Well, I am not finding it to be too easy as some of the levels have taken me 30+ lives to beat (but then I've never been that great at video games). It does seem a little short though, and it doesn't really have the same flow as its NES predecessors, nor do I find it to be as immersive. One or two of the minigames is OK, but I don't find myself returning to any of them. Despite these shortcomings, I think it is one of the better games for the DS, especially if you grew up with the NES...

I'm not sure when the sequals will start to come out (keep in mind Lunar Knights is a fairly recent release). The Boktai games came out in 2003, 2004, and 2005 (the third was a Japan only release I think). If you have any of the Boktai games for GBA, you can insert them in the GBA slot while you are playing and it will power your solar station and give you full energy, life, or trance. Supposedly you can connect to one of the Japanese MegaMan games as well to access an extra boss fight...

I didn't hype Steel Horizon, but I was definitely interested in it from the initial announcement/previews. Luckily I didn't pre-order it...

OK, I'm
[QUOTE="bowling-name"]

DS Lite: (White, Pink, Black, whatever your g/f would prefer) $130

Screen Protectors: $7 - $10

Case: (This is more important if she is likely to play on-the-go; my favorite are the custom cases made by Debris): $10 - $40

There aren't really any other accessories that you NEED to have (the battery is not one you remove).

Do you have some idea of what your girlfriend likes as far as game type (puzzle/platformer/simulation/rpg/etc)? This would enable us to make better recommendations.

For what it's worth, my girlfriend likes Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, New Super Mario Brothers, and Meteos.

x_boyfriend

To be honest, she seems to like mini-games a lot.

She's been hooked on this game called Tumblebugs lately (one of those pc gamehouse / popcap kind of games), though I know she's been dying to play Nintendogs (she hasn't tried it herself), though I remember she had a blast with Brain Age (whatever the hell that is).

People seem to be recommending Animal Crossing quite a lot. What is it? I just looked up the GS review and I still don't get it. Sorry, I'm not too much of a console / handheld player. I suddenly feel really old.

She seems to hate games with a learn curve. She likes to pop it in her hands, and get right into the game. Don't think she'd last very long with an RPG. So repetetive gameplay might actually be okay, as long as it's addictive. hehe.

Did i mention she likes animals? She likes animals.

Does she like Bejeweled? If so, consider picking up Zoo Keeper. I agree with a lot of the other recommendations here, Brain Age (you already know she likes it), New Super Mario Bros or Super Princess Peach, Nintendogs, Meteos (the Disney version is a little easier at first), Mariokart, Animal Crossing, etc...

There are not really any other accessories that you NEED to have (the battery is not one you remove); although, if you get Animal Crossing (or Mario Kart if she is competitive) you will probably want to make sure you either have a WiFi router or the Nintendo USB wireless connector...

Perhaps the game is set several decades into the future, and the cost of living has continued to rise dramatically in those countries still affluent enough to afford theme parks? OK, maybe not...

I would like to see some action from the Professor Layton games, and Etrian Odyssey (beyond the first three trailers released on the Japanese blog), as well as video from Steel Horizon.

If you look at the breakdown of their scores, you start to see some trends for most DS games. For a game to score so highly it would have to have gameplay, graphics, sound design, and replay value (or reduced price), that are all remarkable for the platform. So far, you have a few games that scored a 10 in one or more of these categories, but at the expense of other categories (e.g. the graphics and sound of Advance Wars).

As others have written, the only thing I see on the horizon that has a chance is probably Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, but who knows how it will actually turn out.

Perhaps this is a little premature, considering Lost in Blue 2 is barely out now; but I noticed that one of the prizes of the "Get Lost in Fiji " story contest is that your name will appear in the credits of a future Lost in Blue game. So, does anyone know anything about this future game? Is it possible the franchise is going to show up on another platform (e.g. the Wii)?
