Sasuke. Even his Lion Kick Combo seems to do no damage. Meanwhile, Naruto treats Sakura to a bowl of ramen. He tries to engage her in conversation, but her thoughts keep coming back to Sasuke. She then reveal to Naruto that Orochimaru bit Sasuke back at the Chuunin forest exam and that was the origin of Sasuke's cursed seal. Kakashi assured her everything would be ok, but when they fought Gaara, Sasuke's scar reappeared. He had the same intense look both times. Naruto explains his experience fighting Orochimaru with the other two Sannin, but guarantees that Sasuke wouldn't accept such an invitation.

Sakon holds the Uchiha boy up by one foot and explains that if he remains in Konoha, he will always remain weak. However, if he comes with them, Orochimaru will give him power. His seal activates and invades his body. They inform him that they haven't come to take him by force. He must choose to come with them. The seal spreads throughout the left side of his body, but Sakon allows his own cursed seal to become visible. Sasuke isn't the only one Orochimaru favors. However, there are consequences to using the seal. The more he uses it, the deeper it will affect his body. When it consumes him, it will consume his soul forever. He must give up something to gain something in return. They then remind him that Itachi is waiting and disappear.

Sasuke returns home one last time. He turns the picture of himself with Kakashi, Naruto, and Sakura on its face and leaves. Meanwhile, Sakura decides to walk home alone from the ramen shop. She detours to the village entrance and catches Sasuke as he's about to leave. He tells her she should leave.

Sakura then begins her diatribe about Sasuke leaving. Why must he do this? He tells her to stop meddling. She cries that he always acts like he hates her. Back when they were genin, they stood at this spot. She mentioned how he never got yelled at by his parents, and he became angry that she could think such petty things. Everything started on that day so long ago. Sasuke doesn't remember. She then reminisces about the bell test and the missions they've accomplished. She tells him that revenge won't make anyone happy. He assures her that he knows that. But he is different from them. He must pursue revenge. She asks if he's lonely. If he leaves, she too will be lonely. He tells her that from this point, they will follow different paths.

She then tells him that she loves him and will do anything she can to make him happy if only he will stay with her. Or, if he chooses to leave, she will come with him. He turns and tells her she's still annoying. Sensing she's lost, she threatens to scream. In the blink of an eye, Sasuke is behind her, and before she can defend herself, he knocks her out and leaves her on a bench.

When Sasuke meets up with the Sound Four, they've decided he is their new leader.

Naruto Episode 108: The Invisible Crack

Sakura jumps between the two dueling boys as the Sound Four head into the outskirts of Konoha. Suddenly, Kakashi appears and grabs the hands of each of the boys, redirecting their blows into two nearby water towers. Water gushes from Sasuke's blow, but only trickles from the tower Naruto hit.

Kakashi recognizes Rasengan and then reprimands Sasuke for using Chidori carelessly. Why must he always prove his superiority? Sasuke doesn't feel like sitting through another of his sensei's lectures and back flips over the fence to see the back of the water towers. Naruto's Rasengan blew away the entire back of his water tower! Sasuke can't believe how powerful Naruto has become so quickly.

Kakashi focuses his attentions on Jiraiya. Rasengan could have killed Sasuke. Jiraiya says Sasuke's Chidori could have done equal damage, though he didn't think Naruto would try it on a friend. Kakashi explains that Naruto and Sasuke's relationship is a lot like Jiraiya's old relationship with Orochimaru. Naruto wants Sasuke to recognize him while Sasuke has taken notice of Naruto's incredible progress recently and feels like he's becoming overshadowed. Sasuke lives to avenge his family, yet if he recognizes how powerful Naruto has become, he negates himself. Kakashi then leaves Naruto in Jiraiya's hands. He assures Sakura things will be ok and heads off after Sasuke.

Sasuke heads to a quiet spot where he can be alone with his thoughts. He remembers getting his ass thoroughly kicked by his brother and wonders why he hasn't been improving. Soon, Kakashi shows up in lecture mode and ties his genin to a tree so he can't escape. He then explains that he's seen a lot of people who live for revenge. All have only ended up suffering. If Sasuke does get his revenge, he will only feel more hatred. Sasuke then asks how Kakashi would feel if he killed the person most important to him. Kakashi reminds him that he no longer has anyone important. They've died long ago. He's lived through bad times and knows what it feels like to love the people close to you, but now, they have Sakura and Naruto. He was given Chidori to protect them, not hurt them or seek revenge.

The three genin lose themselves in thoughts. Sakura remembers all the happy moments she shared with her teammates while Naruto reminisces about how he and Sasuke have always been friendly rivals. As Sasuke is weighing his friendship with his teammates against his quest for revenge, the Sound Four make their presence known.

Meanwhile, Kabuto asks Orochimaru if all four Sound nin were necessary to retrieve Sasuke. He doesn't think Sasuke stands a chance. Orochimaru laughs. That's why Sasuke will seek him.

The Sound Four - Sakon of Seimon (west gate), Tayuya of Hokumon (north gate) Kidoumaru of Toumon (east gate), and Jiroubou of Nanmon (south gate) - engage Sasuke in battle.
