Most games will let you choose from a range of pre-set settings or automatically choose them based on your hardware if you don't want to ever look at a settings menu. However if you do want to tweak settings, you have the choice. Consoles give you no choice.
I get that Gamespot has expanded to include movie stuff but they don't need it in this show. Trying to tell how good a movie will be from trailers is stupid. Trailers these days are mostly hype & spoilers. If people want to consume that rubbish then there are plenty of sources for that already.
A good move. Andromeda got a lot of negative press around launch but they've done a tonne of work to fix bugs & it does actually have some hours of fun to offer if you forget your expectations for a second.
Sure, it doesn't live up to the Mass Effect legacy as well as it could but it's not a bad game. If you enjoy open world games then it's worth giving it a try.
@Gaming-Planet: Yeah, they would be better off doing an article on why these don't matter & can't be compared across different manufacturers & generations.
@hawkensha: Measuring GPUs running on the same architecture can provide some relative comparisons but even comparing this AMD generation to the last purely on FLOPs is fairly useless.
@dev-raid1: It means you can play the game at a range of settings depending on your hardware - depending on your budget. You can prioritise framerate or visual fidelity or max out both if you're willing to pay for it.
I have a friend who played games like Far Cry 3 with low settings on his aging laptop. Because he had graphics options, he was still able to do it. If it was up to Nintendo, they'd say buy the new console or don't play at all.
Having options as a consumer isn't being spoiled, it's the way everything should be. If you want to support the oligopoly that benefits the giant corporations instead of the consumers, that's up to you but don't call people spoiled just because they like to have a few more options.
@doodoflife: They didn't even mention Sony. It's basically just repeating what Digital Foundry reported so there's not really an opportunity for them to be biased.
Take the tinfoil hat off dude, there are plenty of biased opinions out there but this article is just reporting the facts.
