I hope they're working on that AI. I saw a lot of dudes standing around, waiting to get an arrow in the face.

@khanwashere: Sure, turn based games like Civ don't really need high framerates but they still feel smoother. Almost anything else is objectively better at 60fps than 30. A solid 30 is probably better than wildly varying with an average of 60 but that's not what I'm talking about.

Higher framerates give more responsive feedback to the player, making just about any kind of game feel better. For people who really insist they can't tell or don't care, an option between better graphics or better framerates is always good but for those of us with standards, no game should ever release that can't be played at 60fps or higher.

Good. 60fps minimum should be every dev's standard.

Racing games are pretty easy to run, there's not a lot of moving parts which is why there's always a shiny new racer at every console launch to show off the new graphics. Going open world could introduce a few more challenges but closed tracks means a pretty limited range of assets to hold in memory.

There's a "making of" video in the game that shows how they consulted with mental health experts & even people who have experienced psychosis. Some of them say in the video that it's a really authentic representation.

I see a lot of commenters saying this is a "bad game" (maybe a little less politely). Mostly people who haven't played it. I think Hellblade is definitely not a game for everybody. It takes risks. It does something new & interesting that hasn't been done to this extent in other games. Hellblade definitely isn't a perfect game but for the most part it's great at doing what it tries to do. People need to realise that there are a variety of different gamers who enjoy different things. Some like X-Com, some like Battlefield, some like Super Meat Boy. Multi-player shooters aren't my jam but I don't go around saying Overwatch is a bad game just because it doesn't suit my tastes.

@defiler: It's a great 8 hour game but that's just an opinion, I guess.

This game is not for everyone but it's very good at what it tries to do. I'd rather have a unique experience like this than another generic shooter. Don't conflate not liking a game with it not being good.

@Gencic: Depends what you're into. Battlefield 1 looks like a 2/10 for me. Overwatch could maybe be a 4.

Hellblade took a bunch of risks, made something new & different, focused on story & gave new insight into what it might be like to experience psychosis. That's not for everyone but it's a great game for those who are open to that sort of thing.

@facts23: It's definitely not for everyone. It does do a great job at doing certain things which makes it a great experience for gamers like me who like dark story focused games. Being *not something you enjoy* & being *a bad game* are two entirely different things.

Just finished playing - great game.

I really hope more devs move towards the mid-tier model. AAA games can be good but they're forced to try & please everyone because so much money went into it they need to try to broaden their audience, often at the cost of doing something extremely well for a smaller audience. Hellblade isn't for everyone but it does an amazing job at a few things; it doesn't need to be competition for COD or Overwatch or Assassin's Creed. We'll still have the Battlefields & Grand Theft Autos, those things aren't disappearing, but maybe we'll have a few decent games to play in between the release schedule of the giants in the industry. Too many good studios have gone under because they can't live up to the expectations of big publishers.

Too often I find that indie games just don't grab me. Whether it's the basic low-budget art style or laser focus on one mechanic with very little else going on, they just don't make me want to play them. I'm really hoping more indie devs will see this & take the risk to make something a little higher budget, a little more ambitious. Advanced game engines are more accessible these days, plenty of indie devs have cut their teeth on Babby's First Retro Inspired Metroidvania Rogue-lite Platformer, Steam is filled with them. Perhaps now it's a good time for them to try something unique & different, tackle some bigger challenges, work with graphics that don't limit what they can portray on screen & make a game that nobody else has thought of yet.

@thedreaming88: So many people were all like, "not my Dante" just because of his hair colour. Ridiculous.

I've been waiting for this. FO4 has been on sale a few times but the Season Pass has been more expensive than the base game!

I'm a Fallout fan since 1&2 but Bethesda games are horrible on launch & usually need a few patches & about a hundred mods to have the best experience so now might finally be the time to pick it up.
