i have 2 hard drives,

1st hdd with 2 partitions: an xp partition and a backup partition that i keep all my documents on.

2nd hdd has 1 with vista installed.

lately i will be using the xp partition and after about 1 min it will crash and restart, as though you flipped the switch on the powerstrip off and back on.

very very rarely will this ever happen on my vista partition. but both use the backup partition located on #1.

the way i get it to stop is just opening the computer, moving power cables around or switching them (Basicly just screwing with stuff at this point) and it will be stable for about 3 days, then it starts the crashing again until i screw with it.

i hope my psu isn't dying, but it also might be a hdd. i recently bought it from newegg.

any ideas on what's causing it?

don't get a 2400. in fact, if your gonna get a new PC, get a cpu better than that. at least a 4400+ or a c2d.

i think you should be able to play hl2 on your laptop right now. maybe not on ENTIRELY high settings, but more than decently. i did it on my parents PC back when it came out and it had the same specs with only 512 ram. source engine runs really stable.

but if by half life 2 you are referring to episode 2, thats a different story. you're gonna want the newest.

doom 3 doesn't hav that high of specs any more, and it sucks anyway.

again, don't get a 2400, 8800 or wait for new ones. the 8800 has been the best for a year now, something is bound to come along, but maybe not until after christmas.

take the ethernet cable out of the back of your PC

plug it into your ps3.

i currently have the 7600gts and in my setup it runs the new hl2e2 and portal smoooooth, but im getting ready for crysis and assassin's creed and i am wondering: is the 7600gts good enough? or should i jump to a dx10 card (i hav vista and xp). i want to run both games on all high at 1440x900, but may run it higher on a 32" lcd occasionally.

what is the best card under $250? aren't any more coming out soon? and has the 2950 come out yet or is that still projected between aug and sep :P
