I've never found an MMO that's actually gripped me before. Too many of them sacrificed combat gameplay, sacrificed graphical fidelity, sacrificed meaningful progression for the sake of being online. Warframe changed all this.
I didn't think I would like the game at first and I put off trying it for a long time but around 18 months ago, I finally gave it a try and I was hooked. Well over 1,100 hours in, sometimes I take breaks from the game, but it always keeps me coming back.
The complexity makes it hard to learn, but that's also what gives the game it's longevity. Warframe has one of the best communities out there, full of people willing to help. I really recommend the Warframe PC Facebook group.
@videogameninja: Maybe when they overhaul the new player experience, it will be "10-worthy". I love the game, but it's fair criticism that it can be hard to learn and the tools to do so don't exist within the game.
Won't somebody think of the poor folks at EA? Think of the bruises they have to deal with from diving into their money pools.
How can they be the bad guys? They're just taking something people love, like soccer and combining it with something else people love, like gambling. Everyone loves gambling, right? If you want to buy something you want, you can just go to any store, EA gives you surprise mechanics! Wouldn't you rather have the thrill of getting something amazing after the last 20 times of getting mundane items or duplicates of things you already have?
People say they want a hobby, but what they really want is an addiction, something to dedicate their life and all their income to. Think of all the time and money they spend on R&D to find the best ways to hook players in. EA are the good guys here!
@pappafost: I absolutely understand what you're saying but the problem is, most people don't want to spend their time & money on mediocre games.
There are so many games coming out these days, not to mention the back catalogue many gamers haven't got round to playing yet. Why spend your precious time & money on a game that is merely "fair", when there are so many games that are really good? Unfortunately a C (or even a B) just doesn't cut it when so many A or A+ exist. Particularly when those games are the same price.
Of course that's all subjective, everyone has their own preferences, but you get my point? People don't want to waste their time on something they might only enjoy a bit when they could be playing something they'll enjoy a lot.
Epic is trying to play hardball but it doesn't look like anyone here is buying the good-guy act.
Too many people have this weird loyalty to Steam. Sure, they offer a few good features, but they've been sitting on their yannys for a while. Alternatives like GOG Galaxy have come up but people are still hesitant to but even a single game off their platform of choice if they can possibly avoid it.
@Yams1980: The AI just cheats on harder difficulties, it's the same way they've always done it. I don't even like playing Civ higher than the default because I hate it when units or resources appear out of nowhere to give the AI a boost, rather than real tactics.
@jimmie488: I don't know if Kallie is a "kid" but I agree with you. Way too many story & enemy type spoilers & not enough on mechanics. There was a lot on how she felt (or didn't feel) but that's difficult to make a purchase decision on.
