StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty: 2003-2010 (7 years)
Seems to me that you are wrong. The only thing that takes 2-3 years or less are franchised games where similar assets and code can be used. Every new IP takes far longer than their subsequent sequels.
@thegoodhustler: No it's more along the lines that Gamespot and IGN aren't getting marketing money from CIG so they aren't going to be as favorable to this game as something coming out of EA or Activision. The only revenue they get out of these articles are clicks and ads so they're going to report on the negative to get those clicks (subconscious or not).
@straightcur: Yup and those same people will come right back when the game releases and it's as good as what CIG is aiming for. Sure some won't out of spite but the majority will come back and at least try it out.
@deviltaz35: [citation needed] awww, that's right you don't have anything to backup your trollish arguments. Nice try though.
FYI, if you are going to try to play in the big troll leagues, you might want to pepper in some truth so it doesn't look like an obvious troll response. ;)
@jinzo9988: That would be correct if this studio had more indie aspirations (a lot smaller scope) but since this isn't the case, you are wrong. The average AAA game development time frame is between 7 to 8 years.
Publishers are the reason why the average consumer doesn't know that game development is very hard and takes a lot of time. Publishers announce games well within the game they're announcing development cycle so it appears that games take a shorter amount of time to make than what actual occurs in reality.
When I backed, I took great pains to understand exactly what I was getting into and I knew from day 1 that this project was going to take a long time so, IMHO, if the customer doesn't understand what they were buying into, it's their fault for getting in bed with something they do not understand.
And most backers don't care so long as the game is made. BTW, a ToS like that would never be held in court because it stomps on consumer protections and if CIG suddenly stops development on the game, there will be class-action law suites.
No uncomfortable fact for me, I personally don't care how long CIG develops this game so long as it's actively being developed and the have the money to continue development.
Before I knew what was in the season pass, I was super excited about playing this game but now that I know what's in it.....kinda don't want to play this game until all the DLC is released and integrated into the game. Don't want to have to play it again just to get the new stories...
