@jyml8582: Judging from all the reviews, it's a strategic narrative driven game. The value in the gameplay comes from the shroud of mystery in Kojima's wild and odd storytelling and engagement in strategically traversing treacherous terrain. I can see why it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea, a lot of AAA gaming titles nowadays are run and gun, fast paced action which don't make you think about things such as cargo and walking. But if strategic narrative type games are what you're into, I can see you liking this.

@openmind23: Well, not that reviews could ever be purely objective but from a general criteria of what "most" consider fun and engaging gameplay, having to redo hours of progress over and over again could classify perfectly as "frustrating" and "tedious" as a detractor to your average gamer. But if thankless grind with real risk is the readers thing, the review will serve as promo for the game rather than a negative review.

Games journalists are ironically the same dense folk who wonder why games are politicized by mass media in the aftermath of every spree shooting...

@subspecies: Can we be real for a moment? I can understand that there is a community that wants to defend against mob hate, ignorance and trolling for a game that has done a lot to be better rather than dying in obscurity. That said, when are we going to start holding companies like Bethesda accountable for these nasty practices? Bethesda doesn't deserve to be held in any esteem for essentially now delivering on the product fans paid for over 8 months ago. Fan jousting is a beaming example of why the AAA gaming industry follows the trend of half finished, rushed out the door releases. It's because negativity and bad press "goes away" and they get to control the narrative again once the spotlight shines elsewhere. They aren't receiving the message that we want finished products at release because we aren’t doing a good job at delivering that message. Stop asking for content patches and fixes, start asking for refunds, play games that are currently worth your time rather than games that promise to be worth your investment in time.

@owizeisme1: I'll double down and say that the absence of Sony at E3 this year may have something to do with it. Google stadia is a serious competitor. What if Microsoft and Sony reveal on sunday that the partnership will be for more than just cloud gaming services? A single console competitor to both the Stadia and the Switch?

Conspiracy time! What if the big E3 surprise is the retirement if the xbox brand and that they are working with Sony for a solid dual investment single console competitor. This hygiene line is repurposed branding. Think about it, I mean a month ago they announced a partnership with Sony for online cloud services.

@arithonuk: Note that in my above comment, I mentioned that gaming is a trigger, meaning it can lead into symptoms of addiction in some individuals. There's an obesity epidemic worldwide which has been in most cases caused by an unhealthy psychological relationship with food, so essentially it is possible to become overly attached with that slice of pizza. You could argue that it's not so much the game as it is the inner workings that trigger the reward and pleasure centers in our brains, explaining why "beating a campaign" or "reaching an achievement or objective" usually often gets followed up with an instant removal. Publishers have even been actively trying at exploiting that to keep playing longer than they normally would, expansions, randomized looting mechanisms etc..

I think the thing to realize in this debate is that triggers and episodes are fickle by nature, I'm sure many of us on this site have had a "1 more game" moment, even during periods becoming increasingly withdrawn from others during those trigger days or weeks.

I can understand WHO'S reasoning somewhat, however its fundametally flawed. I'm no medical student, but If human health was really the priority here, the real name for this "disease" would be an all encompassing one with a name like "Acute Dopamine Stimulus Dissorder ADSD" or something. A dissorder that examines the brain's hyperactivity and inability to regulate itself when suffering dopamine dependance in some individuals. They could then effectively classify "triggers" in individuals who suffer from ADSD. Triggers like smoking, drinking, drugs, sex, sugar, foods, gambling, and activities that grant bursts of gratification like social media. Gaming is a trigger, and like all the triggers listed above, it's not something that affects everyone.

Calling gaming the disease and not calling addiction for what it truly is, they are arming politicians and pharmaceutical corporations with a platform to weaponize a harmless consumer hobby. ",Gaming disorder disease" implies that addiction is something that affects all gamers, ignorant would be putting it mildly.
