Every December, without fail. (Well maybe it is a fail.)
The last AC only just gets released, it's still full of bugs, I'm still not ready for another identical game & already they're announcing the next one. I remember this happening when AC3 was released & again with Black Flag a year ago. This series is not innovative enough for an annual release schedule.
Also Ubisoft needs to learn to fix their games properly before trying to create hype for the next one.
There are so many games with male protagonists so sometimes I like to play as female just for a change. I played Mass Effect 2 first on console & played as a male character, after I switched to PC gaming I went back & played the whole trilogy as femshep. I actually think that series of games was a lot more interesting with a strong female protagonist than when I played as male.
With Dragon Age: Inquisition I kind of like the idea of playing unlikely characters so my first playthrough is an Elf 2-handed warrior. He's skinny & small but he packs a punch. For my second playthrough I've already created a female Qunari mage. She towers above everyone which is quite cool.
DA: Inquisition already has plenty of strong female characters, sexism doesn't really seem to be much of a thing in Thedas. I'm encountering plenty of racism & mistrust as an Elf though so that's fun. I played as a Dalish Elf in Origins as well. There's not nearly as much racism as in the Witcher games going on but it's a good subversive take on real world racism.
Want new games? Too bad, they're full of bugs & won't work. Don't worry, here's Halo, The Last Of Us, Tomb Raider, GTA V, Dark Souls 2 & more... all with slightly better graphics than before! They still won't run at 1080P 60fps, but hey! Next Gen!
Maybe it's the childlike cartoonish character models, maybe it's the fact that everything is so small & fast I can't see what's going on on the screen. Maybe I was born to old for this. I have a friend who's a Nintendo fan & I'm sure I'll jump in for a game to give it a go but I've tried Smash Bros or some other clone in the past & it's really not my thing.
I get that other people like stuff that I don't. I'm OK with that. I still don't get what makes this a 9. I don't like to get hung up on numerical scores but there needs to be some justification for a high score like that. How is the balancing? Is there a good range of characters? Does poor online multiplayer really not matter that much?
I was kinda the same going the the Keep. I was like, what?! My Grey Warden died? He must have 'cause I remember making Alistair marry that girl he didn't like. I was sure I made some different decisions to what pulled through for DA2 as well.
Anyway, I think I'm happy with my world state or whatever they call it. Much less happy with the real world state. Why do EA make me wait several days after it comes out in the US just because I am in a different region?
@locknuts84 I know that statement has been going round a lot lately (Borderlands Pre-Sequel, Saints Row 4) but I don't think that applies here. While all the same features remain, it looks like they've done a lot of work on them. There's a whole new map, new story, new guns, elephants. This is no Blood Dragon.
That said, I'm not rushing out to get it. I think Dragon Age Inquisition will occupy my time for now. Just be fair to what the game is.
@Princess_Rectum @bbq_R0ADK1LL Nintendo fanboys are funny. I'm sure that Mario Kart 8 has some fancy 3D tracks that are better than Mario 64 & Luigi's Mansion is completely different to Super Mario Bros.
The irony is that Miyamoto is complaining that other companies are just bringing out the same IP year after year (COD, AC etc.) when Nintendo are using the same characters in every game & also making games with multiple sequels.
He is correct in saying that the gaming industry is stuck in a bit of a rut at the moment. The focus is on iteration rather than innovation because publishers are scared to lose money on anything. My difference of opinion is that Nintendo is an exception. The latest COD probably has more guns than the first one & the latest Smash Bros probably has more characters. The latest FIFA has better graphics than the first & the latest Far Cry has elephants. That's no evidence that anyone is taking risks. Nintendo, like any other publisher will have the odd new IP but they are notorious for bringing out the same characters over & over again. Even Hyrule Warriors is a direct rip-off of Dynasty Warriors with Link slotted in. That's not innovation.
My apologies for copy-pasting this to others who replied to me.
